I hope this will inspire some people I want to add that Kotor2 has kreia, who is one of the best characters i have ever seen in a game, movie,or literature. She is the only chick in a rpg that i didn't want to bang (obviously), yet i carried her everywhere. There is a restoration project for kotor2 that restores most of the cut content from the game.Including shitload of cutscenes, dialogues, endings, skills, quests and even an entire planet(HK factory). I played that mod a few years ago and it was %99 complete.Yet i cant find the original site at the moment. If anyone wants they could check the lucas or bioware forums i guess and for the love of god people..PLAY THE FIRST GAME FIRST,SECOND GAME SECOND. Here you go: http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/;115177 kotor 1 or 2? 1 then 2 Just for stories sake.

You either have to go scavenge up a box copy, find an obscure digital distribution site that has it, or go pirate it. If you already purchased it before, you might as well just do the latter.

I would put fallout 2 or planescape torment above it easily.

I never knew about that restoration project for KotoR 2, I might play 2 again when I'm done, even though I hadn't planned to. edit: I played on the infinity engine when it was new, but now I despise it (and any one similar to it). I can hardly stand touching any game that uses it now. Combat mechanics featuring it just aged so poorly. edit 2: HK is definitely awesome, he's not at the top of my list but he's close. edit 3 (fuck it, I'm in a reflective mood): Oddly enough, most of the characters in KotoR are actually pretty boring, except for HK. He's fantastic to talk to and have around in various situations. I just find it odd to think that every other character in KotoR is 100% forgettable, whereas their (bioware's) newer rpgs are filled with memorable characters in comparison.

Much better in fact, I felt the first one was sort of a rehash of A New Hope with renamed characters, while the second one was a more personal journey that took an approach to morality that was completely unprecedented in Star Wars games. i agree i felt like the stuff missing in kotar 1 was added and modified ni kotar 2, also the new powers and abilities made the game so much more enjoyable. Just remember in kotar 1 when you go to the crates and cant remeber if you opened it. I hated that

Christ, is this what it feels like to grow up? Old school for me is more like 1993 and before. I remember kotor being a pretty good RPG, nothing particularly amazing about it, I do remember being hooked on it for awhile when it came out. To be honest it was pretty shallow in many ways, imo. Just a little less shallow than Mass Effect. Also I really don't see where you're coming from in terms of HK being a great character, or even the best in an RPG. Imo that's crazy talk. PS another thing I remember about the game is the HORRIFICALLY shallow and simplistic morality system and the 'set pieces' to determine your morality.

This games are so good. SO GOOD! @sc4k: You know, I come from the days of Eye of Beholder, Ishar, Might & Magic series and the like. I've chosen KotOR specifically because it's probably the last good RPG series that was released. It felt great even after TESIII: Morrowind, which set the bar pretty high in my opinion (Oblivion was a joke in comparison). And what makes them even better, is the fact that they were released both for PC and consoles, and usually such games tend to fail hardcore. And HK is the funniest and most entertaining character ever. There was some true genius writing his lines... "Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds." - HK-47 How can anyone NOT love this guy? P. S. And a pearl from the back of a box: "Sell gizka guano to overenthusiastic Rodian!" That's how you advertise a game people!

PS I personally loved Oblivion but shucks I really am in the minority there. It will have to go away into my 'don't bring it out in public draw' along with the remake of the wicker man and astrology.
