We already know how good the ingame clock has been to players of all levels and modes.
We can build on that to appeal to more modern gamers, BW can use among other things, some QoL touchups that do not touch core gameplay.
- Worker auto-gather rally (just replicates a simple right-click to a mineral patch)
- Cancelling egg should return to larva
- If multiple building selection (MBS) is allowed, there should be a few other changes to balance it, namely:
- There should be a max number of buildings (maybe 3 or 4?)
- Production queues for Protoss and Terran should be capped at 3 (or maybe even 2)
- Upgrade buildings are excluded.
- There should be a max number of buildings (maybe 3 or 4?)
- Hold position command for workers, unburrowed lurkers, units with no attack.
- Some mechanic to make muta/sair/wraith/valk stacking not feel like a hack like give a dedicated for-stacking-hold-position.
- I had 18 unit selection for zerglings in my mind but pro Zerg users already massacre Protoss without it so maybe no. (It should only apply when selecting purely zerglings.)
- AOE marker when selecting location to cast special abilities like in WarCraft/MOBAs
- Lines marking the air distance to the rally spot.
- Building completion, upgrade, morphing percentage or maybe seconds until completion.
Yes, there is an argument that the player who paid attention to these little details better should have an edge but I personally prefer more attention elsewhere and the possibility of less instances of wrist injuries for our non-Protoss buddies.
I haven't really played modern RTS games so these are only ones I thought of for now.
