Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
OK, so I'm not sure where this fits, but I have begun wondering when the next TSL may happen? Also will you be able to compete in it from the same server as the rest of the competition, because I ave heard that cross server latency issues make playing from Korea a hassle. Also I think his quote has to do with what we in the Americas call double talk or extra words only added to a sentence to confuse someone.
Well this will be another super exciting GSL final. Just kidding wake me up when the GSTL starts it's pretty much over for me now.
"But Probe, TvT is so strategic it's like chess!" Yeah, you know I love chess. I love chicken Florentine and sex too but if I have to play, eat or watch it every day I'm not going to have any interest in it after a month.

hey guys maybe you guys have seen this, but i actually hadn't, its an old post and old news to many, but damn.... Pro Players charged!!! :O, i never knew starcraft could get so serious... check this out!!
never mind, that was a teamliquid original post..but still..I thought we played to be honest and only be brutal online or when on the battle field...Phew!!
and just for the record, is there any chance that any of the games designers from blizzard are Starcraft masters or are they just not going to risk there reputation as good game makers but shitty players..Just asking :p
Koreans tend to be more informed than the average foreigner, and playxp reports that korean fans consider protoss to be the weakest race. The statistics agree.
Question: Why does protoss not have a 1 supply unit?

First of all you could just edit your post instead of triple posting lol. Yeah that scandal was a while ago and it was a big deal since savior (one of the greatest sc1 player ever) was involved. It really hurt the scene.
Edit: Also, david kim, the guy in charge of balancing the game was really good in the beta and i think he is a gm in NA. So yes, there are very good players @ blizzard

Wasn't the Xel'Naga tower on Xel'Naga Fortress destructible in the original version of the map? Afterwards they changed it to automatically disappear after X minutes and I think that's still the case.

Sandro- yeah no games for the longest break in the GSL in months Xelus- Because it's made of paper mâché. With the upgrade it can barely outrun stimmed marines so there's something. darkness- (thread where your question is discussed) the difference is around 10 minerals by 40 seconds. That compounds. For someone in gold league it may not matter but a master or a pro it can make the game if it's a mirror match.
Hey I got a question and I don't feel it deserves a thread of it's own.
What ascii characters are valid for name change in SC2 BNET? I know that there's this symbol many clans use as their tag, like the millennium clan. do you know about any other ascii character you can put in ur name?
I got a idea for a protoss harass unit, since Blizzard told they are getting one for HotS. Imagine if you merge two-three DT's you get a DT with a blink, kind of Zerathul in campaign. However I feel maybe not all spells would be useful but maybe you could have 1-2 max per game and they do a little more damage then a normal DT. Thoughts?

Honestly it would come way too late (too far up in the tech tree). DTs are already pretty nice harassment units but I think Protoss needs something that can be fielded quicker and doesn't rely on lack of detection. I would absolutely love to have a Reaper-esque unit instead of blinking DTs =)
You know what I would love? Vultures. Banelings are great but Vultures. Units that have immense skill caps. People say Zerg has no micro units. I disagree on the scope. SC2 has such a low micro ceiling. I want harder units that make for spectacular games and sports.
I just played a PvT which reminded me heavily of the MLG with rain's nuke on naniwa! Ok, it wasnt a game winner for him .. far from it but it was completely cloaked in that .. by coincidence .. I attacked the very second he sent his nuke,
so all I heard was the barrage of siege tank fire etc! all in all i lost a base worth of probes and assumed it was down to a drop I missed while i was microing. it was only when I checked the replay I saw!
also checking the replay I also found that it was virtually impossible to hear the nuke announcement going off over the battle.
is it just me or is hearing announcements in game a hella more importent then the proportional volume of guns being fired?
any way of changing the volumes of announcements and stuff that people know of ? I already have music and ambient off!
On September 07 2011 16:21 Probe1 wrote: Xelus- Because it's made of paper mâché. With the upgrade it can barely outrun stimmed marines so there's something.
According to liquipedia, the warp prism moves at the same speed as a stimmed marine and hydralisks on creep after the gravitic drive upgrade. The only units it can't outrun are phoenixes and mutalisks.
Here's my question: I think space-controlling should be used more in SC2, something like what Spider Mines, Lurkers, and siege tanks did in sc1. What tactics can you use to control regions on the map in SC2, if there are any? Obviously siege tanks in SC2 can do this to some extent, so this use of the siege tank could be excluded.
I have a question that really doesnt deserve a thread but I would like some opinions on it. If you are a racepicker like me and do these small tournaments, my opponents always get really pissed when I dont tell them what race I will be playing and just say "well it also depends on the map" Even if I point out that its really hard to play more than one race they get really mad quite often( this happened the last 3 times, actually) Do you guys think it can be considered BM or should I just tell them to quit whining :D
Are Ravens gonna be good? are they the terran infestor O_o??1? IMO i don't think so the hunter seeker missile takes too much energy PDD drone is really good though. Just bring back the science vessel from BW blizzard or make the Raven a little more expensive give it better skills.

WOW. This is why popular tournaments in korea and internationally need to have bigger prize pools. If some one offered you 6000$ to drop games you would do especially at MLG where the prize pool is so low.

low micro ceiling for Zerg maybe, try playing terran in master you have to micro insanely if you want to survive and the smallest mistake costs you the victory from the A-moving zerg player.

If the tournament allows it they should be complaining to the organizers. If I was running a tourney though you'd have to put down your race when you sign up and you'd be DQ if you played something else.
I think playing random in tourneys is kind of suspect too. Supposing one player or the other can come up with an excuse for the game to need to be restarted, it could get really complicated.

I've considered switching to second shift just to solve this conundrum
Okay. I'm sure this is an old question but I just recently started watching SC2 after years of being a BW fan.Ireally want to get into SC2 due to all the foreigner involvement that you don't see anymore in the latter years of BW. But watching the game seems really lacking for a very simple reason.
Clumped armies
I hate it. I loathe it. I feel like everything that's bad with SC2 from a spectator's perspective comes from clumped armies. Note I say spectator's perspective, since I enjoy playing the game just fine. But watching the game is a whole different story.
Clumped armies make 200 vs 200 army clashes look like one blob vs another blob. It makes AOE attacks devastating so that entire armies die in a couple of seconds from AOE spells or attacks. It also make it hard to notice details because details get destroyed when you're watching blobs of armies.
So why can't Blizzard make armies a little more spread out. I mean, I saw a recent trailer of HOTS and the engagement was "spread out" to make things look more epic. So why is the game so different? It's hard to be epic when a swarm is not a swarm but just a ball that dies to a couple of tank splashes.

I
Heard this a million times before, but we can't just go away from the clumping system, the whole game is balanced around it. The HotS trailer just took alot of effort, spreading all the units beforehand etc.
On September 10 2011 21:20 ApexKillaR wrote: your fault if you clump your army.
Great post. No really.
It's not about him clumping, it's about the loss of epic battles. Games in BW rarely came till 200/200, but because the units spread so well the battles looked way more epic and micro was way more interesting.
Hey guys, I was wondering, is it worth it to get a Taiwanese Account for the Korean server, for someone who wants to get a lot better at the game, but is still currently in Platnium, should I just focus on getting up to Masters+ in NA before I consider getting a Korean account, or would joining the Korean server help me even now, thanks~

Until you're top masters, there is no difference between korean or NA servers. Only difference would be that you will be silver/gold there.

Today I have played ~8 tosses, 5 of those games were on Shakuras, TDA or Antiga. I'm used to every toss and his mother doing FFE on this map, but for some reason none of them actually did this, is this a metagame shift or just coincidence. If it's a metagame shift, why did it shift?
On September 11 2011 02:34 Aiurr wrote: If I want to constantly make marines, tanks and SCVs, how many factories / barracks should I have at 1 base / 2 bases / 3 bases ?
On 2 bases, you should have 7 rax, 2 factories, and 1 starport, (no addons on rax or starport, tech labs on factories) if you have full saturation, you should be able to produce 7 marines, 2 tanks, and a medivac non-stop.
How important is it to learn specific match ups, timings and all that jazz? I play random and I am in gold league, I mostly just stuff around doing stupid tactics. The only time I really lose is some early push or If im doing something totally stupid. If I want to get up to diamond do I really need to learn serious strategies, build orders instead of winging every game? Or is diamond bad enough that I can just power through by having better macro and relying on cheap tricks?
I thought about phrasing this delicately but I don't want to give you the wrong impression. Without build orders you're unlikely to make it past platinum. Maybe you do get up to diamond. But you won't survive.
Why do people assume there is only one way to play, then when they lose to a different style they call you bad because of it? Some guy just raged on me and called me an idiot because I opened 1 base roach in zvz when he opened tons of speedlings with a faster expansion... i just chilled on one base, got more drones and a few roaches then moved out with a fastish +1 on my roaches and took my expansion and had full saturation when it popped.
Apparently I am an idiot and a bad player, even though he lost.

I think "WHY on EARTH did I lose to this AWFUL build" was probably going through your opponent's mind when they left the game, he/she knew that that game should have been a free win, and they just messed up.
Hah I had a zvz just like that the other day. The gist of it was I took an early lead when he lost track of some of the zerglings of the early game back and forth. They weren't lost, just morphing in the corner of his base
So I had a lead in every aspect of the game and drew it to late game for fun and practice. After 23 minutes of sniping hidden expansions, beating him on drones, upgrades, infestor counts, anything you could want- I move in for the kill and he puts up a final bad engagement in a last futile defense. Then, instead of gg he offers me this caveat. "it's funny because you're a terrible player" You Win! (random guy is not online)
What I'm getting at here is people raging at a loss, soaked in a puddle of adrenalin and frustration, will say any negative thing they can think of about you. Usually the first thing that comes to mind of course is- You're fucking terrible.

Have you tried producing.. sentries? Without a replay idk what to say. Mass ling is pretty bad all you have to do is produce a zealot off one gateway and a sentry off a second while getting up a stargate.
Just ff the ramp and konga line zealot after zealot.

The option you're looking for is Menu -> Options -> Sound -> Untick the "Error Sounds" option.
That disables anything played in response to you trying to do something you can't.

I think it could be the bug Excal mentioned in the ladder guide: Master leaguers get more weekly bonus points than others, and currently there is a visual bug to display bonus as if you were master league. The bug is visual, restart should fix it..Here is the the thread from Excal:
Oh I thought it was a serious game. Then I saw 3:14:18. Then I read the chat log.
I've lost 1000+ units and still won before just torturing an opponent with the power of infinite zerglings. Gj though
Your opponent had 52 average apm. I'm pretty sure corpses move faster than that. I turned it off after x8 through the first 49 minutes because I assume it's 2 more hours of that.
I've noticed that in a lot of PvT matches on Xel'Naga Caverns, the terran goes for the 1-1-1 very frequently. Is it safe to just assume from the beginning that a Terran will just go for the 1-1-1, and prepare for it?
Hmm, So i've been kinda lacking in playing since season 1 tbh, and just started play more ladder again, and it hit me, the bonuspool really dont build up that fast any more, is that just me or is there something too it? feels like half speed or even less if i compare too season one :o
I always hear that improving your macro is the most important thing, if you want get promoted to higher leagues. Assuming that you constantly build workers: How low must your "average unspent minerals" be in order to call your macro "decent"?
I would say that is race-dependet, a Zerg could float more minerals since they sometimes depend on hard techswitches, but maby download replays of "decent" players and watch the "average unspent minerals" after the replays, you should have your awnser there, if there is one

I didnt, and I dont think tasteless deserves a documentary made after him. He doesnt even bother with the game anymore and just rides the wave of artosis's influence since he still actively takes part in all aspects of the game.
Is there any way to play in windowed mode when you have two screens connected? I've never used two monitors until recently so I'm not so savy when it comes to it. The reason I ask is when I play with sc2 windowed mode I can't move the game image in the direction my second screen is unless i go slow.
So here's a thought, instead of destructible rocks how about things like destructible terrain I.E. A bridge you could walk over that had health and when destroyed you couldn't walk over it

I use windowed fullscreen as the option, though if you mean fullscreen spanning across two monitors I really dont know T.T
I discovered a nice little trick to place a lot of Terran buildings simultaneously in an elegant fashion. This video describes it:
Any feedback is greatly appreciated! As the video description says, it's obviously nothing genius or groundbreaking but it is kinda neat (which is why I'm not making a new thread for it but posting here instead). I know my voice sucks, it's partly due to the crappy headset microphone I use. I have a much better set-up but no mic stand... -.-
I don't get it. That's.. how I've placed building since .. beta. Is there some trick to it that I'm missing or are you just saying how efficient it is?
It's not about the placing buildings part, obviously you box your SCVs and then go B-B-left click-B-B-left click and so on. It's about the shift-click returning part. If you just shift-right click back to minerals you make your building SCVs return to minerals and not be idle after they did their job but you'll also screw up your mineral line as displayed in the video. My method presents a nice and easy way to always have all your SCVs that are building the number of structures return to minerals reliably without the risk of messing up your economy by sending all your other, uninvolved, workers to a single mineral patch.

Oh wow! This is actually really good! I didn't know you could just hit Q to select the building.

Is the problem that if you move your mouse toward the second monitor then the mouse ignores SC2's boundaries and will actually go onto the second monitor instead? That happens to me sometimes. To fix it I recommend playing in windowed full screen and just alt tabbing out and then back into the game. I've gotten this method to work while playing in true full screen but it's more inconsistent.

It's really good, thanks for posting! I would suggest you make an entirely new thread for this in the strategy section, because I think it would help a lot more people if you did that.

Okay I understand now. Definitely a efficient method, gj
In other news, that mutalisks in ZvZ guide I promised a few weeks ago keeps getting delayed because I never have good replays. I keep either ending games early or getting such a vast lead that the mutalisks didn't even matter. For some reason NA zergs forgot how to early game ZvZ.

You can use the shift key to speed up the process even further. Instead of doing
I live in USA and have NA - English version of SC2 and so I bought EU - Polish version.
I did some research and found some help on this that says "Now this is the most important step of the install: Remember to choose a different folder to install Starcraft 2. I named my new folder "Starcraft TW" instead of "Starcraft II". After that click the bottom right icon to continue. If you forget to do this step the starcraft installation will overwrite your existing starcraft directory and corrupt your SEA/NA/EU installation. So CHANGE the installation folder!!!"

bb click bb click bb click
for each rax you can actually just do
shift bb click click click
Absolutely, although there are subtle differences between the two methods of placing the buildings you describe. bb click bb click bb click makes the SCVs move to put down the buildings immediately while the shift bb click click click method queues the construction up and there will be a 1-3 second delay before an SCV actually starts moving to make the building as their first action in their queue will still be to finish gathering or returning resources.
Second, with bb click bb click bb click you can, much more easily, make different building types. Imagine you are playing TvZ, you were busy microing a marine-tank based push away from home and your money shot up to 1.2k minerals. In that situation you want to add a couple rax maybe, a second factory, two gases at your natural, a starport, two e-bays and two or three depots. So you box your workers at the nearest base and go bb click vf click br click br click vs click be click be click and so on.
The shift bb click click click method uses a lot less actions of course but in a real game scenario like the one I mentioned above it's a lot less elegant. It is better if you really want to add a sh*tton of buildings of the same type (like 10 rax for example) - so it's more effective -, but in an actual game it's much more likely that you want to make a lot of different buildings at the same time and for that I still very much prefer bb click bb click bb click - which is more flexible.

Has anyone encountered this problem?
Not 100% sure but it could be because of the SC2 save and replay files in My Documents. Rename your current NA Server version and install. Then just juggle the name Starcraft II between the 2 folders depending on which region you want to play.

Yeah, thish happened to me when I installed my NA version. Basically, it's overwriting files that are to do with the game, but aren't actually the game itself, as far as I know. As a result, double clicking on a replay file will ALWAYS open it up in the version you installed last, as far as I know. But other than that, I think it functions just fine as simply having two versions of the game on your PC.

That was sort of the problem, I had windowed fullscreen and it acted like it went over to the second screen so when I move past the edge it stopped moving, even though I couldn't see the pointer on the left monitor. But I tried it again and now it works as it suppose to. Must be some form of glitch.
As Fruitdealer now beat Sase, the former champion stays in the GSL. Fruitdealer won the first open season and was part of every GSL ever since. I think one should admit he does deliver quite consistent play. Even though he is not Code-S level right now, he maintains his Code-A status at least.
Protoss shields, particularly the shield upgrade, needs to be better.
Very few people upgrade Protoss plasma shields until the other two forge upgrade are finished, and for good reason. Shield upgrades do not increase unit survivability as much as armor upgrade for any Protoss unit since units tend to have more life than shields and the base 1 armor that the shield does not have. Shield upgrades are also more expensive as well, cutting into your fighting unit funds. Shields are also a bit of a liability in PvT due to the ghost's EMP ability.
There are two variants on the way that I think shields should be buffed. 1. Shield upgrades will also decrease "out of combat wait time" for shield to start recharging and increase recharge rate. 2. Shield upgrades are reduced in cost or researches quicker than other similar upgrades. Obviously, not all of these should go into effect, but having some combination of them would be useful. The first method will get Protoss' shields back up and running quicker allowing them to get back in the battle at a relative full strength. This is very helpful - especially late game - where Protoss units will be able to recharge their shields at alarming rates. The second method of decreasing resource/time cost opens up strategic and stylistic options for the Protoss player. Reducing cost would make shield upgrades a more ideal choice for players that choose both ground and air units. Reducing upgrade time would create the option for Protoss players to quickly upgrade shields significantly ahead the opponent's weapon upgrades.
Personally, I would like shield upgrades to look something like this: Level 1: 100m 100g 120s Level 2: 200m 200g 150s Level 3: 300m 300g 180s Recharge Delay 10s / 9s / 8s / 7s Recharge Speed 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5

Im just a sad panda right now Maybe some russian can fin something about this on a russian side? thanks! your work is appreciated

I didn't find a very relevant thread active recently, but I just wanted to say that I really hope they add SC1 music to SC2. Keep the current if you like, but some options to have either or both would be really lovely. I say this because I heard literally 9 seconds of SC1 terran on husky's youtube and got excited without at first knowing why. Yes this is a really old subject, but HotS really could use better music for Z and P (I like terran in both equally, so want both^^).
Lesson of the day: Do not feedback before you storm. The scenario: 6 Templar, 3 of them above 75 energy, 3 of them at ~60 energy.
What happens when you feedback medivacs, then storm? You risk using feedback with the templars above 75 energy, putting them at 25, disabling you from storming altogether.
In this case, it used ALL THREE storm-capable templar for feedback. Fun times.

I used to have that problem a lot... still have it sometimes. I figured out that it happens when I'm giving waypont commands to units and then chronoboosting or building probes (because I accidentally hold the shift key down when I press my Nexus hotkey, adding those units to the Nexus key).
This error is actually how I learned to use the shift key to hotkey. Before if I wanted to add some units to 4, I would press 4, shift select the units I wanted to add, then ctrl+4. Once I started using the shift key intentionally, I sort of magically stopped using it by accident :D

Alright, I'm very confused now. Exactly how many scvs make for ideal mineral line saturation only? I've been told that it's 16 scvs per mineral line, but I've always thought it was 24 (3 for each patch, even close ones). So what is it? 16? 20? 24?

The ideal mining situation is 2 on each mineral patch (for normal bases that's 2*8 = 16) and 3 on each gas (that's 3*2 = 6) 16 + 6 is 22 workers per base.
Thus, when you double click on a worker in your mineral field you should have 20 (2 rows + 4) workers selected -- 2 will be hidden in the gas.

That's a pretty broad question, man. Seems like you're asking how to play the game. If you're in a siege war then there are many ways of solving it, like dropping in his main, nuking his siege line to unsiege him, tanking with thors or marauders etc. You just need to play and figure it out, really.
My friend told me about how as zerg transferring workers doesn't work, but I have a counter argument. Unless one has over 16 drones working on minerals, my point is transferring is inefficient. This is due to the fact that with 16 drones on 1 base, each drone is doing their maximum part. In fact, transferring any of those drones loses mining time, which loses mining time. Yes, one has to rally new drones to the natural instead of their main, but minerals are the most important NOW as you can get more drones earlier creating an overall higher economy. Just wondering, does this argument make sense?

In short, it depends on how quickly an expo you're talking about. Faster expo, and if you're feeling safe, then not transferring is optimal. Later expo, the better it is to rally workers to the natural.

My buddy had a good rule of thumb. Ctrl click your harvesters, and if you've got 3 full rows, you're doing good. It's a good and quick guesstimation of your saturation.
That's why I wrote 24 instead of the 100% optimal number. It's much easier for my eyes to count three rows when I"m only devoting .6th of a second to checking each mineral line.
pPingu unless the staff member is also a player (Jinro) I don't think they need a liquipedia entry.
guys i really want to know what iwould have to do to become a pro at starcraft. i practice all the time i can but how would i get a pro team to notice and take me on board?
Participate in tournaments. Unless you're at least in Masters then you still need to learn how to play at a high level. A high Master on NA/EU is an amateur. A Grandmaster.. a gifted amateur or a pro practicing.
Travin that doesn't seem so much to me as something blizzard "needs" to do.. as something you would like map makers to include. However I think its a silly idea, all you have to do is click the geysers and check. Which are almost always 1 geyser per mineral line.
justiceknight: considering its completely identical to Zealot Chef, I'd say they mistakenly added it in.

When it comes down to it, it's just another minor thing in the game that has update potential, along with litterally hundreds of other things, even the interface and the client itself. It's good for suggesting on the official forums, I guess, but otherwise it's pretty much useless to get your hopes up.

Pick Terran, play everyday, if you lose analyse your replays and maybe get a idol or something and replicate/copy/study his playstyle.

I agree. Big purple smoke, and the containers should be HUGE.
I didn't know where to put this, so I guess this is as good a place as any.
Disclaimer: I am at work, and have not been able to thoroughly test this. It happened to me in 3 different ladder games. I could very well be wrong.
I think Banelings are behaving differently in 1.4. Specifically noticed this during baneling busts.
Scenario:
Typical 14/14 bust vs Terran. 6 banelings and 16 or so lings outside of wall. 1 ling has scouted ramp, sees reactor+2 depots. A few marines by the wall. select banes, right-click on reactor to send them to their death. Select zerglings to follow in right after bust.
In 1.3 and before, the banes will go directly to the reactor. Marines shooting them will not deter the little martyrs from their target.
In 1.4, the banelings start up the ramp and start getting shot by the marines. They decide to change targets to the marines and ignore the reactor. This has lead to crappy busts and even outright failures.
My guess (if this is real) is that with the change in the patch notes of:
Baneling's Attack Structure ability is now a toggle to Enable/Disable Attack Structure. The toggle will determine whether structures are valid targets for auto-attack. This change fixes an issue which caused Banelings to prioritize buildings over hostile units.
My guess is that adding a step to set the toggle on banelings will probably fix this for the basic bust... but I'm guessing this also affects the "I'm charging into a base with 3 control groups of units, and want banes hitting this, this and this" sort of moments. No idea how it interacts with bunkers, which is often the first designated target for the banes in a muta/roach/bane/ling attack.
I was hoping that someone could test this and confirm that I am wrong and simply misclicked, or that banes are now going to disobey orders regularly. Thanks.
A guy a know asked me if I knew any casting talent in the local area, he's putting together a large lan event in the new year and wants the finals/semi-finals on the big screen w/ a caster, etc.
I have no clue, but if anyone knows someone within one or two hundred kilometers of: Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada let me know so I can pass it along!

thanks, but i think i am fairly good at protoss and i am having some success playing that race, would HuK be a good role model? and any idea of what sort of tornamounts i should enter? i am in the bronze league at the momment, mainly cause most people cheese you with 40 cannons at the front of your base, and just wondered what tornamounts you would recomened me entering?
also thanks to probe1 and HDream for their replys, any feedback from them is also appreciated
Most pros you see on stream have been playing RTS games for years. Though that is the norm, there are plenty of people who have become professional after SC2 alone. What does it take?
LOADS of practice. 10 hour days of practice is easy. Try 16. When you're not playing you're studying. Being a pro is really a profession, it's hard work!
There are tournaments that cater to bronze and silver players. Check Starcraft 2 Tournaments for announcements. I don't see any at the moment but there is usually something to join.
For now I would highly reccommend you watch Day9 on stream. He has been a great help to countless people at your level get better.
As well, reading the strategy forum (Make sure to read the guidelines on how to post before posting there!) will help you get out of bronze.
But mainly? Practice, practice practice. Play 10 games a day. Watch the replays and see what the people that beat you do. Copy them. Evolve your game, get Practice Partners to help you have consistent practice instead of having to defend against one thing you've never seen before one game and a new thing you haven't seen before the next game.

I wouldn't worry about tournaments before you're plat/diamond +. Once you're that high you will know which tournaments to enter. Make sure to stay in touch with the community, on team liquid and places like reddit.com/starcraft. You can also watch streams on http://en.justin.tv/directory/gaming, and see the live streams here on tl -->>>. Start practising one build. Learn it on the itnernet or develop it yourself. It can be four gate, 2 base timing, dt rush or anything. Just get really good at it, define it. Then when you're silver or maybe gold, start practising other things. Read up about saturation on your bases, when to expand, what to counter what (which you can see by hitting f12 and going on certain races). And don't get de-motivated! Practise a lot, ask for help, possibly through the in-game chat called Teamliquid (in one word).
ok thanks guys i will find a partner train and get into the plat/diamond league and just do tornamounts from then on, also i watch day9 atm he is brilliant lol, wouldnt be where i am without him
thanks muchly Andy
also what age do you recomend i start trying to be pro at cause i am 15 atm?

It all boils down to passion and interest for the game, your talent and practise, as well as the time you are willing to invest. Pokebunny is one of the best players in the world and he's only 15 (16 now?). Spanishiwa is 17.
lol because blizzard was being a huge douchebag. Also (real answer) because Huk was laddering on TLOs account, not using it for a tournament. However, teams let players use the accounts on ladder when they aren't being used for tournaments sooo see the first line.

In terms of finding a pro to watch, I'd recommend figuring out what style you like playing, and finding a streamer that does it well. For example, I play Terran, but I like a more bio-mech style. There's tons of Terran streamers out there, like Jinro, Demuslim, Slayers_Dragon, Trimaster, TLO, etc. Since I like bio-based play more, I tend to watch Demuslim and Select more than Jinro and Trimaster (Dragon is purely for lulz mostly). This'll take time to figure out, of course, but it's definitely something to keep in mind.
So I see prooss doing really well in GSTL using double forge and getting to 3-3 Collosus ultra fast. I expect this style to remain strong for quite awhile.
What I wanna know is why did this style suddenly fall from grace? Toss were winning games doing this several GSL seasons ago and then all of a sudden they just stopped using it. Was there some metagame shift that started to crush this? I know it wasn't 1/1/1 from T because that wasn't popular while the 2 forges was

I swear on my damn life, 80 % of my match-ups on ladder are vs protoss. and 80 % of them use some version of that build. My guess is people figured it out how to counter it long ago.
Could someone list all the Blizzard maps that don't allow certain spawn positions? The only one I'm aware of is no close ground positions on Shakuras. I luckily heard this from a friend; I've searched Liquipedia and the Blizzard forums but found nothing on the topic.

That's the only one I can think of. Some other maps like MLG versions of shattered/meta don't allow close spawns but those aren't the ladder/Blizzard versions.
I am a high gold level zerg player and all my friends tell me I have the skill to be platinum and a lot say I am even better than them it is just my decision making that has me up in knots. And I totally agree. From what I see I finish a lot of games doing really good its just that what I see I dont respond correctly, a lot of times I lose my entire army doing incredibly stupid things. I started playing on KR servers and got to gold there as well but there it is even easier to do incredibly stupid things. Sometimes I see massss zerglings and instead of doing banelings or something I go "oh I can just make more roaches" it is almost instantly after the game that I nkow what I could have done. But I just go into next game messing up again. How can I overcome this decision barrier? It plays a role in how I micro/ When to drone or army/ when to expand/ what units to make ect. I just feel like i have the skill and mechanics down I just dont know what to do in tough decisions. I dont rage or anything so thats good but I just make the dumbest mistakes. I just played literally 3 games in a row where I was ahead and my army could easily kill his but I made a stupid decision like "lets set army here instead of at home" or something. It also seems in a lot of games if the oponent waited even 5 seconds longer I would have won but since he came out at just the wrong time I lost.

I play about 30 games a day on weekends and fridays so "play more" doesnt really help me at all. I am looking for some nice short and sweet guide on what to look out for or a link to a recource or something. I keep having this bad decision making problem and I dont know where it come from
for example if I see someone take a fast expo instead of expanding myself like I know I should I just get this idea in my head that if I do an all in I will win and 90% of the time it doesnt work but I just do it anyways.

Wtf did you expect? An essay? You're just in gold league, one of the things you need to work on is decision making. What am I supposed to tell you, to be smart? Not be stupid? Just play more, learn what to do and when to do it. What is the problem? Honestly, what kind of resource or guide did you expect?

Its just that I have had this problem forever and while my skill level is going up my decision making has yet to improve, i was asking if there was a way to somehow practice decision making just like one might practice macro or something, I wanted to find a way to improve the decision making and start winning again. It seems that for almost ever the only reason I win a game is if I happen to outmacro my opponent and get lucky on unit choice, ie. mass roach or something and happen to kill the protoss because i have so many bases, even though he went for immortals or something.

See pros playing and actively think about what decisions they're making in what situations. That's what I do, and I'm awesome.
Here's a random thought. During this weeks FXO's king of the hill, marinking won 5 games, and when they were announcing his last opponent my mind immediately latched onto it. "And now, Marinekings Next opponent is MVP" This is what I heard and my heart just went YAY! then they finished it. MVP's keen. And being a bit of an MVP fanboy, my heart sank.
Anyone else think those two names are way too similiar? and also, think it would be hysterical if the player left IM and joined MVP to become MVP_MVP? :D
Ok so I wanted to know if there was a way to change the server of starcraft 2 without having two separate clients. I have searched the team liquid forums and google, and the results come up with ways for the SC2 beta days. Is there anything recent? I have tried this guide and it didnt work even after following the instructions. And yes i do have a NA and an EU account. Suggestions? Thanks in advanced!

Stick to one strat in every matchup, grind out mistakes one by one. Sounds like you don't actually understand how the game works out and just play without understanding anything. I find the best way to learn is to stick with something you copied from a good player and keep playing like that untill you understand what is going on, this is true for all games you wanna get good at.
Being European, I will argue that koreans should only be drafted into foreign leagues as much as they allow foreign players to go there (which is barely)

Care to elaborate? While I dont really fancy the idea of playing ST_Rainbow in the second round of the playhem daily as was the case yesterday, I believe opportunities to play koreans are a good thing for players. Yes it sucks that koreans tend to smack their foreign counterparts around, but you get better by playing better opponents.
Consider IEM semi's idra vs puma. It was evident from that series that idra and puma had played many games together, and thats why idra was able to compete. (meta game aside the point remains true).
And with more and more foreigners playing in Korea as Koreans play amongst us, the skill gap that was so evident in broodwar is beginning to fill.

omg I'm jealous.
I think it would have taken me 30 seconds of fumbling to get my first 6 Probes to mine once I realize I'm in the game with Rainbow.
I recently saw a post of a COD player whose 4 man team was awarded 400k $ for winning a championship. In the interwiew he says he plays around 4 hours per day. Is it me, or it's just a bunch of amateurs, that if some korean team came with SC2 like practice schedules, their ass would be kicked to the moon in a years practice?
SC2 players here scracthing their butts to blood to win dwarfish prizes and these guys with less than half of practice time earn gigant sums of money. Fair?

It's not really about fairness, it's about how much revenue the ads will generate. There are undoubtedly more people that like Call of Duty than Starcraft 2. I'm sure, and hope that this will change.
Need some help here. Is there a way to redo your placement matches? I am growing tired of terran, and want to make the change to toss but I dont want to get roflstomped by all the people I usually match up with.

unfortunately, you can't reset your MMR so your opponent's skill ratings will still be at the same level as when you switch to protoss. Either play custom games or lose 10-15-20 games in a row using toss. The initial 5 placement matches are for putting you into a league, but the single placement match at the start of a season is just for checking who is currently active.

I thought there was a way to replay the placement matches, no? Ive lost about 15 games and im still hitting diamonds and its getting frustrating.
I have a question regarding hotkey profile in SC2. I am trying to play random but I have different hotkey profiles for each race. Is there a way to change the profile easily using keyboard shortcuts after the game has started, without doing the F10->hotkeys->..... ?
No, unfortunately that is the fastest way I am aware of. Perhaps there is another way but as far as I've ever known (playing since beta) .. no, you cannot change your hotkeys without going to the menu->hotkeys

No. The only way to replay all 5 placement matches are to completely skip a season (Play season 1, don't play one single ladder game season 2, you play 5 placement matches season 3). Sorry, all you're doing is slowly lowering your MMR. At the moment, best guess, it's trying to realign. If you really want to try Protoss just keep immediately surrendering on games. 25-50 losses straight will put you in bronze.
Don't lose on purpose, it's a bannable offense and I will report you if I can/see, if you want to change your race, just do it and keep practicing with whoever comes, it can't be a bad practice just because you have little chances on winning. Your frustration is a psycological problem that you should try to fix by realising that losing is fine, you are learning, you shouldn't fix the frustration by smashing bronzes, really.
Are buttons on the mouse legal to use in tournaments? I don't know if they are non standard at like lans like MLG or whatever so I don't want to make use of them unless they are legal at lans and stuff. Please let me know :o
did blizz nerf portrait farming? I am stuck with the same amounts of wins stated in the achievements but in the Match history I still get points + wins.
I just played this guy (I'm high platinum, I primarily play diamonds) and I'm just lost as to what is going on. Look at his season 2 1v1. GM? Really? He was nothing special as far as Terrans go. He did a mass blue-flame hellion/marine all-in I held with properly positioned spines, a macro hatch, an evo chamber, and a queen blocking the only gap out. Then I killed him with muta harass into ling/ultra. Never the less, look at his season 2. GM but there were only 145 people. Maybe he was LA GM? I did have trouble viewing his account at first.

Could be a former GM gave that account to their friend to play on, who actually sucks. I know sixjaxmajor gave his account to someone else after he was released from sixjax(before it disbanded) and plays under Nonge now.
or, he was in LA GM and they all play at a diamond level. Some servers are significantly weaker than others.
So I feel that since 1.4 came out in September I must talk about it, and what I want to ask is with the immortal buff is chargelot, immortal going to be a more commonly used build?

It might be a good bust build vs Terra and you can go to ht\ archon from there. Also it might be good against some tank bio. Maybe overall used as counter play, not a standard strat. ^^
My question: Is there a feature somewhere for player notes, maybe in sc2gears? That would be fantastic.
Want to ask other sea server player if they feel like me. I have hardly ever get to ay custom game. No one join game in custom map. It use to be a lot more custom map player last year, now there is almost none.
i have come to understand how dumb starcraft is in many ways after demuslim had a stream for a while go there he mentioned several things about game design and 20% of the games being about luck.
It's so true when i started to think about it.
Dont know how many games there my enemy have just blindly asumed what build i'm going for and countered it it a really dumb way (luck). Or someone is just doing a cheese and wins on it and things like that.
demuslim said the same thing and i understand it, they should have done it a lot easier to scout your enemy aswell as making it easier and cheaper to get defense structers in the start so you dont get this kind of 5min games or (ye i asumed you went banshee so i built 3misselturrets, got a raven and a viking without scouting your base "lol i'm good
It aint like other a lot of other E-sport games there the game itself isnt based on stupid luck

I used to think like that as well, till I watched MLG and the koreans took top 3, top 6, then I noticed that there is some good skill involved, especially in a bo3+. The top top koreans (top code s) won't lose to normal pros (europeans, code b) in a match, maybe in a game, but then they recover (most often than not at least).
But anyway, it does happen in a lot of sports, soccer depends so heavily on lucky and people still love it. Most game go 1x0 and any team could have scored luckily that 1 gol, it is still the most watched sport, so some luck isn't an issue.

Okay, question that's probably been answered a thousand times in places I can't find--will there be free vods for IPL3? And will there be a replay release?
