I was playing single player and I was psyched to go and fight a Prime Evil. Then I walk in~ LOOKING FOR BAAL? And a fucking scorpion death thing hits me three times and I can't run I don't have thawings or cold resist and I die like a bitch. Yes, Duriel, you dirty motherfuck, I was looking for Baal. I can't help but snicker at this post. But don't forget the motherfucking smith, you're just minding your business, opening doors, killing skeletons when suddenly you open the wrong one and a 20foot tall bull on steroids swings out and beats you mercilessly into the ground with a hammer the size of your body. For the first time in your life, you know what a nail feels like. Then there was fighting diablo himself. The first time I watched my dad do it it took close to ~30+ minutes on a barb. I was in fourth grade and I was so scared of the game, but it was so addicting too that I stayed up way past 12. That red lightning hose just didn't seem fair back then before you learned about all the tricks. In my opinion though, fighting Andariel the first time was the worst. There's just so much adrenaline in your system because it's the first boss. She's not as hard as Duriel or Diablo but she certainly makes you try harder because with Duriel, you get charged and you're dead. With Andi you have to keep running because a voluptuous spider demon (reminiscent of kerrigan) is chasing you around a pit of dead bodies. Cinematics scared me as well, like when the wanderer finally turned into diablo, ripping through his own flesh. The portal of screaming faces, mephisto.

I hate Duriel so much. Freeze, stun and a REALLY small area to fight in. He just laughs at you as you desperately run around for your life.

i think my scariest moments playing d2 was act ii. part of it was the lighting, part of it was the massive armies that you can get urself trapped within, part of it was the gay claw vipers blocking level entrances and stun fuck u to death, part of it was gay ass lighnting bolt enchanted beetles. the act 2 cinematic of tal rasha was also quite chilling to see.

And yeah, in Act 4 in D2, in the Plains of Despair (seriously, wtf? No one ever goes here except to get Izual quest. Otherwise you just go to River of Flame WP) there are wooden stakes with bodies strapped to them, and they're called Forsaken Souls or something like that. Kinda disturbing. Also, isn't this the main issue with D3? A lot of people are complaining about the new design scheme, and opponents are kind of setting up straw men, saying the argument's just "I DON'T LIKE THE COLORS!!!!!" The atmosphere that D2 had wasn't just in the monsters, it was in the environment collectively, and that's what I'm not seeing in D3. I hope they make the surroundings and plot that much more creepy, and don't just leave it as "oh noes, monsters are here!"

But I remember one - at the door to first act's boss there's a pile of blood with disfigurd bodies.

One of my favorite atmospheric details reside in the River of Flames. Sometimes you'll see a skeleton try to crawl it's way up the side of the rock, trying to escape the flames, only to be violently pulled down again.

IMO i love diablo2 and will love diablo3 but something about classic diablo is just totally oozing with exactly what diablo and/or dark fantasy should be. It would be nice to see them capture some of that in diablo3, as i feel some of it was lost in 2. Not to say 2 isn't without its places but agh... loved myself some classic diablo as a kid.

Also, looky at how different the game was during its beta stage: MULTIPLE GOLEMS! I haven't been following DIII, so I'm hoping someone can confirm this for me: was that death part of the video or will something like that always happen when you die? If so, damn... for the first time in my history playing the Diablo games I'll actually look forward to dying.

I really hope that Blizzard won't do some faggy shit like making D III PG-13... bnet 2.0 is bad enough, but PG-13 would really kill it. To me it looks like that boss has some sort of special ability, which enables him to kill the players in that way. Looks very interesting, indeed.

That entire area was completely left out. Shame considering the great job Blizzard did with setting the nostalgic atmosphere in Tristram. That was player dieing, so I suppose there will be some kind of animation for bosses, after all - were in year of 2010.

I thought it WAS pretty creepy, actually. Of course the backgrounds is not very graphic as in D2, but the enemies explode and spatter blood, that is pretty creepy if you ask me. Also the cultists making sacrifices to summon demons was kind of creepy too.
