War of Dots
The inspiration is popular YouTube videos like this one, where armies are reduced to dots, representing large scale battles with frontlines, retreats and not the least: encirclements.
The game is simplistic, in the genre of "Hearts of Iron 4", but still represents real wars fairly well: You start with a territory, cities and troups, with frontline(s) towards your enemy. Cities create funds, heal units faster and create new units. You attack, defend, redraw and strategically cycle out wounded units so they don't die. You have only 2 types of units, "heavy" and "light".
In FFA games, there is considerable mindgames at play as well, as you need to be very dilligent about who and when to attack.
