Weekly Cup Competitions Week of August 3 - August 9Protoss were completely shut out of cup victories in the first week of August—the first such occurrence since the 5.0.16 patch went live in late June. The cup spoils ended up being distributed evenly between a variety of Terran and Zerg players, with Rogue, Solar, ByuN, Cure, and even Percival getting on the list of winners.

August 3: WardiTV Mondays #97

Zerg were dominant in WardiTV Mondays, with the top three Korean Zergs of Rogue, SHIN, and Solar all making the final four. Solar ended up being the ultimate winner, sweeping Rogue 3-0 in the grand finals (VOD).
Solar got the job done against Rogue in a variety of ways, hitting a Muta-Ling-Bane timing in game one, decisively winning the early Ling-Bane knife-fight in game two, and prevailing in a traditional Roach-Ravager war in game three.

August 3: Patches Monday #1

StarCraft: Evolution Complete (SC2 vs BW) isn't the only modded version of StarCraft II to get high-level play—Patches' Versus Mod kicked off a limited series of weeklies played under the extremely ambitious balance mod. It's hard to sum-up the pages and pages of changes in the mod, but you could think of it as a soft-revert to 5.0.15 with a TON of new upgrades added for units and buildings (VOD)..
Unfortunately, the competitors were relatively conservative in their approach to the mod, incorporating 'obvious' upgrades into existing strategies (such as Roach supply being halved at Hive or Tanks dealing reduced friendly splash). Still, there's plenty of strategic space for players to explore as the competition continues, and hopefully we'll see someone actually win a game with mass Banshees and their splash damage upgrade in the future.

August 4: Sparkling Tuna Cup #140

The Sparkling Tuna Cup ended up being one of those competitions where the runner-up was more notable than the winner. ByuN took an unsurprising win as the strongest player among the participants, but 17-year-old Zerg Iba stole the spotlight by defeating NightMare and Classic on his way to the finals (VOD).
Both of Iba's wins against the pair of veteran Protoss were quite convincing, as he kicked through the front door with a variety of Lair-tech attacks. However, ByuN promptly flattened Iba 3-0 in the finals, where the young Brit's early-game defense was found sorely lacking.

August 4: PiGosaur Cup #93

Cure had been held to second place in several of the post 5.0.16 weeklies, but he managed to nab himself a first place finish in PiGosaur Cup #93 (VOD). Cure getting a 3-0 over herO after losing the vast majority of their recent bouts was a notable upset, but alas, there doesn't seem to be a VOD of that particular match. As for the finals against ByuN, it was your usual TvT fair between top players, with the Marine-Tank-Raven battles around the 6-8 minute mark being the crucial inflection points.

August 5: Kung Fu Cup #18

Rogue continued his recent surge with an impressive Kung Fu Cup run, where he took down GgMaChine, Ryung, herO, ByuN, and Cure to win the weekly title (VOD).
Camping out and boring your opponent to death has reemerged as one of the most effective TvZ strategies in 5.0.16b, but Rogue proved himself to be a skilled turtle-cracker against his Terran opponents. While many of Rogue's wins simply involved smashing through the Terran defenses before they were fully set, a patient, 40-minute dismantling of Cure in the finals gave us a glimpse of the elite late-game play we had rarely seen from Rogue since his return from military service.

August 7: IntoTheTV X SOOP SC2 Weekly #1

IntoTheTV and SOOP kicked off a new tournament series, featuring a number of weeklies culminating in a monthly finals. Weekly #1 went to the underdog Percival, who shook off his summer slump to remind us why he was looked upon as the scene's hottest rising player in early 2026 (VOD).
Percival has always been surprisingly competitive against ByuN, so perhaps it wasn't the biggest upset for him to take a 3-2 victory in the finals. Whether it was late-game macro or two-base timings, Percival looked very much like a top-tier player in the Terran mirror.
