I agree that recommending Planescape:Torment to a young person would be bad though. I didn't fully appreciate that game until just recently. Also Kotor 2 is WAY better than the first.

Great purchase... excellent game. As the OP mentioned, HK-47 is awesome, as is Jolee Bindo. Tough enough I didn't just breeze through it, but not so hard I put it away for weeks on end and never came back to it. My introduction to the RPG genre. From there I played FFVI and got into WoW later.

Much better in fact, I felt the first one was sort of a rehash of A New Hope with renamed characters, while the second one was a more personal journey that took an approach to morality that was completely unprecedented in Star Wars games. The second one had a better UI, combat mechanics, and pretty much everything except the story and levels. It takes way too long to get to the main part of the game, you start as a Jedi so your stat growth gets exponentially better than the 1st game, thus making you completely overpowered no matter what you do from about the halfway point on, and the story is the most bullshit I've ever heard. It's a shame, because the characters (especially Kreia, whose theme song is "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid") were absolutely excellent, the storyline they played out was completely uninteresting and pulled form nowhere. Combine that with an ending that is literally just a zoom out and nothing more and you get major disappointment. I ran into the same problem with KotOR that I did with Baldur's Gate: I got used to the UI and other general improvements of the 2nd game that makes playing the first one painful, even though the first one is amazing. I still have it on my computer, though, so I pick it up every once in a while when my internet is down.

You can get ridiculously strong if you play all your cards right. by the end of the game on a "perfect" playthrough, I was almost unkillable, and any non-boss characters died in seconds to basically whatever the fark I wanted to do.

It was nice playing through them both again. One was awesome once again and although I thought they added a few nice things to 2, it just felt like it dragged on towards the end. Felt a bit aimless. The characters in 2 just seem to appear and join your crew. Like the bounty hunter chick...I didn't speak a word to her and I had to use her randomly at the end when the wookie somehow tracked her down for a 1v1. Anyway, I lost the fight and the game just carried on. The chick died and like...no one gives a fuck? I know I didn't. So many random ass characters that are in MY party and I just don't know why the fuck they are with me. I don't like half of them and I can't do anything about it. At the end I quicksaved it before fighting Darth thingie and when she asked me if I wanted to know about the future I said: "The future will reveal itself" or whatever. I then thought about reloading and doing all the other options like, "What happens to x character?" but I really didn't care so I just left the game.

I found both KoTORs to be pretty good, but I was annoyed with the first one and it's Xbox exclusiveness for quite some time, and I think it was the second one that had broken/unfinished endings (Broken in that they worked, but were weird and didn't make much sense till I think they later came back and fixed em).
