Fast forward a few years and I fell in love making FarCry escape maps for years and years (seriously I have made over 100 puzzle maps in FC2 and FC3). I briefly dabbled in UDK in college and dreamed of making games for a living, but reality kicked in and I dropped out of art school and became a full time truck driver. Not a lot of good stuff happened during those years, but I did meet a nice girl and adopted a kitty. Cute. And this distant dream of making a game slowly came into focus during this truck driving era. I downloaded Unreal Engine 4 for free and started to dip my toes in.
I worked for about a year on a puzzle platformer and made a shit ton of mistakes (including paying over a thousand dollars on hand and arm animations before the prototype was any good). I realized the game just wasnt that great after some soul searching. But it did have one really interesting mechanic. In the previous game, each new temple the player entered had a new mechanic, and one of them was this purple/red fire that killed them if the reticle made contact. It was a strange playing experience because players would be cautious even gazing around or keeping their head low when entering a new chamber. And I decided to make an entire game around this mechanic, but making it in black and white where contact with WHITE killed the player. And henceforth, What Has Come Before was born.
After 5 years of development, I lost the girl and the cat, but I'm finally in the end stages of releasing this thing. To be truthful, its more of an art game than a puzzler extravaganza, so dial down your expectations. Expect a 2/5 game so when you get a 3/5 you feel like its not half bad. Try the demo here
