Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
I think its interesting to see tvz evolve with the latest GSTL matches (talking specifically about Alive's games).
Even tho I feel the latest zerg buffs unbalanced the matchup, it is nice to see some pros making the best of it.
The KR scene in general seems lively, with KESPA joining the sc2 scene, many teams getting new sponsors, and ST getting whole new teams. I seemed to have missed the "crossover" games that people keep talking about, anyone got a link?

High Templar Feedback/Storm counters both T3 options as well as T1 options from Terran.
How would TvP lategame look with Feedback not working vs Massive?
I don't know that Feedback would change much versus Battlecruisers, given that I rarely see anyone make them - and when I do, they're usually pretty crap anyway. Sometimes they can accomplish things in TvT but even then the last time I saw anyone make them it was in a GOMTV game and they got jacked by mass vikings.
Thors, on the other hand, might be a lot more useful if they couldn't get instagibbed by Feedback, but you're still dealing with the whole, "Mech isn't great vs P" problem where you have to split upgrades. So... I guess the answer is that I don't see this nerf doing much.
I have a question myself. I keep hearing about the KESPA players doing SC2 games, but when I see their games half the time they're in super poor quality YouTube videos, such as this one (Jaedong holding a 10 pool from Soulkey - which actually hurt my eyes to try and watch. Is there a subscription like GSL that I can get to find good quality Kespa vids - or for that matter, is there even a Kespa equivalent to Gomtv's website? A large part of the value I get from my GSL subs is the fact that it's very very easy to pull up vods in order on their site, in [decent, not great] video quality.
Feedback not instagibbing Thors could create a dynamic of Thor meatshields (take no splash, Immortals suck vs barracks units lategame, etcetc) in which MMMGhostThor would be the lategame mix this the MMM dps'ing behind massive Thor HP.
500HP thors could do this, 300HP Thors, not so much... And dont forget you cna get up to +3 vehicle Plating this way!
Anyone know who is the current EU rank1 gm? His account does look like its smurf and he has insane improvement rate troughout seasons. He never plays custom games only ladder. Its so strange account :X. Any ideas?
lategame terran with MMMVG+tanks does not equal the other races maxed T3 armies but we still get forced into playing it. mostly because mech is not viable during the early game, due to its imense gas cost, thus forcing bio play which doesn´t transition smoothly into mech play since you need separate upgrades and production facilities.
-to efficiently play mech on 2 bases you need atleast 3 factories with 3 addons and an armory. that is 500 gas just for infrastructure and you havent even gotten any units out at this point.
-you dont have an appropriate mineral dump. hellions are nice to have but they dont win battles. getting marines to support your mech play does only work for the very early stages of the game when marines can be effective without any upgrades. after that, they become a liability because upgrading them does cut into our gas.
if there is a patch coming, I would like to see it, either slightly reducing the gas cost and build time of factories, or greatly reducing the gas cost of armories.
Is anyone else not able to log in or find match right now?
I got out of a ladder game and then I got that swirling thing in the middle of the screen, and it wouldnt go away. So I logged out and now I cant get past the screen where it says enter.
Hope I`m not the only one or you guys know how to fix it.
Edit*** So apparently its only on my main account. Does this mean I am banned or something? I cant think of a reason I should be banned.

I think the only tournament with KeSPA players so far was the 8-man MLG KeSPA Invitational back at MLG Anaheim. Besides that, they've so far only played Proleague, and will play the upcoming (not sure if there'll be a stream) OSL Qualifiers.

Without any hard evidence to support it, I've always felt as though console FPS's had the worst BM mainly because of the demographic they attract. I have certainly seen some pretty serious DOTA BM's/Rages though
So, with both NASL, Dreamhack and Homestory won by foreigners, do you think that we're seeing a more level playing field between the foreign scene and the Korean one?

I tried this and watched it closely in an AI match to check if it hasn't been changed in anyway and am not seeing much of a difference. This could be interesting as well, zerg would force the enemy into moving, the fungals wouldn't neccessarily even have to hit as forcing the enemy into unfavorable positions could be better for flanks.

Hey there, I lurk a lot and was looking for a thread on HotS to comment on some ideas but couldn't find one. I hope this is the right place.
I had an idea regarding the proposed Ultralisk changes in the multiplayer. Now, of course we haven't as a community had a chance to play the game yet, but as I understand things the burrow-charge ability is being considered as a means of allowing Ultralisks to close in on kiting units (esp: Terran). As an added effect, it disrupts positioning and randomly moves the units it erupts under within a certain radius of the eruption point. The last part of the ability I think is potentially problematic, but I'm going to ignore it as no one has really had a chance to play it yet.
If the problem is that the Ultralisk has issues with pathing and being able to close on units wouldn't a simpler solution be to alter the pathing of the Ultralisk in a manner similar to the way the Colossus is able to move over units? If the Ultralisk were able to walk over/through units such as Zerglings/Banelings and possibly Roaches and Hydras it would allow the unit not to get stuck on smaller units, fit better with it being as massive as it is supposed to be, and it would still be able to hit given it has a range of 1 so that it can attack over other melee units. It wouldn't entirely solve the issue of kiting but it would help the Ultralisk gain positioning on armies if the Zerglings/Banelings were able to swarm over their feet and not block the Ultralisk or vice-versa.
I'd like to get some thoughts on this, especially if it's been proposed before, or to have it moved to its own topic if it warrants.
Give ultralisks a charge move like zealots (with an upgrade) that paths through units. Ultralisks would be really OP if they could walk over everything. Right now really the only bad thing about them is that they can't chase at all and their pathing is horrible. When they actually connect it's devastating. Leenock VS. MKP in the IGN team league I think? He was wiping out swathes of marines!

This is a question that has probably been asked a hundred times before, but I've searched on the forum, Liquipedia and Battle.net without finding an answer, and I hope you can be patient with another noob. I'm in Silver league and my division name is Colossus Beta. I've heard that divisions of a league are "harder" and "easier", with more skilled players in some. According to Liquipedia, divisions are ranked with numbers, but mine has a name. Liquipedia also shows tiers in Diamond league with different letters, but I can't find anything like that. I'm just curious, is there a way to find out whether or not I'm in a higher or lower silver division? Does it actually mean something?
And I'm really happy that I just hit silver. It probably doesn't seem like much for you experienced players but I finally feel like I have some sort of progress

User was temp banned for this post.
Because while terrans seek to avoid confrontation with protoss melee units they have to move backwards, the only way to still do dmg while doing this is when you stutterstep, or simply move backwards inbetween volleys. Protoss however is seeking the head on battle, because their melee unit, the zealot, is very powerfull if it can reach its target.
In later battles however you will often see the terran prefering to spreading rather than stutterstepping. This is to negate aoe dmg and maximize dps as terran ranged units benefit alot from a good concave.

While i've never gotten into online console fps, that seems pretty believable when you take into account your point heh. From my own personal experience, i'd have to say the MOBA community can definitely be harsh at times. No tolerance for beginners which stems from the fact it is designed to be a heavily team based game I guess.
I don't play a heap of ladder, but when I do, I generally find most people to be mannered or simply lack any bm (SEA). Also a few days ago, I had a guy compliment me when I won a game fairly convincingly on the NA server, maybe I just attract friendly people..
So does anyone know why DRG just completely fell apart in the semi-finals last night? They were some of the saddest games I've seen in a while :\
My best theory I can think of is that Genius's absence is making him weaker against Protoss and may also contribute to a lack of friendly but competitive motivation...
I have been following SC2 for a while now, but still do not understand how GSL works...and yes, I have read many times the TL wiki and still don't get it.
Ok, basically my knowledge of GSL is this.
-Its the biggest/most prestigious tournamentin SC2. Biggest prize pool also. -the Seasons...I dont understand this, I checked TL wiki and it says from january to june 2012 alone, there are 3 seasons... how long is each season? And how long is the break between each season? -I thought MKP was in Code A? So, I checked the wiki and it says he is still in code S? WOw confusing ><
- How does one get promoted/demoted to code S/A respectively? - I am just confused with how GSL works.......I see the past winners of GSL like Nestea, MVP, DRG, etc. When is this? If there are 3 seasons in january to june alone, so the winner of each season can be declared "the winner of GSL"?

Thank you so much. I hope to understand soon.
1. The seasons run about 2 months long. The break between seasons is only usually a week long or so.
2. A player is considered Code A or S depending on where they end the season. Since Marineking began the season in Code S, he isn't considered to be in Code A unless he ends the season in Code A, by failing in the up and down matches.
3. Think of Code A and Code S in the GSL as one big tournament as opposed to two separate ones. They are very similar to winner's and loser's brackets in foreign tournaments, the difference is that someone who begins a season in Code A can never win the Code S championship that same season, the highest reward that a Code A player can earn is being promoted to Code S. You can be promoted in two ways.
The first way is that you win all of your matches in Code A and advance past the round of 24. The 12 winners from the round of 24 in Code A automatically advance to Code S.
The second way to get promoted to Code S is by placing first or second in the up and down match groups. To qualify for the up and down matches you need to simply make it past the first round of Code A. Your position in the tournament prior to making it to the up and down matches determines your seeding for grouping purposes.
As far as demotions go, the only people guaranteed a spot in Code S in consecutive seasons are those who make it to the round of 8. Everyone else that is eliminated from the Code S tournament falls to varying levels of the Code A tournament depending on where in the tournament they were eliminated.
It is possible to fall from Code S to Code B if someone loses in the first round of both tournaments back to back.
It is a pretty confusing format at first but you get used to it. This flow chart helps a lot to understand it.
4. We are currently in Season 3 of GSL 2012. GSL ran all through 2011 and late 2010 also. The seasons were shorter back then as the tournament followed a different format from the one currently in use. Despite the format changes, the rule still follows that once you are a champion of GSL you are always a champion of GSL. the format changes don't diminish your accomplishment.
So, when fruitdealer, nestea, MC (?), MVP, DRG, all won their GSL titles, what does it mean? IS it just simply them winning a season, does not matter which one? Each season is just as prestigious as the other seasons right? There is no one big season where the winner can be declared GSL champion? Basically to be called GSL champion you just need to win Code S in any season, right? if that is the case, there can be many many GSL winners in 1 year?

Correct.
The community doesn't usually attach more prestige to different seasons, although most of us consider recent championships more relevant than older ones when comparing the skill level of current players.
But like I said before, once a Code S champion, always a Code S champion. There are multiple GSL winners in 1 year the same with every major tournament event.
It helps just for conversation purposes to know which GSL season a player won their title, but it isn't really all that important. The achievement is such a huge accomplishment that the title of champ or former champ follows the players wherever they go.
I am wondering where I can find large quantities of replays featuring protoss players. These need to be masters or above from this patch. As a recent unemployed college graduate it is definitely time to start playing starcraft II again, and I want to get a feel of what is going on in this game without playing a shitload of games first. If anyone wants to send me a pack that is cool too

I'm giving it another 2 months before there's a big shake up and iNcontrol is shown the door as captain/coach.

I really doubt it. What Incontrol might lack as a player he more than compensates as a caster/personality. It'll be a long time before Incontrol is cut from EG. Plus, EG's results haven't been phenomenal, but they've still been quite good. Not to mention players are supposed to have dips in performance -- nobody can play great forever (Flash excluded).

I would like a GM for 2v2 though. I could actually get in ^_^
On another note: My liquibet seems bugged. Sometimes it votes for the player in the next match. For instance, today I wanted to vote for Curious against Creator, but ended up voting for MMA O.o Has anyone else experienced this?
How come there is no countdown to the TSL on liquipedia like other tournaments have paid to have there. Can liquid not afford to advertise on it's own site? Discuss amongst yourselves..
I'm trolling with the speculation, but seriously I think it would look pretty up there..I see no reason for TSL not to be up there :-/

Day 9 puts that on his site for new dailies. day9.tv Looks like he didnt do it for all his old ones (i don't blame him, most of those replays are probably long gone) Basically you should watch more recent dailies, the metagame was a lot different for daily 399. It's already daily 483 tonight i think.. anyway
Once you download a replay, if you haven't changed your default folder for replays. put it into documents/starcraft 2/accounts/######/1-S2-######/Replays

Also, I'd like to ask a pretty simple question, if anyone knows: has ActionJesuz officially retired from Starcraft? Even if he 6/7-pooled every game at DH Winter 2010, he still had to fight through a 64-man BYOC qualifier to get to group stages, so I assume he was at least decent at the game; yet he appears in neither of the brackets for the WCS Denmark Qualifiers.
This leads me to believe he either (a) did not want to try for WCS or (b) had quit.

I think October is when everybody switches to SC2 fulltime IIRC.
I might finally start playing SC2. I played a few games with a diamond(?) league friend, almost won 2 or 3 of them.
So I kinda know how to use Terran. I heard T is considered imba now. Should i just learn+mass game on just one build? Or is this practice method less effective than it was in BW?
Hey guys, I'm not really sure where to put this, so I guess I'll put it here. Sorry if it's wrong.
The GSL sponsor, Monsieur J, is a skin and hair company. I want to buy their soft wax hair product to support the company that supports StarCraft, but the entire website is in Korean and I don't really know how to go about navigating the site, or if they will even ship to me in California.

The way I see it, if you pay around 40 dollars for SC2 now and (hypothetically) 30 dollars for HOTS when it comes out, that's only 10 dollars more than the bundle will likely cost. Even if it's 20 dollars more... twenty extra dollars for a couple extra months of sc2 is definitely worth it imo. Also will increase your odds of getting in on the HOTS beta.
And, knowing blizzard, it could definitely be a while before HOTS even comes out

Both Naniwa and Sase were in Korea but went to Sweden for the Nordic Nationals so I can't see why it would be a problem. Even if he had chosen to skip Nordic Nationals, what has he done as a player in 2012? Has he played any major tournaments?
I was at MLG Columbus, IPL in Vegas and in Anaheim - just did not do well in any of them (did.... "OK" at IPL I guess). Not worth going to WCS if you aren't likely to win.
If you played Terraria and gotten to hardmode, and go the the corruption, you'll find monsters called "Corruptors". The way they attack is really similar to our zerg corruptors. I wouldn't say the two look alike but see for yourself:

I haven't kept up with it but the paid name change was never implemented right? You can change your name once for free but not at all afterwards correct?

Blizzard still hasn't implemented paid name changes, but I think that the official word is that it's coming Soon™. IIRC there have been two free name changes, but I don't think that they stacked. Meaning, if you've never used a free name change, you only have one. If you used the first free name change, you get another.
Is there any estimate on when Heart of the Swarm is due? Why would they tease us with being able to play at MLG and see all the new units (prior to probably some being nerfed or eliminated, etc) and stuff and not announce the beta soon after? I haven't seen any public news on like IGN or something like that about it, but I wondered if anyone else maybe had an idea of when the beta might happen?
What if siege tanks could attack while moving? It's just an idea I came up with some time. It makes sense from a realism perspective and I think it might make mech more viable in TvP because tanks would be able to kite immortals and back away from chargelots. It would also make being caught unsieged less of a big deal because you could retreat while attacking at the same time. I'm not sure how this might affect balance but I'm curious on any opinions.
My 1v1 rank is actually silver but it is saying platinum on my profile summary?? When I search for a 1v1 match I do play against silver opponents. Just wondering if this may be a bug or if its some new way of placement? Also note that this is my first season playing sc2.
What the hell do people do in TvZ nowadays? Is being aggressive before you have a third really all-in vs queenspam hiverush builds? Have there been some recent development in Korea that has made the matchup better, or are Terrans winning games because of horrible decisions by the Zerg?
Why do I keep seeing replays of zergs delaying their third in favor of faster speed / evos? If 6 minute thirds with queenspam are perfectly safe, why bother doing anything other than that or roachbane?
Am I the only person not having problems with my SC2? Played probably 20 2v2's yesterday, and besides the occasional frame lag (during major battles) I haven't really noticed a problem.
if somebody has a sc2 account and he does not use it anymore or he does not need it send the email and the password at the ishouldnotbedoingthis@gmarshalcensorship.net (i need an europa account). thx for helping.
Unfortunately, there isn't really a cookie-cutter opening to do that specifically, but there is an all-in by ROOTDestiny that is pretty good at denying initial damage...but it's an all-in, so haha not the best macro opener. I'd say the best opener (assuming economy is still important) would be a 15 hatch defensive bane opening. It requires good micro but it puts you far ahead if he does pressure you early.
Make sure you are using all your overlords to make a line across the map to scout quickly and have an overlord that can scout his natural timing. This should give you a pretty good headstart to knowing what he's up to. hello TL forum, this is my very first post, so please forgive me if I posted on the wrong thread or something, but if that's the case I'd appreciate some help and guidance rather than insults.
The main reason for opening an account on this forum is because I am looking for a partner who would like to invest in e-sports, for example, I would like to collectively make a tournament where we the organizers chip in for a prize pool, I could put $150 the first time, and if I get one or two more guys to do the same, I think we could have a decent prize pool of approx $500. It does not mean this is the only thing we can do, if you have any specific good ideas on something else that could be done Starcraft-related, I could invest even more. Please let me know. Thanks.
I don't really know where to put it, so I put it here. I switched back to Protoss (Gold league) about a week ago and right now, I won against a top 16 diamond player in a PvP while having a hidden pylon in my base. It just feels so damn good.
Anyway, does anyone know when the Up&Downs for the next GSL will be announced/played? Will it be right after the Korean WCS?

here is what i think:
lategame terran with MMMVG+tanks does not equal the other races maxed T3 armies but we still get forced into playing it. mostly because mech is not viable during the early game, due to its imense gas cost, thus forcing bio play which doesn´t transition smoothly into mech play since you need separate upgrades and production facilities.
Lategame MMMVG does equal other races maxed T3. You're just wrong. maxe protoss army vs maxed terran army with ghosts to EMP. If you want to talk about Splash dmg, ghost EMP is far better than hightemplar storm. Hightemplar storm does 80 dmg at a maximum. Ghost EMP dmg 100 sheild instanly and is an AoE spell.
As for mech not being viable on 2 base.. well its a 3base strategy so whats you point. They way you play mech is that you go for hellion harrassment while you take a quick third base and then vamp up the prodction.

Been waiting for Beta information since post MLG when it was slated to come out "soon" after.
Anyway, if there's no Beta soon they're going to scrap a christmas release, if that was their intention, and be looking something more along the lines of early year 2013 imo. Any later than that and they're just holding onto a finished game. That doesn't make you money.

There are guides on how to get one all over the place. You need to buy a Taiwanese copy(they're on the same server) because for a Korean one you need a Korean social security number. If you just google "how to get a Korean Starcraft 2 account" the TL thread on it should be one of the first things on the list.

So, I just had an idea about the warhound that I wanted to share for the heck of it. I've seen several complaints, most of which I agree with, that the warhound is a boring unit that makes the siege tank a bit redundant and serves a very similar role to a marauder in that it just walks around and shoots stuff. I've also seen it argued very effectively that the warhound doesn't really bring out the best that mech has to offer (Falling's thread "In Defense of Mech" is largely about this).
So today while I was watching MLG I thought, what if they changed the warhound's heywire missile to a spell that costs energy, not sure how much, and that doesn't trigger automatically. What would happen? Could that make a difference? Players might have to save up for bursts of heywire missiles.
And then I figured, well but that still doesn't really make the warhound a good companion for the siege tank, because you could still just get a ton of warhounds and blast the protoss with heywire missiles. But then, high templar could feedback the warhounds. And maybe if they got rid of the warhound's standard attack and made it just a spellcaster, or just kept the standard attack something like the viking or goliath ground attack, that would be good. Siege tanks could clean up a smaller softened Protoss army, or act as a deterrent to that smaller softened Protoss army even if they don't actually do much shooting. The warhounds would then act as the "cannon fodder" that Falling talks about in his post.

I like this idea. I mean in honesty I liked the burrow thing but I have only had the chance to play around with it once and that was when I got to play the beta at Anaheim, but I like the idea of being able to move over units if you will. I might even make for more epic moments of ultra flanking and what not.

The chance that feedback would be removed from High Templar is very low. If they did that, they would have to give High Templar storm by default, and IMO, that is more better in all matchups late game, especially with a colossus. Protoss splash damage is just too good right now.
I want to share my sadness. I can't really play SC2 anymore. For some reason, I have started to get lower and lower FPS. When I bought SC2 a few months ago it ran fine on the same computer, right now, on the lowest settings and lowest resolution, I consistently get 1 FPS in the late game. If I aim a fungal, the army isn't there anymore when it hits. If I select my hatches, it sometimes takes a full second before I can select larvae. All I can do in late game is a-move and pray. I don't like cheesing or rushing, I want to learn the game and become good, but I can't. I keep laddering because sometimes it's tolerable, but then the lag hits and I lose. There must be some hardware fault since I've tried everything in the book, cleaning up the startup, closing all other programs while playing, defragmenting, virus scanning, even reinstalling the game. The battle.net support has answered with a few more tips but nothing has helped. I'm waiting for more replies from them but I think that my graphics card is simply broken. And I can't afford a new computer or a new graphics card.
I'm not asking for help here, I am in contact with the support. Just want to rant and be sad because I can't play my favourite game

Ghost Snipe was nerfed way to hard because it countered both T3 options Zerg has.
High Templar Feedback/Storm counters both T3 options as well as T1 options from Terran.
How would TvP lategame look with Feedback not working vs Massive?

It would be kinda funny if for no apparent reason ultralisks were given energy to cast their charge in hots, subsequently nerfing them out of existence in ZvP.

Great for Madde, for Quantic, for Sweden and potentially for Flo if she decides to move over there I really think Madde has the potential to improve and compete at a high level.
I read somewhere at some time that the kespa players were forced to use a certain set of hotkeys and keyboard layouts. Does anybody know what they were?
I have been thinking about how to best practice the most basic of mechanics. In this post I would like to hear opinions and ideas about how to fastest learn to use hotkeys and to use them fast (I am thinking about touch) and how to enhance mouse pointer speed and precision.
This is very basic for all RTS, many jobs and life in general (last two with touch). So there are many reasons to practice this and I would believe that this is something even high masters would benefit from. Though there are probably better ways for them to improve.
I also have my keyboard preferences set to grid and I have reassigned all hotkeys to be as close to asdf as possible. Even in bronze league i newer used my mouse when i could use a hotkey. Now I will put some paper in front of the hotkeys to learn not to look at them at all.
If you know of better ways to faster practice these most basic of mechanics or if you know of some better (or more fun) games/touch typing exercises please tell me. It would also be nice with a discussion about this..
