The first week of proper 5.0.17 competition began in the weekly cups, while modded StarCraft II competitions continued to hold strong for the time being. October 11-12: Patch Clash S1: Special #1
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/patchesspecial1.png)
Played on Patches' Versus Mod
The popular Patches' Mod hosted one of its biggest tournaments yet, putting up $1500 for competitors in the Patch Clash Season 1 Special tournament. SHIN came out on top in a tournament filled with high level players, riding his winners' bracket advantage to a 4-3 win over Clem in the finals (VOD (Day 2, Polish)).
The finals saw Clem fall behind 1-3 while playing as Terran, prompting a mid-series switch to Protoss where he looked to take advantage of the mod's powerful Tachyon-Shield-Blink Stalkers. The meta-defining unit helped Clem claw back to a 3-3 tie, sending the two finalists to a deciding bout on Anomaly Found. SHIN found a solution for triple-upgrade Stalkers just in time, ceding some ground on defense while backdooring with Mutalisks. SHIN struck a series-winning balance between defense and counterattacking, as his Mutalisks caused devastating economic damage while he suffered only superficial losses back at home.

October 13: WardiTV Mondays #108
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/wardimon108.png)
Played on 5.0.17
WardiTV Mondays kicked off the 5.0.17 era for the weekly cups, with ByuN taking the first high-level cup in the new patch. A temporary move to Tuesday meant the competition wasn't particularly fierce for ByuN, who claimed his victory with a 3-1 win over Gerald in the finals (VOD).
Game one of the finals suggested the dark days may have returned for Terran, with Gerald beating ByuN down with the old 'get storm fast and snowball to an economic victory' strategy. However, ByuN centered himself and took the next three games straight, winning with a combination of strong late-game macro and well-timed pushes.

October 13: PiGosaur Cup #103
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/pig103.png)
Played on 5.0.17
5.0.17 seemed to have remotivated old cup staples, as PiGosaur Cup saw longtime rivals Clem and MaxPax meet in their first weekly cup finals since June (in the live version of SC2). MaxPax took a 3-2 win this time around, but plenty more clashes are sure to come in the resumed rivalry (VOD).
In terms of in-game action, it felt like the two players picked up right where they had left off, with the series featuring exciting macro games, a decisive Blink timing from MaxPax, and, of course, a fast GG from Clem after getting his SCV line wiped by a backdoor Zealot warp-in.

October 14: 2026 Kung Fu Cup Weekly #27
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/KFC2026_27.png)
Played on 5.0.17
Clem rebounded from his PiGosaur Cup runner-up finish in the next day's Kung Fu Cup, taking down an all-Zerg list of opponents to take first place (VOD).
That's not to say victory came easily for Clem, as he started the finals down 0-2 against Solar. The first game was a somewhat surprising victory for Solar, as he recovered from early economic damage—typically a game-ender against Clem—to eventually triumph in a macro game. Then, Solar quickly added on another win, hitting Clem with an unexpected fast Roach-Ravager attack.
However, Clem locked to take a reverse sweep in the next three games, winning a late-game battle of attrition in game three, snaking Hellions in for a fatal early-game runby in game four, and finally battle-meching his way to victory in game five.

![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/bamsweekly4.png)
Played on SHIN Balance Patch
Modded StarCraft II still looks to be going strong for now, with the SHIN balance patch getting two cups on the week. The first tournament, the BamsPatch Weekly #4, went to ByuN, who took care of business against a series of outmatched opponents (VOD could not be found).

October 17: Korean StarCraft League #97
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/KSL92.png)
Played on 5.0.17
After several weeks of being played on Patches' Mod during the 5.0.16 era, KSL switched back to the live version of StarCraft II with the release of 5.0.17. It would have been shocking if the king of the 5.0.15 patch, herO, didn't get a cup win after a patch full of reverts, and he did exactly that by taking a 3-1 win against Classic in the finals (VOD).
Interestingly enough, the finals games weren't the cheesefests we often saw between Classic and herO in 5.0.15, and we actually saw more hidden expansions than proxy-Robos throughout the series. While you can't count on it being a long-term trend just yet, it was refreshing to see Korea's two best Protosses get to two bases in all of their games.

October 18: Sparking Tuna Cup #151
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/sparklingtuna151.png)
Played on SHIN Balance Patch
The Sparkling Tuna Cup saw ByuN finally laid low in the SHIN Balance mod, with herO knocking him off his perch in a 3-0 finals sweep. In the previous week's final, ByuN had won 3-2 thanks to herO's unfamiliarity with the mod's reworked Cyclone, but this time around herO adapted accordingly to take a one-sided victory (VOD).
