Long story short, I found out my ex Margaret was cheating. I have given her this name to conceal her identity. We had been together for 7 months, and I thought we had something special. She was studying to be an elementary school teacher and was short with brown hair and eyes. She was suspicious that I had a single female friend from high school (where I graduated 7 years ago) was still in contact with me on Instagram and we texted a few times a week.
My ex admitted my female friend - let's call her Ruby - made her uncomfortable so she decided to cheat with one of her college friends. I was sad but there was nothing I could do. I told Margaret she was a jerk for doing this but she moved out of our apartment to live with her parents.
Anyway, my single female friend Ruby texted me last Friday asking if I was available this upcoming weekend. Ruby is above average height for a woman, slim, with model like features, blonde hair, and a slight tan. She said she found out through a mutual friend that I broke up with Margaret. She was also upset because she said "there are no secrets between us but you hid your heartbreak from me". Now she is suggesting that we go camping together as friends but I feel like she might try to make a romantic move on me.
In the meantime, Margaret called me and apologized, saying it was her "time of the month" and was having a hard time emotionally because her mom had just passed away and she had been acting irrationally. I want to give her another chance because I love her and I know she wouldn't do this unless something drastic pushed her to it. I let her know that Ruby invited me to go camping over the weekend and of course Margaret was opposed to it but I lied and told her we were going with some friends too.
I told Ruby I was uncomfortable being alone with her in the wilderness in case we got attacked by a bear or something. She responded that I should "protect her and cuddle to keep warm in the cold night". I am attracted to Ruby but also want to stay faithful to Margaret. I feel like if a cross a line on the camping trip it would be difficult to forgive myself.

- I feel bad for whoever Margaret cheated with if she did it because it was her time of the month.
- The obvious solution here is for you to invite both of them.

Dunno if this story is real but if she cheated on you don't bother going back there.

Her excuses for cheating are almost as bad as the act itself. Margaret will cheat again if that’s her mentality.
I’d go camping with Ruby. It sounds a win-win If it’s just a friend thing, you get to take your mind off things in the wilderness. If she likes you in a romantic way and shows it, you don’t [i]have[/i/] to do anything with it, but you at least know and can factor it in.

On the topic at hand: I don't get this whole cheating thing in "mature" relationships . Isn't the base of a "real" relationship trust? I know I would never cheat in a relationship because if I wouldn't why would I still be in this relationship? Also, for every partner I had so far - which is very few - I know they didn't and wouldn't have cheated on me. (Yes, yes.. ofc I cannot know in the actual meaning of the word but I am as certain about this as I can be. Because if I wouldn't why would I get in a relationship in the first place?
Okay. There are probably many relationship that start with two people falling in love who didn't know each other before. And of course you have to get to know each other first before you can actually make a statement like the one above. And you wouldn't just don't start a relationship because of this. But after some time you get to this point in your relationship where you ask yourself: is this it or not, don't you?)
Assuming you are looking for a relationship like this which's supposed to last the rest of your lifes. Then, cheating is one reason to end a relationship. Maybe it makes sense to get back together at some point after the cheater had time to grow up and actually did. But something like that takes years in my experience. A true change in morales. Because cheating is not something that just happends. It's a process that takes at least minutes. If not hours or days. And obviously I'm not talking about the act itself. Because - and let me phrase a contemporary philosopher here - it's not like, one tripped, fell, landed on his dick - and is like uuuh that feels good, I am all aroused 'n shit now, no way I can stop. Which I could understand  and forgive and wouldn't have to undermine the basic trust.
So, my opinion in that matter:
If you look for a partner you can trust in, don't get together with your recent ex. I don't think you can trust her. Maybe somewhen in the future. but not now.
Go camping dude. Get to know this lady further . Let her get to know you further. Be honest in general. But also that you still have feelings for your ex. Why wouldn't you still have feelings for her? See where that takes you two. Idk. But obviously you don't feel comfortable just having sex with the tall lady. Let her know if it gets to that. see what she has to contribute.

Did I get this right? Your Margaret was cheating, is opposed to meeting other girls and you want to stay faithful to her?

The next reason for Margaret cheating is "you don't spend a lot of time with me", "It was Mercury retrograde", "it was that time in the year", "My friend whom I haven't seen for 2 centuries just came in the city for a day" etc.

Brother you have to let go of this stupidity as soon as possible. Yes, it hurts, and you love her, so it hurts more. But you can't go back. She betrayed your trust, that is forever. Next time she gets a flat tire maybe she will fuck the tow truck driver. You have to let her go before she messes with you future not just your past. Unless you're okay with a partner who cheats on you I guess.

I’m not a great believer in ‘once a cheater, always a cheater’, or that redemption isn’t possible, but the stated [i]reasons[/i/] I mean, come on.
Like, idk if one relocated for work and basically fucked off for a year or something, I mean not a license to cheat but, at least understandable.
It’s also a 7 month relationship, not a 7 year relationship. If you’re fucking around in the (relatively) easy infatuation period where the sun shines out of both of your respective arses, what’s the long term look like when those glasses are off?
There would also be something somewhat poetic if OP and Ruby do hit it off, given one of Margaret’s excuses for cheating was a complete inability to deal with the idea he had a female friend.
Something similar happened to me back in the day, minus the cheating. My then-partner pissed me off that much with her neuroses over me having a female friend I was close to that I got sick of it, and ended up with the friend. Which wouldn’t have happened but for insufferable levels of jealous and outbursts, as otherwise she was pretty great, but jealousy of that kind just isn’t something I really understand or can deal with if it’s pronounced
