(Yes, Pluto is on there)
SCHNAIL website
- Existing clients will auto-update to include this, but you can
download the installer from the links below as well. (or from the website)
- This version disables Battle.net functionality, so it cannot be easily used to put bots on the ladder. We remain consistently against anyone using it that way.
- The client works pretty much the same way as before - you just press Play.
A couple of new features:
- Map selection has been enhanced. Now there is a search bar and a filter. You might not see SCR maps for a while, as bot authors need to update their compatibility manually.
- Your hotkeys for SC:R are used from your existing installation. Only the embedded 1.16 version needs to use the SCHNAIL hotkeys tab.
- There is a speed setting for Remastered in the settings tab, and windowed mode.
- Developer mode! Added some features, including SC:R support, custom games with your bot, or you can play against it on a custom map. There is a lot more that can be added here of course - currently only Melee mode games are supported.
- Updated tutorial on the website: https://schnail.com/#/userguide
FAQs, and some notes:
- SCHNAIL is still in beta. Bugs can and will happen - keep reporting them!
- Performance. Some bots (Pluto being the prime example) consume a lot of resources. That, and two SCR instances can slow down older PCs.
- HD graphics: You need to log in to Battle.net to enable it (once a month or so) , SCHNAIL does not circumvent this.
- The auto-menu for SC:R can delay a few seconds on the main screen - don't worry too much about it, just wait a bit. Same can apply to bots joining or the game starting.
- 1.16 support is effectively finished. It is left bundled with SCHNAIL for now (way faster for development, for example), but it will not get any more features.
- Only BWAPI 4.4 bots can play on SC:R. This is a deliberate decision.
- Some people from China reported slow downloads (usually using a VPN/proxy). SCHNAIL is fully local, after downloading the bots,
only the replay submissions, ranked mode, and logins need network connectivity. For the initial downloads, a gaming proxy is probably better turned off.
Discussion thread
If you want to report a bug:
- Describe exactly what happened
- Does it happen with every bot consistently?
- Share the contents of <schnail install folder>\logs\console.log and schnail.log files.
