TL Guild
The <LIQUID> guild, Math of Exile, is open to any Teamliquid users. We have a decent number of both SC and HC players. Though our activity drops down later in a league, beginning of the league is super active and hype. Best thing about the guild is that you can for the most part trust everybody; people are friendly, give build advice, trade fairly, share masters / loot / maps, progress together, etc.

No rules except general TL decency. We've never had a problem with guild stash robbery or scamming, and don't expect to have any such problems in the future. To join, drop a comment in the thread with your IGN, or message one of the following officers (should be active beginning of next league).

+ Show Spoiler [Game Overview] +

Path of Exile is an ARPG made by Grinding Gear Games, inspired by classic games like Diablo 2. At its core, PoE is a hack-and-slash game based around loot, but with a vast array of build possibilities and endgame content. PoE is perhaps the most complex ARPG around, but that depth makes it one of the more rewarding and fun ARPG experiences.

Core Features
7 Classes, 19 Ascendencies, No Limits
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

PoE has 7 character classes, each representing some combination of the three core attributes: Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. Though each class resembles typical RPG archetypes, the game is designed so that every class can potentially do anything, if built correctly. For example, the Witch, who looks like a typical spellcaster, can also be a potent bow character or a hammer toting badass.

The Marauder
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Strength based. A proud warrior of the Karui, respectful towards the ancestors and tribal spirits of his people, and brutally merciless towards his enemies.

The Duelist
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Strength/Dexterity based. An inimitable swordsman of both great talent and charm, though his quick anger and haughty pride are what ultimately forced him into exile.

The Ranger
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Dexterity based. A huntress of the wild who has spurned human society, believing it to be wasteful and corrupt. A true believer in independence and the value of the natural world.

The Shadow
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Dexterity/Intelligence based. A silent assassin, a murderous artist, a flicker in the dark. The Shadow is a professional whose delight in killing sometimes goes beyond simply finishing the job.

The Witch
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Intelligence based. Persecuted, her family and village slaughtered, she got revenge using her strange abilities they so feared. Like the others, Wraeclast's secrets provide an opportunity for growth and power.

The Templar
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Strength/Intelligence based. A true believer, the Templar is man of bravery and faith in a world where such ideals hardly exist. The Templar will stop at nothing to defeat the corruption that plagues the world.

The Scion
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Master of all three attributes. A true prodigy, yet born to a noble family that saw her as nothing more than a tool. Exiled after killing her husband on their wedding night, Wraeclast will unlock her limitless potential. Must be discovered.

These characters are connected by the Passive Skill Tree, a massive network of minor nodes and major keystones.
+ Show Spoiler [It's slightly big] +
[image loading]

Each class has a different starting area on the passive tree, but with enough points any class can take any passive skill, allowing a huge diversity of builds.

As one levels up, one can take an Ascendency Class, which futher augments a character's abilities in thematic ways. For example, the Shadow can become the Assassin, increasing his critical damage output, a Saboteur, focusing on traps and mines, or the Trickster, a balanced character with bonuses to Energy Shield and Evasion. You can read more about Ascendancy here.

Where's the gold? Crafting, Itemization, and Skill Customization
+ Show Spoiler +
Currency
[image loading]
Like any ARPG, the game revolves around killing monsters for loot, then using that loot to build up your character. Unlike other ARPGs, PoE doesn't have any universal currency type like gold.

Instead, the game features various currency types that can be used to trade with other players, or consumed to craft stronger items. This allows PoE's great item design to shine; the game features a wide array of items and item affixs that can be crafted & modified to suit your needs.
+ Show Spoiler [A Famous Blade] +
[image loading]
Might not be obvious, but this item took an obscene amount of currency to craft, creating one of the most powerful and mirrored daggers ever.

Aside from rare items, PoE has over 1000 Unique Items, many of which were designed by players. These can drastically change how a character plays and are often build defining. However, uniques are not universally best in slot; well crafted rare items can match or even surpass their unique counterparts, making itemization more interesting.
+ Show Spoiler [A Build Enabling Unique] +
Facebreaker Unique Gloves give a huge boost to Unarmed Physical Damage, allowing you to ditch your weapon in favor of punching enemies in the face!

Build Your Own Skills
[image loading]
In PoE, instead of learning spells or attacks from a skill tree, they are enabled through "skill gems" that you socket into your gear. You can then link "support gems" to them to augment them. This ranges from something simple like Melee Physical Damage Support boosting a melee skill's damage, to effects like Chain Support which fundamentally alter a skill's base mechanics.

+ Show Spoiler [Old Vid showing supports] +

Endless Builds
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
The sum of all these mechanics allows for a huge variety of builds. There's a special sort of thrill that comes from poring over patch notes, planning out a build, then seeing if it works in practice. The game rewards players who utilize deeper game knowledge, though there are starter builds and guides for people starting out.

GGG releases a video series called Build of the Week, which showcases what the game can offer; definitely worth a watch if you're curious what is possible.

Frequent Content Updates, Leagues, & Developers Who Care
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Path of Exile features a large amount of quality content, with a main storyline that has 10 Acts of quests and bosses throughout harsh Wraeclast and its many locales. After wrapping up the story, the ever evolving endgame awaits.

Mapping, the main endgame activity, entails using "map items" to enter new zones that contain more difficult monsters and bosses, and thus more rewarding loot and exp. You can customize these maps using currency, to increase both the difficulty and the rewards.
+ Show Spoiler [Map Crafting in Action] +
[image loading]
More rare monsters, OK that's not too bad

Ouch.

Support and Leagues
[image loading]
Regarding the evolving endgame - GGG releases new content in the form of Leagues every 3 months. These new leagues come with a ladder reset, allowing for a fresh start for characters and the economy, and a sizeable content update to the game's mechanics and endgame.

GGG constantly adds expansion sized content to PoE, for free.

One example of a huge update was the Atlas of World expansion, which completely revamped the endgame mapping system and added 19 new bosses.

GGG, the best in the business
[image loading]

GGG made PoE to make a game that they would want to play, and their love for the game shows. Their amazing support (very helpful and quick customer service), their constant community interaction (appear on podcasts, post on reddit often, all hail Chris Wilson, etc.), and their fair business practices make them a great company to get behind.

It's free?? A Great F2P model
+ Show Spoiler +
To cap it off, PoE is F2P - all of the content is available for all. The majority of MTX are cosmetic, like weapon visual effects, capes, things like that. There are some QoL microtransactions like stash tabs, which admittedly are very helpful, but they are only needed if you will be diving into the endgame.
Stash tabs

Aside from all the things mentioned already, PoE also has PvP, up to 6 perrson multiplayer play, a deep economy, competitive speedracing, and more, all for FREE. There are all sorts of ways to enjoy the game, and GGG are constantly expanding it.

If you'd like to try the game out, check out the official website to download, or you can use steam if you wish. Leave a message in the thread if you have any questions. Stay sane, Exile!

Path of Exile is a ARPG that heavily resembles Diablo 1&2. The game is free to play and is not "pay2win" the only the item mall only sells things such as dance animations, weapon effects, special "helmets", and pets none of which help you in combat and are only for looks.

6 Classes are available in PoE.
The colors in the picture represent the three attributes red is Strength, blue is Intelligence, and green is Dexterity. The Witch fills the role of the Intelligence she is usually stocked with AOEs and summons. Marauder is the strength character usually built as a tank. Ranger fills the role of DPS with pure dexterity. Duelist is a hybrid of Strength and dexterity excels in dual wielding, and shield and sword/axe. The Templar is the Strength/Intelligence hybrid usually who often excels as a summoner or a tank-mage. The final class is the Shadow he is a sadistic butcher which wields claws and daggers he also often carries traps.

The skill gem system is this is confusing for most players at first so I will give you a quick run-down of how it works. You will be awarded skill gems through the means of quests, drops, and trading. These gems are the colors of the 3 attributes, and will be inserted into your equipment. You insert them into slots of the same color example: Fireball is a intelligence gem so you must have x amount of intelligence to equip it and a blue socket on your gear. You can remove and change them as you please they do not get destroyed upon removal which you do by simply right clicking the gem. As you kill mobs and gain experience so will your gems, and they will all get equal XP no matter how many you have equipped. You can use your skills by the hotkeys right mouse, middle mouse, and keys Q-T. Then you have support gems which you equip to linked slots + Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
as you can see in this picture the sword has a strength and 2 dexterity slots linked so if you put for example frenzy and milti-arrow in the green slots and an increased fire damage support gem in the red slot the powers from the support gem are added to multi-arrow and frenzy. You can have multiple support gems on your skills but you cannot have 2 of the same type.

The passive tree which is what you spend your skill points from leveling up and completing quests on is quite intimidating at first. It is huge to be blunt about it. There are so many options that you can choose for your character in here. Where you start on this tree is based on your class as in the Witch starts where the intelligence and spell damage nodes are and Marauder around health and armor nodes. I’m not going to say much about the skill tree as there is way too much to cover. However follow this link for a look at the skill tree and what it contains! Even make a test build in it.

Monsters in this game are handled in four ways, normal, blues, rares, and bosses you will see the mods they have under their names. The normal ones are your basic monster that have no special powers until the later difficulties which you get by completing all the acts they will get resistances to things such as Fire, cold, and physical* and maybe immunities in the higher difficulties(I’m not sure haven’t reached them). Then you have your blues also called magic these are pretty much the same as normal except they have a mod on them which vary from Increased damage, regenerates life, gains frenzy charge on hit, and even the rare drops extra loot known as the ‘wealth’ mod. Blues usually come in small groups of 2-4. Rares are the ones you need to look out for not only do they have mods just like blues but they can have an aura which affects all monsters around it in a positive way or affects you in a negative way, some of these are allies cannot die, resists all, and the feared reflect physical damage or elemental damage killing these net you the best loot. Note however only 20% of what you hit with will be reflected back at you.

A monster sporting the reflect physical damage aura.

This guys a bad-ass

Bosses are usually alone and difficult to bring down, They have unique abilities and mods you are unable to see and are also able to cast spells that can be devastating. After you kill a boss you will be awarded some loot and often times you will also find a loot chest in the room after the boss.

Buying and selling is done in orbs, and items. It is difficult to get used to and I still haven’t got the hang of it. The orbs most used in trading are Chaos, Regal, Alchemy, Blessed, Gemcutter’s, and jewelers. This however isn’t even half of the orbs. List of Orbs

Items come in four forms which are, normal, magic, rare, and unique. These items are based off of a Prefix and Suffix mods system in which you can see by their names for example: Smoldering sword of Plunder is a sword that gives added fire damage and item rarity. Normals are the color white and are usually junk but with the right amount of sockets or quality% it can be worth it to pick it up whites are the only ones that do not have to be identified. Magic are blue you are unable to equip them until they are identified with a scroll of identify they contain 1-2 mods. Rares the yellow ones these are the ones you are looking for the most they have the best mods of all the items and are what your character will be mostly wearing at the end game. Uniques are the color brown* these are the rarest items to find and can be powerful especially at low levels. Currently there are 55 unique items in the game and more are being added these items have set attributes and are great for using with a specific build.

PvP is an important subject for a lot of people and in Path of Exile the PvP isn’t released yet however it does sound great. There will be a mode called Cutthroat in which anyone can join your instance and kill you at any time. There will be Cutthroat tournaments in the future in which everyone starts at level one and fights for survival and to kill the other players. On top of that there will be a team based arena with ranking system*, and they will be balancing PvP to make all characters fair and enjoyable.

With no currency such as gold in the game vendors will sell you things for items and you can sell some items in combination for higher level items an example of this would be a 20% weapon gets you a blacksmiths whetstone. Full list of vendors recipes found here:Link.

Building your character in Path of exile is so unique and fun. I am always going back and creating a new character because I had thought of an idea for another class. Seeing your builds come together is great as it takes a lot of planning to do. If you have a build you like make a video or guide and post it here and I will add it to the OP.

When the game is released it will be Free to play with micro-transactions these transactions are said to be things from only aesthetic such as dragon headed fire balls to new class skins, and the ability to create your own servers rules which you and your friends can play on.

If you see anything that needs to be edited, removed, or added please send me a PM and I will get right on it! I plan on adding more info and images later.
Items marked with a * means I am unsure and would like clarification.

Interesting, except why would this be better than D3? And imo you can't really buy Power in D3 except from other players, which gives an interesting amount of value to loot. One we can't really say is bad yet.

Looks decent tho regardless.

Well, I'll not get in an argument about which is better and whether or not you can buy power. Suffice to say path of exile is a lot more similar in terms of art style to diablo 1 and 2 than diablo 3 is. D3 is more WoW-ey, at least in my eyes.

The reason I liked this game when reading about it was the PvP:

From the faq
13. I really love PvP, do you support that?
Yes! In addition to the PvE content, Path of Exile will contain many PvP elements, including random arenas, a ranking system, seasonal ladders and unique PvP item rewards. The game has a tremendously fun and rewarding PvP experience.

Game Modes
Leagues are able to apply a different set of game rules to their players. For example, increased monster difficulty, world PvP, permadeath or various "Ironman" rules. We have many plans for interesting game modifiers that leagues can apply, but one rule is clear – they must only make the game harder.

Leagues

Hardcore
Typically, “hardcore mode” in action RPGs involves permadeath. A character killed in this mode cannot be accessed any more. In Path of Exile, slain hardcore characters revert to the parent non-hardcore league. This system encourages non-hardcore players to try the hardcore game mode, while still permanently removing hardcore characters from the economy when they die.

Ironman
In Ironman, players are unable to trade with vendors or refill their flasks in town. Mana regeneration is disabled by default. Players are encouraged to band together and manage their resources in order to survive.

Cut-throat
The cut-throat leagues appeal to the niche of players who demand the most hardcore gaming experience possible. In this mode, all world areas are public, with full PvP enabled by default. Slain characters drop all their items upon death. This game mode can also be combined with Hardcore to create an even more unforgiving world.

Interesting league for PvEers

Attrition
An attrition league is a short duration league that starts with a fixed number of players and eliminates the player with the lowest amount of experience at periodic intervals. For example, a 24 hour attrition league might start with 100 players and eliminate one player per 12 minutes after a four hour initial leveling period. Players would be able to see how close to elimination they are on an on-screen ladder display.

They also have something called paid league which means players/guilds upon paying certain amount of money can create their own league with its own set of rules.

Here you can read more about the different leagues for PvP and PvE:

http://www.pathofexile.com/news/2011-08-03/dev-diary-pvp new dev diary released, about their plans for PvP. One of the great things about path of exile IMO is how the devs listen to the fans and keep up a lot of communication with them.

Cut-throat
The cut-throat leagues appeal to the niche of players who demand the most hardcore gaming experience possible. In this mode, all world areas are public, with full PvP enabled by default. Slain characters drop all their items upon death. This game mode can also be combined with Hardcore to create an even more unforgiving world.

This is awesome and the Attrition one. Intense!

Thanks for the heads up, first I've heard of this game.
It's supposed to be automatic but actually you have to press this button.

Looks awesome, not being held back by D3's young community by the looks of some of the artwork. The characters look pretty weak in the videos though compared to diablo where it only takes 3/4 hits to kill, but there are a lot more monsters in diablo to compensate. Is that just because these are lower level characters, or can we expect this slower style of gamplay throughout?

They're generally using their alpha characters for gameplay vids now, and in the case of the vids I posted, I think the devs said it was a higher level area than the char would normally be in? Once you get leveled it'd be just as fast as diablo, I expect.

The competitive part is really great about this game, sure the graphics isn't making me jump out of my chair but I hope the audience will be a bit more mature and the gameplay fun.

They of course are going to use matchmaking for all of their leagues so you will compete with people on your own skill level.

I really like that they have competive spirit in both PvP and PvE so that there is competition both for PvPers and PvEers (who can level the fastest for example).

Best part is that it is a F2P game with microstransaction (where you don't have to spend a cent in order to be competitive) so if the game should suck you haven't lost anything more than the time spent trying the game out

It's going to be fun what new league formats the community can come up with since players can create their own leagues with own set of rules.

Fuck yeah! No need to hype over D3 any more, I'll just get this game instead.

I'm gonna roll a duelist (dual wielding, fast paced character). I just loved the duelist character intro, specially the dark voice presenting the character.

Character intro duelist

Here are some of the other character intros which are equally awesome. Really like the voice actors used in the trailers.
Two of the other classes (there are 6 in total):

Templar

Witch

Wow, that Witch gameplay trailer is awesome, this game is dripping with atmosphere! I can't wait to DL it when it's released, and I plan on telling all of my friends to check it out!

The Templar video was equally enticing, ugh it's going to be so hard to pick a path. The writers of this game deserve a commendation for working so closely with the artists to make a concurrent feeling!
