Still amazing game and worth checking out even after 8 years or what? Only downside I personally experienced was many bugs and crashes, gameplay and content wise it's golden.
Never got into playing the second game though.

I guess 'm in the minority that don't enjoy most mainstream rpg games. Though tbh I love the mount and blade series. They are amazing. while on the topic of rpg's. any ones one might care to suggest ones other than the obivious kotor Morrowind, Persona 4, Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape: Torment. But obviously try Kotor out again it's one of the best(this includes KOTOR2). whoever hasn't played persona 3 and 4 should literally drop everything they are doing and GET TO IT. if you don't have a ps2, EMULATE it xD I'm sorry, but jRPG's suck. There are great JRPGs and bad JRPGs, just like western made RPGs ... I think most people would agree a game like Final Fantasy Tactics is far better than a game like Fable 2 or Dragon Age 2.

KOTOR 3 would have been amazing. Lucas fucked up KOTOR 2's Development time because he can't handle people exploring his precious story.

+ Show Spoiler + The male romance with Bastila also had a very sweet and touching ending. KOTOR2 was amazing as well; just a shame it was so buggy.

Pretty touching if I do say so myself.

I remember I once did a Boba Fett style character. Was running around blasting things to pieces. The only force powers I used were immunities (chose Sentinel as it seemed to me that it would be prudent to have your blooded bounty hunter not fear stuff). It's pretty damn hard, I don't believe I finished the game this way. Boss fights tend to be really damn tough with their blaster bolt deflection and what not... Might be easier in K2, where you can take feats which help with that.

Sadly if you have seen the leaked Old republic gameplay video, you already know that we will never have the chance to play an awesome game like the first one. They turned it into a WoW clone with starwars skins. I don't want to go in the forest and kill boars and collect their skins(even if it is with a lightsaber), thank you very much...

In KotOR 1, it's next to impossible to do as light side and without Jedi Powers for one simple reason: The final boss fight. He has super duper deflection and every time you get him low, he drains a prisoner. Unless you drain all of them before he does and main-line life support packs, I can't see you winning the fight at all. KotOR 2 it's more than possible thanks to completely overpowered end-game weapon mods and passive feats. (The light side feat that gives you every buff in the game for 1 turn of casting time for instance).

Too bad Obsidian kinda ran out of time and release it in that state. Althought modders did a good job, they weren't the original creators and a lot of data was lost forever. The storyline is really great I find, and it's also a big plus for me that it isn't based on Luke-Vader times, which I'm honestly sick of. Such a shame SW:TOR will be an MMO not another epic epic instalment. Bastila x Revan was sooo good =) I love the lore and story based around Revan, Bastila and their timeline! I'll also add something:

KOTOR was a fantastic part of some of my earliest gaming experiences and it is a title that shouldn't be missed. There are some great characters, a great storyline, and an epic feel. Obviously you will get more out of it as a Star Wars fan but even if you aren't, KOTOR will be a lot of fun. What frustrates me the most about KOTOR 2 is that you can see the potential the game had to even exceed the first, but it stumbles at too many points to make it. The end was, quite frankly, rushed and uninspiring. Peragus was also not fun. Other levels were actually pretty good, and the darker storyline was a great new way to approach things, if they had actually completed it and done it justice. + Show Spoiler + Having Sion and Traya merely a door apart at the end really shows how they had to rush things I played KOTOR on PC about 6 months ago and had fun, even though this was probably about my 10th time playing it. I played KOTOR 2 only about 3 times and none recently. So take that as you will. As for TOR, to use a Star Wars quote, "I got a bad feeling about this". But of course, I'll play it anyways, and hope for the best. They sure know how to make great trailer cutscenes though!
