I’ve been playing Magic since around 2002, durig my high school days. For years I played what is commonly called ‘kitchen table Magic’ until the release of Ravnica in 2005. That’s when I played limited for the first time, including drafts.
The previous year, 2025, was the first year where I drafted enough of all 7 sets released that I feel confident enough to rank them and give my thoughts about them. I’m gonna rank them mostly of how I felt the limited enviroment was. Was it fun? Did it feel balanced? All of my drafts this year were online, either Magic Arena or Magic Online. Without further ado:

7. Marvel’s Spider-Man / Through the Omenpaths
To the surprise of no one Marvel’s Spider-Man was, by far, the worst set this year. The small set size, combined with the Pick-Two Draft format, made for a very unfun set. Each draft felt too small, not enough card pool to make a good card selection on many picks. Add to that this set only that had 5 limited archetypes, and some of them were vastly better than others. All of this makes this set the bottom of the barrel of 2025.

6. Tarkir: Dragonstorm
Possibly the surprise for most people reading this, Tarkir: Dragonstorm is my #6 set this year. The original Khans of Tarkir was a delight to draft, and was very excited to draft this set. Unfortunately, the set ended up being a multicolor meh for me. It was very easy to stop your momentum with a beffy creature (looking at you Lotuslight Dancers), and having 5c dragons as a viable draft option it just made the set a slop of big creatures. I cannot say I enoyed this set.

5. Innistrad Remastered
Pretty sure many people don’t even remember this set. Being launched at the beggining of the year, not being Standard legal, and online it skipped Magic Arena, I would not be surprised most people skipped this set. And this set is funny: in my opinion this was the most unbalaced set of the year. All of the good decks I saw were either Red-White or Red-Black. So why is this #5? It was very fun. Playing some variation of RDW each game in a format full of RDW was surprisingly fun. Never have I played so many 1-drops in draft, and win. This is why Innistrad Remastered is my #5 set of the year.

4. Avatar: The Last Airbender
From here on out, this is where the ‘good’ sets begin. And that’s what Avatar is: good. Overall it is balanced, and the different archetypes and mechanics are good. Earthbending is very good, Waterbending is deceptively powerful. I specially enjoy the UB draw-two archetype, with the small card advantage you can gain every turn. If I had criticism about this set of how some creatures have low thoughness so it is easy to hold back on attacks to not lose it. I feel this is also the most “safe” set of the year, everything just seems fine and nothing more. Overall this is a fun set to draft.

3. Aetherdrift
The other good set of the year. This and Avatar are both, in my opinion, very similar in levels of fun. At the end I selected this as #3 because, while it was easier to stall the board in this set, I felt the mechanics and archetypes were more fun. With several good build-around cards, you can build some really fun decks: from Artifacts to Exhaust to discard to Max Speed. A fun set to draft.

2. Final Fantasy
At #2, Final Fantasy was, in my opinion, the most balanced set of the year. All colors seemed playable and all were powerful. Pick any archetype and you’ll probably end up with a good and playable deck. This was also the last Universes Beyond set that used the UB frame, and I’m gonna be honest, I’m gonna miss it. It gave it a very unique look, but I understand why it was discontinued. I wish all Magic sets were as good as this one.

1. Edge of Eternities
As my favorite set to draft this past year: Edge of Eternities. This decks was very fun to draft, and it had very fun mechanics and archetypes. With a good built deck, you could CRUSH in this format. I’ve won (and lost) many games because of a very well drafted deck. If you’re good at drafing, you’ll probably enjoyed this format very much. While Spacecrafts had very little impact in the format, the rest of the mechanics were fun: from Artifacts to Landfall. Shoutout to UB control this format, it was my favorite control deck of the year.
