Personally i didnt like KotOR, i forced myself to play it and got stuck at one part and my friend came over to help(he beat the game 3 times at the point) and he even didnt know where the fuck i was. i never really got KotOR, i would sit down and try to play it some time but i dont have any time.

I'm sorry, but jRPG's suck.

I normally agree, but Persona 3/4 are quite honestly notable exceptions to that rule.

Yea, no thanks. The graphics is about PS1 level and the control is atrocious.

persona owns. in fact most SMT games own, especially nocturne/lucifer's call. i dont get people who froth at the mouth over wrpgs vs jrpgs. they are both genres each with their own good/terrible games. calm down!!

I'd still recommend baldur's gate 2 over Kotor to a young person. I was 11 years old when I first played both. Admittedly BG2 took much longer to figure out for my younger self but once I did I was just blown away by the story and the characters and such, and the combat is more strategic and fun than Kotor. I guess Kotor allows you to get into the action quicker and has nicer graphics but that's all it has up on BG2.

I agree that recommending Planescape:Torment to a young person would be bad though. I didn't fully appreciate that game until just recently. Also Kotor 2 is WAY better than the first.

I bought Kotor 2 for my new XBox purchase in the fall of 2004, mainly because I like Star Wars and it had some award on the front of the box.

Great purchase... excellent game. As the OP mentioned, HK-47 is awesome, as is Jolee Bindo. Tough enough I didn't just breeze through it, but not so hard I put it away for weeks on end and never came back to it. My introduction to the RPG genre. From there I played FFVI and got into WoW later.

The second one had a better UI, combat mechanics, and pretty much everything except the story and levels. It takes way too long to get to the main part of the game, you start as a Jedi so your stat growth gets exponentially better than the 1st game, thus making you completely overpowered no matter what you do from about the halfway point on, and the story is the most bullshit I've ever heard.

It's a shame, because the characters (especially Kreia, whose theme song is "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid") were absolutely excellent, the storyline they played out was completely uninteresting and pulled form nowhere. Combine that with an ending that is literally just a zoom out and nothing more and you get major disappointment.

I ran into the same problem with KotOR that I did with Baldur's Gate: I got used to the UI and other general improvements of the 2nd game that makes playing the first one painful, even though the first one is amazing.

I still have it on my computer, though, so I pick it up every once in a while when my internet is down.

Updated the OP with more mods (particularly, the ones I'm using myself) and organized them better.
Hope you'll find them useful.

KOTOR is one of the best RPG games and one of the best games of all time. Wish I still had my CDs to play it..

There you go.

Edit: Will add it to OP before people start asking about it over and over again...

Reinforcing this point. You can get ridiculously strong if you play all your cards right. by the end of the game on a "perfect" playthrough, I was almost unkillable, and any non-boss characters died in seconds to basically whatever the fark I wanted to do.

Anyway, nevermind kotor, what really makes me shudder is that there are young people out there who will never experience the unforgettable story, music and gameplay of Final Fantasy VII. Same goes for Deus Ex although it does seem that finally DE is getting more respect nowadays than it was getting around the 2006-9 era.

Was actually considering replaying this gem. I never was the biggest fan of the movies, so I didn't really liked the games, but KOTOR was different.

I recently replayed KotOR 1 and 2.
It was nice playing through them both again. One was awesome once again and although I thought they added a few nice things to 2, it just felt like it dragged on towards the end. Felt a bit aimless.
The characters in 2 just seem to appear and join your crew. Like the bounty hunter chick...I didn't speak a word to her and I had to use her randomly at the end when the wookie somehow tracked her down for a 1v1.
Anyway, I lost the fight and the game just carried on. The chick died and like...no one gives a fuck? I know I didn't. So many random ass characters that are in MY party and I just don't know why the fuck they are with me. I don't like half of them and I can't do anything about it.

At the end I quicksaved it before fighting Darth thingie and when she asked me if I wanted to know about the future I said:
"The future will reveal itself" or whatever. I then thought about reloading and doing all the other options like, "What happens to x character?" but I really didn't care so I just left the game.

The infinity engine RPGs were great, but a little imposing as 2nd edition Adnd tended to be... THAC0 was easily a huge mind bender, especially in BG2:TOB where you had players and monsters with huge negative ACs and Thac0. Resist rolls took me a while to get my mind around, but was a bit broken when you understood it, and led me to builds where you can one shot "almost" every boss.

I found both KoTORs to be pretty good, but I was annoyed with the first one and it's Xbox exclusiveness for quite some time, and I think it was the second one that had broken/unfinished endings (Broken in that they worked, but were weird and didn't make much sense till I think they later came back and fixed em).

Too tired to come up with something witty.
