So. I have seen several Steam Sale threads over the past few months, and today I ran across another sale with a pretty high savings percentage. The issue is, I don't really know if these games are worth buying. So what does a TL member do? Right, ask TL. However, considering the "think before post" guideline, i figured, it'd cause quite some spam if there was a new thread for every steam sale of interest to anybody. This is why i am starting this collection thread:

How I want this thread to work

Whenever there is a Steam sale which appears significant in some way, I plan on putting up a short description here, as well as a poll whether or not the community would recommend getting this deal. I will also "bookmark" the page at which this specific sales discussion started in this thread, so you can easily skip all old posts right to those that concern the current sale.

Please give comments on why you would recommend or not recommend a deal if you have sound reasons! And please do not vote what you do (like "i already have it so i don't buy it") but vote what you'd recommend people to do, that do not have the game(s)!

Small disclaimer: Since i am just a human being too, i am neither all-knowing, nor always available and on top of everything. If i miss something significant, may it be either because i just didn't notice, or because I don't deem it a significant deal, but you did - please make a post! Also, i would like if there was someone who could provide me with the US prices for these sales, as i only see europe prices.

Other than the OP and comments on sales, please feel free to use this thread for stating concerns or recommendations for given sales. However I would ask you to please refrain from discussing ingame specifics, such as balance discussions for instance.

May 02 2011: EA Week: Monday: Dragon Age!

Individually Available is basically anything with the name "Dragon Age" in it for half the price it usually is, making "Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Version" available for 15€ (includes the original game, the expansion and all DLCs). I didn't inlcude the separate DLC or Dragon Age origins non-ultimate-edition because basically ultimate edition costs as much as the original game itself and includes any dlcs and the expansion set. Ambitious project - best of luck keeping it up to date.

As for the current Ubisoft pack - if you're into shooters or first person action games, do get it. Assasin's Creed and Call of Juarez are very entertaining. FarCry 2 isn't as brilliant as FC1 was on release, but it's still a good shooter. Can't comment on RS Vegas 2 since I didn't play it.

It really depends on how much you like the games.

But if you've never played them, I'd say Call of juarez (the first one) was a really fun game, I enjoyed it a lot, so the second one might be good.

Meanwhile FarCry 2 is a failure in my opinion, the first one was hundreds times better (and was also extremely difficult, I loved it)

Never played AC, but TC:RSV2 is pretty cool to play in lans with your friends

Might be rather difficult to cover, as they do those midweek madness deals every now and then, but a nice idea indeed.

I bought the pack myself the second I saw it. Just too great of a deal to let it pass by. I've actually not heard anything about Call of Juarez og Rainbow Six, but I've had my eyes on the AC series for ages and Far Cry looks pretty fun.

Amnesia is 9.99 right now, normally $20. Buy it. It's better than the stuff Ubisoft is pedaling and is one of the only games that's actually scary rather than faking it with monster closets.

(To be fair FC2 is supposed to be really interesting)

Thanks for the feedback so far, you all seem to be in line with my suspicions that this may be a good piece of work to maintain :D but well, I'll see. I hope i can keep up, after all I'm not planning on covering up every deal the offer.

I am a bit curios about the first poll so far. The majority (if you can call it that at the current state) appears to be hesitant towards the Ubisoft deal, even though the price reduction is enormous. I mean, 13€ is really not much. In my opinion, if one hasn't played assassins creed, that game alone is probably worth these 13€. I myself am only hesitant to get it because i already played AC, and i don't know if I'd enjoy the other three games.

Right now Amnesia and Bit.Trip.Beat are both 50% off, far better pickups than that ubisoft deal imo.

It's less than $13 and people are saying that you shouldn't get this deal?! Come on now, these games at the very least will get you 20 hours of playtime each, it's well worth the $13!

I just picked up the Ubisoft pack and I think for $13 it is one hell of a deal. I already own a non-steam version of AC, which imo is a terrible game (way, way too repetitive) in comparison to AC2/ACB, but I've been interested in Far Cry 2 for awhile, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood looks good, and I've played hours of TC:RSV2 before and I think it's a fantastic FPS with a really awesome cover/unlock system.

Overall for only $13 it's pretty much a no-brainer if you ask me, haha.

I'm gonna have to vote no because of this:

3rd-party DRM: One or more products in this package may use the 3rd party DRM SecuROM™.

Otherwise, the price is great.

that phrase caught my eye too. How does securom work with steam anyhow? can you only download ("install") such a game like three times without contacting customer support or what?

Personally I skipped the deal as I doubt if any of the games would really catch my interest. From what I've heard Assassin's Creed is poor compared to the sequels and the three other games just seem like your average shooters.

If you're planning on at least trying them all out for couple hours and don't mind playing mediocre action games I'd say for the price it's completely worth it.

Voted no out of personal opinion but it just might be an awesome deal for you.

From everything I've read, it seems you can activate five times - even though it's through Steam. If you hit your limit, Steam will block the game from installing again. Apparently you can contact support@securom.com and request additional activations, though there's no telling how that would turn out.

I personally wouldn't mess with DRM like that no matter how good the game was.

DRM is actually what prevented me from buying the Bioshock series. It's a shame considering how acclaimed the series is.

securerom has given me trouble in the past, it would detect that i had a virtual drive installed and refuse to operate. this was on a legitimately purchased game! (the virtual drive was to play a pirated game though...) basicly i will not buy anything that uses securerom or that star drm thing. honestly i wont actually buy anything that uses drm period anymore. but your mileage may vary.

Amnesia and Braid are both on sale. I recommend both personally, though you might want to wait on Braid because the Indie pack for charity is usually cheaper at a hot-cake (should you decide to pay less).

I invested in this deal having played none of the games before.

As for the games so far I have completed AC and Juarez.

AC was a great game albeit a bit too repetitive compared to how short it is. I loved the combat system and roofjumping, but the story is not very interesting.

Juarez have a brilliant humor, simply love that hill billy texas talk. The game is a sort of arcade shooter with nice action. If you like westerns even a tiny bit this game is enjoyable. The game is pretty short, so don't expect it to last long.

Far Cry 2 seems nice so far. The game feels very open ended, you are basicly a soldier of fortune in Africa finding ways to earn money and kill stuff with awesome weapons

Vegas 2 is bad... very bad actually. I was a fan of the first three Rainbow 6 games, but vegas is just a mindless shooter imo. Maybe it is fun in multiplayer, but the singleplayer campaign is not worth your time.

Alright, Mafia II Midweek Madness Deal is live, I added it to the OP. Please comment if you feel this appropriate: Usually, i wouldn't have added this. While 15 instead of 50 is a noticeable price drop, i wouldn't call it a significant deal, since Mafia II (to my knowledge) never got into focus of public attention and its ratings are .. less than stellar. Nevertheless i added it to see how participation on this deal would go to see if i'm right. If you think you have any valueable input on this, please let me know.

Personally, I disliked the demo of this on PS3. It just felt like a bad version of GTA with clunky gameplay and less freedom in the game world. Granted, it was only a demo version, but I got bored very easily. After the first attempt at the actual storyline/mission, I decided I was having more fun just driving around town running people over and stealing Playboy magazines from shops. I don't think I'd buy this, even for $15.
