I want to return to Brood War for a bit, set a goal for myself.
What is the equivalent MMR/rank to the old ICCUP C/C+, back in the day I could maybe scrape low C- on ICCUP, I would like to challenge myself a bit, I think the goal is fairly realistic, could accomplish it in a month or two.
I always struggled with ladder anxiety, back in the day (for me thats 2010), which shouldnt really be a problem anymore. I really struggled to improve back then because I had awful ladder anxiety, held me back a lot.
I dont really wanna commit my life to Brood War, but I do want to challenge myself a bit, but I have no reference point for how hard these current ranks are and even if Battle.net is the place to play.
I want to basically get to around C on the old ICCUP ranking system, essentially I just want to be around 100 MMR above what I was 10+ years ago. I want to be at a skill level where I could beat myself 90% of the time which would be old C based on MMR.
If I reach this goal, a goal I essentially had a decade ago but never achieved, I think I'm satisfied.
So, how do the new ranks translate to the old ICCUP ones?

Realistically I played some games yesterday, I'm fucking terrible atm. I am going on a long 1 month hiking trip this month, so Im only dipping my toes in now probably something I will chase once I get back.
What MMR is C?
Is B.net Europe a good place to play
Also I remember you from the old Sayle casts KogeT

Ladder is global it makes no difference which server you log onto first. C is 1600 to 1750 ish?
Tbh iccup was so long ago that it s a bit hard to map now. You ll probably need a while to unrust and i d recommend CPL and their discord in the meantime

I think its honestly a lot about the approach, if you half ass it, it could take a long time if you do it systematically, I dont think C is an insanely high rank so should be attainable few months of serious play. 2-3 months I think should be enough if I approach it methodically. If I am proven wrong then so be it.
I just played back then I think I've gotten better at getting better at things over the years.

Really, woaa from my feeling. C+ iccup (when korean were playing it, that is the prime version) is more like 1900 2000 mmr To me the gap between C+ and B- is equivalent of the gap between B and A mmr.
IMO ladder ranks are harder than iccup ranks, because there is a much higher probability you will run into koreans who reset their account to ladder up again.
so i’d say since you were low C on iccup, if you become mid-C today on bnet ladder you’d beat old self 90% of the time since the modern understanding of the game is on a way different level
maybe its just me though because i play during korea primetime. also maybe me living in cali has something to do with it? i feel like because of proximity i always get matched with koreans and have 24 TR with them because of it, could be wrong though
Iccup was harder imo, especially towards the end of the KeSPA era/during the dark days where basically only the hardcores stayed on iccup. I think when remastered first came out, I'd get to B rank pretty comfortably while only being like C-/C on iccup.
So I'd probably guess that remastered ladder is about half a rank higher than iccup ranking, so if you were B/B+ on iccup, you're probably A on ladder.
Iccup | Remastered F | F/low E D- | E/low D D/D+ | high D/low C C | high C/low B B | high B/low A A | high A/S

Yeah that was my experience too i never did better than C+ iccup (well i did B- for one game by luck, doesn't count) and mostly c-/c and went straight to B when the ladder rolled out for remastered. But also if you haven't played at all those 8 years it s hard to compare. I find now for the same MMR as season 1 i play way better. Smurfing is a real issue (more at D/C than C/B boundary tbh) but it s compensated by the koreans insta leaving some games. For most other there are a lot of bad korean players too up to 1900ish. Then it gets hard
But OP i misunderstood your initial question, if you meant what rank you can realistically get with some dedicated practice C for sure and likely B too. GL! Keep us posted
is arround the same, except B/A remastered feels easier than B-/B/B+ mb cause in iccup u used to play boX instead of bo1 so u could easily go 2 ranks down vs a better player in 1 day
u could hit b pretty much like nowadays playing vs C/C+/B- , but getting b+ was hard as fk cause b/b+/a- would hunt you for 5-9 games a day
I was B-/B rank around 2012 in iccup and now i'm low to mid A rank in bnet. I think my potential is bigger and also never pushed it too hard, but going from my own record you can assume bnet rank is one higher than your iccup rank. So C-/C would translate to low to mid B rank on bnet.
The arguments that you would face a better player for multiple times in a row on iccup is valid, but the same can happen on bnet. Also you have to be very consistent to advance your rank meaning you will need to beat players on the same level at least 6-7 out of 10 games.

i got my highest rank of b- on iccup by abusing destination as motw and only playing pvt and bulldogging every game lol
Exactly this. It was always funny back in the day where a high ranked B/B+ player would be playing against the same 10-12 people in rotation.
om bnet there is also some minor inflation of rating for 2300-2500 for foreigners. High ranked Koreans often leave if there is any hint of lagg and will donate free points by leaving.
