James Bond movies ranking - part 1

The closest i was to this franchise was GoldenEye for N64 back in the good old days. i never watched any of the movies until recently that i saw almost all the movies in a streaming service. Here is my ranking:

sadly the movies are no more for the time being in prime so here ends the ranking for now.

Having watched all of them as well, if you don't have casino royale and Skyfall in your top 4, you're losing it. I also enjoy the Roger Moore movies, but that's mostly for its absurdism rather than actual quality like the aforementioned movies.

I really struggle with Skyfall still. The plot requires quite a bit of silliness & stupidity to work even for a Bond film, up to a point where it starts undermining the whole thing. A lot of the stuff after intro also feels really vapid and seems to exist only to let Deakins do his lighting stuff.

I should probably see it again at some point, but so far it has definitely felt like a mess to me even despite some really interesting stuff in it.

they’re a lot of flash and style and little substance.

imagine if top gun was released every few years with different planes and different actors playing maverick.

casino royale probably the best movie of the bunch imo because there’s something of a character arc for bond and it isn’t constrained by formula

one thing i enjoyed was learning about the "agents world". the meeting of all or most of 00 agents in Thunderball was pretty cool. 00 agents dieying in Live and Let Die was kind of a surprise to me, i thought killing a 00 was almost impossible.

The revenge arc against number 1 for killing his wife was good! damn, having Bond getting married was something i never expected. i was sure he was going to break up with Tracy with a nice excuse.

From Russia with Love have some interesting interactions between SPECTER members iirc.

Dr. No is my favorite villain. I really enjoyed the aquarium scene where he interviews Bond. That specific scene is probably my favorite Bond scene. I also love the Thunderball theme. It seems like you have a lot of variety in your opinions here and they are all very valid!

Daniel Craig in Casino Royale seemed much more like the bonds from the Ian Flemming books to me. They are good reads or good listening IMO.

Have not done any of the post ian flemming books.
