Damn Diablo was a scary game. I used to get creeped out playing it alone in my basement sometimes. I can't believe I was allowed to play that when I was like 10 ..

Dungeon Siege, Titans Quest, Torchlight, Fate, etc. etc. The initial screenshots for D3 don't look that great and Blizzard North (original core of guys behind Diablo and D2) left Blizz long time ago. Let's hope for the best though~ Well, the Blizzard North guys went ahead and made Hellgate London. I honestly don't think losing them could be bad in any way :p .

Now reading this thread, I had started playing again, USWest Hardcore Ladder. It's been about.. 3 or so months since I've last logged in and I've only lost 2 mules which probably had nothing important in them but O_O I think I might start playing again. Man I feel ashamed that I never played D1, just D2 Expansion. I should give it a try ^_^

Not sure what prompted the more colorful, cartoony look, but it seemed unnecessary. I suppose experimentation is good though. I actually really liked the D2 settings, especially how they contrasted with eachother. You'd have this bright desert, blazing sun with vultures swarming over the place and then descend into a dark tomb. I may remember incorrectly, but I believe it's been said about D3 that you'll be starting out in a world where there isn't that much corruption or evil and then it'll slowly get worse and worse, and I'm quite fine with that. It leaves more of an impact if you have a reference to something beautiful and then see it defiled. It's not like the entire game is going to be rainbows and carebears and Dr.Snuggles. This appeals to me greatly. Although it was the same in D1 and D2 too, but that is a really great way to build the atmosphere.

With all of the pentagrams, the hero losing his mind it was insane. Nicely put together thread by OP. The epilogue to D1 is creepy as hell when you think about it. It's not as visceral as the Butcher or the dungeons, but my god is it ever cerebral.

Just because there are badly drawn dead bodies in it doesn't make it scary. Here's a dead body: o--- ----< No arms!

The only 'fuck, that was scary' moment I had was when I was fighting Mephisto for the first time and he shot that ice ball that took off half my health. Other than that it was a shit game.
