Regarding costs, for a full army it is cheaper and I'd argue better quality-for-cost than WH40K. Minis games are expensive to make/develop and expensive to buy, and it's not as reductive or simple as "plastic is rare or not rare." I would love to see a reprint of StarCraft: The Board Game.

Not the plastic itself but the forms for it and machinery required for production. That's why most tabletop startups go with metal or resin. Plastic has gigantic up-front costs but then very low ongoing costs so it's only really used by the biggest companies.

At the same time, there is an obvious hiking of the prices by actors such as Games Workshop. New producers like this might be more justified in having high prices.

Remember seeing the Starcraft remastered soundtrack on vinyl on the blizzard website around the time the remaster came out and they were selling it for around 30 bucks. You cannot get it now under $400.

Ah okay, thanks! That makes the decision really easy for me.

Smaller publishers do get by with a bunch of 3D printers, but they can't deal with the output that you require if you want to go outside of indie game making. It's the molds and the startup that is expensive, but once you have those you can mass produce and scale.

The quality of the minis looks okay, but for the price, I'd have expected better considering the quality currently put out by other manufacturers. A decade ago it would have been okay, but the technology has improved..... It feels like they're just milking the IP, and again, that should have been done a decade ago when the game was still newer and fresher in people's minds. I was looking forward to this when I first heard it was in development, but it really looks like a letdown instead.....
