Since I actually saw him play this build before he went to the army, I've already analyzed it and played it thousands of times (no joke)

send overlord in the probe scout path
9 overlord
IF there's a scouting probe -> 9 pool and continue overpool build
IF there's no scout in the scout path, send a drone and when it gets close CANCEL the overlord and put down hatch at 9 (1:12)
9 pool (1:51)
scout immediately to check for a pylon in your expansion - if the Protoss is cannon rushing you, you need to start a colony a few seconds after his photon cannon(s)
AT 11 you need to make a decision - if you scout a forge you make only a pair of lings to start
if there's NO SCOUT before 2:30 MAKE LOTS OF LINGS because it's gate first
14 gas (2:44)
14 hatch (2:55) - you can use the scouting drone if you found your opponent with your overlord
16 overlord

here you make a decision to either hydra, speedling, or Lair

I've timed out the Lair build and you get the extra larva at Lair if you start the gas after 2:43 and you probably won't have the minerals to start it if you start your gas earlier anyway (since you need the overlord before lair)

Interesting build order concept, thanks iopq for the explanation.

@baal, at the very least, at least he didn't spoil the result of the map.

I didn't say game 2 of what

the second game he played in this ASL was vs Mini. Been a while, didn't recall him using this build.

True but still it could have been phrased better. That said it is a good post, content wise, as often the case.

Offracing ZvP, it feels like overpool is a little weak economically at times...but with 11/12 hatchery you can get cannon rushed or probe/pylon blocked.

9 hatchery looks like you take a temporary economic setback, but can have your natural down more quickly incase you need to throw down a sunken down to defend 2 gate plays. You also have the extra larvae from the hatchery going into the early-midgame.

Seems very intelligent, possibly should be the standard ZvP? If nothing else it's worth keeping an eye on.

I agree!

The timing of the hatchery with overpool is right before 2:00 (I got it down at 1:58 but it's possible to do it faster)
11 hatch is 1:31, so you almost get TWO more drones which is huge
9 hatch is 1:12, BUT you cancel an overlord which throws away one larva (you'll get to 3 larva anyway so cancelling doesn't cost you anything anyway) - the difference with 11 hatch is 4 seconds of larva production

How do we quantify the 11 hatch vs. 9 hatch difference? Your 9th drone mines 19 seconds more (which is less than 24 minerals because it mines the worst patch we have). Your 10th drone mines at half speed unless you do the juggling trick. It pops out at around the time the hatchery starts (1:30ish?) and the 9 hatch build gets the 9th drone at around the same time. 9 hatch only starts to catch up when the hatchery is done and you start to mine the expansion patches starting from the best patch.

I'm guessing the 3rd hatchery will be later compared to 11 hatch, based on this math ~5 seconds later which means the 4 seconds you gained at the start will be a wash.

EDIT: you can 14 gas 13 hatch and you're missing some money so the drones don't come out as quickly, 11 hatch is slightly more than 5 seconds in the lead, maybe 7 seconds after being 4 seconds behind so eventually more larva at the cost of being less safe
