I have always found myself debating with friends that Diablo was always in my opinion, a better game then Diablo 2. From what I have seen with Diablo 3, I am not sure how I feel about the game. I have been planning on writing a blog on Diablo, Diablo 2, and Diablo 3 but been too lazy. But still, I do miss playing the original Diablo at times. I had so much fun playing that game. Especially duping.

Anyone remember the days of Item duping?

Yes. It's been about 13 years, but for the first Diablo I remember the technique where you would throw down some gold and have to click the item in your inventory at the same time you pick up the pieces of gold and the gold would turn into a duplicate of the item in your inventory.

For Diablo 2 duping got really out of control, friends and I would have like 10 mule accounts strictly dedicated to duped items. I remember going into private games and the ground of the Rogue Encampment would be littered with dupes.

I really hope Blizzard can find a way to prevent duping for D3. Some of us have fond memories of duping and hording all the best items, but in the end it really only hurts the game and ruins the economy.

The duping in Diablo that I did used potions and not gold. But there was one problem with duping, you cannot have the duped item and the original on the ground at the same time. One would vanish (since they are identical in coding).

Yup. Diablo 1 cannot be beat in the series for most DARK game. Diablo 2 was a good follow up (loved the game) but the dark Diablo feel goes, hands down, to D1. The upcoming D3, a lot of people feel, is going to have a more cartoony feel--which is not a good thing.

Holy shit I've been playing this game for like the seventh consecutive year and I haven't noticed some of those things. Probably because the game today is pretty fast-paced, no one goes through the game anymore and just looks for rushes and waypoints to progress through with their char. Hell, a g-rush could probably take any character from the start to the end of the game in well less than one hour. I remember the better days where everyone partied up and used shitty items they picked up legitly

D2 is an ugly game, cant even tell what some of the stuff is on the highest graphic setting, D1 was far more atmospheric and creepier. Even scary in many ways with all the Satanic symbolisms that are all gone in D2 (pentagrams, upside down crosses, etc)

Goddamnit I just read through this entire thread, and it makes me REAALLLYY wanna play D1 and D2 again. But I can't because school starts on Monday

Also, what was up with that gameplay video? The ritual where they sacrificed some people to summon some crazyass monster with huge weapons was pretty cool. But that monster sucked. It would swing those bigass polearms at the barb and the barb wouldn't even get hurt. The Butcher? Holy fuck he'd take you out in 2 hits. Maybe the barb was overleveled just so they could show off the moves without worrying about getting killed, but still... you don't wanna make your enemies seem like pussies. I wanna fight fuckin demented hellspawn.

yeah D1/2 was somewhat creepy the first time I played it, which was in the mid 2000s I think..
However, playing Doom 3 around the time I played Diablo made D2 look like a walk in the park with the gore and horror and satanic-imagery;
I remember my brother refused to watch me play Doom unless the lights were on, the sound was off and someone else was in the room with us lololol

All the Diablo artwork and the lore and the concepts behind them were extremely dark and horrific if you think about it; the thing that made Diablo less creepy (than what it could have been potentially), was the unrealistic game physics and the large amount of focus devoted to items and gameplay and shit. Voice acting for some of the NPCs could have improved too.

Sadly, I doubt the old Diablo with it's environment of horror, gore, and satanic imagery will return in D3; it's not that Blizzard can't recreate it, but the game would probably be more successful with a larger market if they included shit like rainbows and ponies. I mean, just look at WoW and all those other RPG games nowadays; the days of gore and horror are gone, replaced by pink elves and fluffy bunnies.
