You mean the same feeling KT fans have during the midseason?
Bisu is going to have to pull a Bisu once again, and Fantasy better do a Bisu this time as well if we're going to get anywhere. If we have to relegate him to the B team again for losing to random Zergs... shit has officially hit the fan (pun intended). -_-

I was able to find this and that. I don't think anyone did that at the end of the season, although it would've been very nice.
The proleague draw took place about an hour ago. Coach Joo tweeted that the opening match is Team 8 against SKT and Team 8's second match is against KT on the Tuesday after that. For further details, wait for the release of the official schedule by Kespa.

If anyone wants help English casting I'd be down. Send me a PM, I'm pumped for this! Also, am working towards live streaming PL myself since I'm up at all those weird hours xD! Could also do restream of PL next day afternoons if that's something people would be interested in with English cast/ I'm sure sGs clan skype would love to analyze the games day after too with me.

3 days a week, so probably 2 games on Saturday. Every team plays 1 game a week I guess. So the days of 50+ games per team are gone. 5 rounds would mean 35 games, 6 rounds would mean 42. It looks like Bisu's record last season will be an all-time one.

In the current format, how often do teams' best players end up playing each other (setting aside ace games)? For example, do coaches often put their best player first?

Ok thanks. I knew MBC was closing down, but I hadn't heard if they were broadcasting proleague up until the shutdown date or not. Guess I'll never get to see that studio then T__T
Has KeSPA made any changes to the playoff format now that there are eight teams?
They should. 6 teams out of 8 into the playoffs would be hilarious. Instead of a race to the top it'd be a race to not get 2nd to last place (since we know ACE is gonna be last T_T). I think a logical adjustment would be 4 teams in the playoffs. 4th vs 3rd, then winner of that vs 2nd, then winner of that vs 1st in the finals.

Don't be to hasty. Ace has FBH, Iris, great, kal, and ggaemo. I think they are significantly better than soul, and have a legitimate shot to pass khan depending if kal and great can have rebounds similar to a lot of the other recent ace pickups.

Meh, I think I'll be missing out on a lot of live matches. The weekday ones will start only about an hour before I should start towards work, but maybe I can negotiate something. Getting up at 4 am on the weekend is, well, sometimes not great. Argh. I must per-se-vere! PROLEAGUE!

For years the ranking have been sorted in this order this:
won matches
game difference
won games
Admittedly, that leads to seemingly odd rankings if not all teams have played the same number of games.
Clarification of the official rules, from the korean KeSPA website would be nice. Until then I'll stick with the current order.
eeeee isnt it ALWAYS like that order? 1.won matches 2.loss matches ( point 2 is irrelevant WHEN teams have same ammount of games played (simple math)) 3.won games/score difference (depend on discipline)
dont know what was like before in PL but imo thats how it works.
anyway ur rankings dont match with official rankings so despite u know the mechanics of that or not u should change it
Team 8 could really use a boost right about now. Somebody's gotta get Sea into a winning mode or they'll never make it. They need to have at least a winning season to attract some sponsors.
With the old ace match and winners' league formats I thought SKT were the favourites, but I think CJ has the best overall team for the new format. They can legimitately put out five solid players for each match.
On December 27 2011 18:13 M2 wrote: Will there be something like playoffs at the end of the terms? Because its not writen as part of the format
Yes, there will be playoffs:
-8 teams will participate. In this post season, 4 top teams will go into playoffs with challenge style (previously used format I guess). Semi-PO and PO will be Best out of 3, while Finals will be only one match.
I'm not sure what 'challenge style' is exactly. At a guess I'd say: Semi-PO: rank 4 vs rank 3; PO: winner vs rank 2; final: winner vs rank 1. Pretty much like Winners League finals last season.
Seems like there's a believe that there's a floodgate of mirror this year. Here are some numbers:
So far, there's 102 games played. Of them, 42 are mirrors, making roughly 41% of games mirrors. In contrast, the 2010-2011 Season had 445 mirror games out of 1118 games total, which is about 40%. Go back another year to the 2009-2010 Season, there were 496 out of 1159 mirror games, which is about 42%. Go back one more year and we get 43.5%.
So I don't know what all the complaints are about.

I don't think that there is a flood of mirrors, but there is definitely a bit of racial imbalance thus far. Protosses in general are crushing Terrans hard currently, at 13-8 or 61.9% win rate, whereas Zerg is just barely ahead of Protoss at 12-11 ZvP, or 52.2%. Protoss is also seeing the most play in general.
A big part of this is just how weak Terran lineups have been in the post-restructuring age, with only a few S-class and top A-class Terran players. After Flash, Fantasy, BaBy, and Light, the quality of Terran players drops off precipitously, whereas Protoss and Zerg lineups seem much deeper (see: CJ Entus and Samsung KHAN).
EDIT: I'm not claiming this is a big problem; there's really no such thing as a perfectly balanced proleague or starleague of any sort. This season is actually probably more balanced than previous seasons (in 2009-2010, Zerg played 662 games compared to 555 for Protoss, which is quite significant considering the large sample set.)

That's a shame from my perspective. I was just getting used to watching the first one or two games during breakfast. It was fun to be pondering over the results during the day, before being able to watch the rest in the evening. Back to reading the news I guess.

From what I read, it looks like they switched the BWPL timeslot with the SFPL's to better market to each game's target audience. Starcraft is now mostly watched by those in their 20s, while Special Forces is watched by teens.

Defying predictions Air Force ACE finish in fifth place, and thereby in reach of a playoff spot.
Most teams are only seperated by a single win. It seems likely that the last two or even three playoff spots won't be decided until the very last day of play.
Against the odds, Team 8 finished last. It would appear as if their mid-round struggle has turned into a crisis.

Now that the game difference column actually matters in determining a playoff spot (since the teams are all so close), how will this change coaching decisions? Seems like as a coach you would have a greater incentive to stack your better players early, to close out matches faster and end the season with a cleaner record.
DES: It's currently time to be testing the new maps for next season and people are wondering how it looks for protoss. Bisu: (Sigh) It's doesn't look good. [T/N: I thought he wanted to do really next season and he tells us that the maps aren't in his favour o.o] They probably will balance it out but right now there are many maps with naturals that are hard to SimCity [T/N: Like python.. like 10 pylons....] and there aren't very many maps with open centers. There always seems to be some map building. In addition, there are many naturals with cliffs vulnerable to Terran and Zerg attacks. At this point there are only about 2 maps where Protoss is favoured. I'm really hoping for many changes.
Sure Bisu, if you say it... BUT why zergs sucks now?
with their win tonight putting them at 3-6 and 18-21 and Woongjin's loss last night putting them at 4-6 and 19-26, T8 only needs to win one more set to pull out of last place.

But as easy as you think. Since it's sorted by win rate, they would have to win 2 games in a row to get a 41% win rate, 5-7. One win will only give them 36% win rate.

Yeah, I thought ACE had played 11 matches and Team 8 only 10. Turns out that Team 8 would have to win their next match and ACE has to also lose their next match for Team 8 to pull out of last place. That's not impossible, though. Team 8 is certainly capable of beating Woongjin, and STX is resurging hard so they should beat ACE.
Ugh, I can't believe KT is on top after 2 rounds, I guess bo5 isn't that detrimental to their depth but I really thought CJ and Team8 would be doing better.

I was thinking about the effect of the format change the other day. There were a lot of predictions that KT would suffer from the lack of Ace Match, but I think those were wrong. Allow me to explain...
Last season KT were basically working like this: Flash and Stats give two wins. Then KT has four shots at getting to the Ace Match using their second string players. Finally Flash, and occasionally Stats, would show up to win the Ace Match. Flash and Stats managed a combined 6 - 3 in Ace Matches, including playoffs. But that's "only" 67%.
This season the Ace Match burden has been lifted. Flash and Stats have to practice one map, which increases their win chance. This season they are a combined 16 - 3 (84%), compared to last season's 61 - 33 (65%), discounting Winners League. That's quite scary. On top of that, once any of the second string players wins, KT wins the entire match. The chance for Flash or Stats to be sniped in the Ace Match has been removed completely.
In conclusion, I think that the removal of the Ace Match format didn't hurt KT much, but the shortening from Bo7 to Bo5 helped KT a lot. If I had to assess KT's chance depending on the format then it would look like this, from great to bad:
1) Bo5 + Ace Match = great for KT; able to win with just Flash and Stats, plus occasional help from others 2) Bo5 - Ace Match = good for KT; Flash and Stats can focus, 3 shots for the others to get one win 3) Bo7 + Ace Match = so - so for KT; 4 shots for the others to get it to Ace Match, then Flash brings home the bacon 4) Bo7 - Ace Match = bad for KT; need 50% win rate from the 2nd line, looks bad based on last season's results
At first, when hoping for ACE to not finish last, one would wish bad thoughts upon STX and Stars...
but now...CJ is sinking fast...
Also, KT has been spending more money than other teams in acquiring players. Even if they don't show up often in games, they still help the practice environment a lot.
Competition for the other two playoff spots remains fierce, mostly thanks to SK Telecom T1 and CJ Entus. Both teams have been struggling for form, finishing the round with 3 - 4 and 2 - 5 records respectively. Even Air Force ACE could theoretically still make it.
Team 8 has managed to catch up to the middle of the pack with a solid performance in Round 2.
In case t8 (4 games left) now wins 2 more games then cj (4 games) and stars (3 games) in has a chance, but it will be very close due to map score. SKT's mapscore is too good I think, and Stx's too bad. On the other hand t8 has only hard matches left, so they'll really have to step it up big times to stand a chance.
I would actually love to have KT end up on the 2nd place because they've fought with SKT in the finals for the past two seasons but a Bo3 between them would be more epic than those ^^.

I second that motion! That would be great.
Also, I think it might be time for a different team to win, like KHAN for example.

Depends on what you mean by secured. If you mean that KHAN is temporarily #1, then yes, they have "secured" #1 spot in the rankings.
BUT: if KHAN loses all of its games, KT loses to CJ, then SKT, Stars, KT and CJ win all their games, then KHAN could even lose their playoff spot if their games +/- differential is bad enough. Of course, that's a very unlikely scenario, but anything is still possible at this point.

Yongsan I'Park mall: the stadium is up on the top (I think it's the sixth) floor. It's directly above the metro stop Yongsan (용산) on the dark blue line. This is the clearest map I can find: Yongsan is pretty much smack in the middle. There are also a couple threads somewhere on TL with more detailed directions.

You know what makes this season much more competitive than the past seasons? Well many things but among other reasons, there's the fact that because each season is so short with MUCH less games, there's no room for players to slump. If you slump for like a month, that's like 1/3 of the season! o.o
