What i really like about the trailer is that it seems like they make the stormtropers look more elite. In the old one they were shown as guys who cant hit shit and loose with heavy armor and walking tanks against koalas. But in this drop ship (i guess) shot they look more serius more dangerous and just more badass. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lando_Calrissian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temuera_Morrison http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Mace_Windu
Off the top of my head.
edit: Star Wars even had gay robots, it is a far from excluding.

The lightsword was dumb looking. It was basically an attempt at Darth Maul 2.0 for all the kids to go woooaaahhh except it's not even as cool as Darth Maul's dual saber (and I hated the prequels) because it's just these two little things sticking out the side...
I didn't like the voice over, how it was done and the words they used, but maybe there'll be more context or maybe that's just for the teaser.
I'm also wary of the Falcon scene(s), I know it's JJ Abrams but I'm still hoping it won't be too flashy and JJ Abrams-ey. What I'm talking about, now that I look at it a second time, is the "blur" effect. Some people will notice it, some will not. But I like to see what's going on in the action scenes. The classic star fighter action scenes were fast paced and chaotic (Episode 6 final battle) but you could tell what was going on and your eyes weren't out of focus and the camera wasn't doing weird interpretive dance/dance of birth angles (maybe I'm just getting old).
I liked seeing the pilot in the X-Wing, I love that camera shot.

And Jackson was just such a waste... i mean why not make him the bad guy imagine what a motherfucking badass sith he would have been.
How on earth was Lando racist?
God and I forgot Samuel L Jackson was even in Star Wars. Curse you all for making me remember that character and those movies...

Still, I'm wagering it'll be better than the prequels.

Considering the utter trash that was the Star Trek franchise when it came to recent movies and shows, fun and well done action movies were probably just what they needed. Star Wars I think will fit Abrams really well.

You will wake up in a world one year from now where the prequels will be praised for not being as shit as VII. Plotholes... in a teaser... when we don't even know the name's of the characters.
You can quote me in a year.

Either it's an easter egg or just reusing old props laying around in the studio, but notice that is Darth Maul's lightsaber hilt

I love x-wings but isn't this movie set 30 years after Return of the Jedi? Those things must be antiques because I thought they were old in the original movies. Love the trailer though, I am glad it isn't giving away the plot or anything, and even with my earlier question I love that x-wings are in it.

Yes, but what if, they're using them as practice for rookie pilots? Or maybe it's a simulator. Who knows?

That's not entirely unreasonable if they have a good design. F16's still see active use and yet they are over 30 years old. Even when there are newer designs, it sometimes takes a long time to switch over, particularly if there is a prolonged period of peace (relatively speaking- as in not requiring to switch to a war economy like WWII.)

Oh also, the stormtroopers had scopes on their rifles. Pretty sure that alone could be the explanation for why they're still there 30 years later. Accurate stormtroopers...scary thought.

Yup, reminds me how most of the U.S. armed forces are still using the M16 (many different variants exist) as the main assault rifle, but are slowly transitioning to the M4.

Maybe technology has reached a plateau in regards to starships. The reason I saw X-wings as being old in the original movies (aside from lack of special effects) was because the Alliance was pretty limited in resources, and couldn't afford to keep investing their time and finances into upgrading/buying new technology.
If the EU hadn't been declared non-canon, there were a few reasons I could have listed as to why the fighter was still being used, in the spoiler tag (short story; X-wings are SC2 Marines of Star Wars):
+ Show Spoiler + -The X-wing being that much superior to Imperial fighters (Fei Hu campaign before New Hope, where 286 TIE fighters were shot down, and only like 4 or 5 X-wings lost over the course of months); it could even compete with later TIE Interceptor models -Prestige. The only ship variant (aside from the Falcon) to play a critical role in destroying the Death Star twice (this one is movie canon, but just decided to stick it here) -The iPhone of starfighters. Constantly received updates instead of developing newer ships, which makes sense; why invest so much money on new ships when you can just tweak your existing ones to fit your needs? -Versatility. Its specs allowed it to maneuver almost as well as an A-wing, and its loadout could be customized to compete with the Y-wing's firepower. It was also far more durable than the A-wing, and less vulnerable than Y-wings.
That being said, in the Legends/EU universe, the E-wing was supposed to replace the X-wing, but never really did due to glitches and faulty astromech droid support.
Essentially, canon or no canon, it's a mentality of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Is it just me or is that Wedge Antilles in the cockpit of the X-wing?

Brief thoughts: the trailer told me nothing other than it's Another Star Wars film, CGI looked kinda meh, that lightsaber was dumb.
I get it, I get it, it's a short trailer and it's basically gonna be a movie for kids anyway. I'm wary though.
Now if Abrams would get Benedict Cumberbatch involved I'd be all over it. That significantly improves his success rate in my book.
|
Also, note that the hilt on the lightsaber activates a little bit after the main blade. Maybe it's like with Darth Maul in Episode 1. He fought Qui-Gon on Tatooine with only one blade IIRC, then turned on both when it was Qui-Gon together with Obi-Wan.
Also, why so much Tatooine? One of my biggest problems with Episode 4 was that like half the movie was on Tatooine. Didn't feel like a galaxy. One other planet mentioned, one seen (and destroyed), and a moon we're on for five minutes. I really hope we can see other worlds, especially those we haven't seen in the first six films.

For me personally the trailer managed to get me excited and make me feel like a kid. It raised a lot of questions but that's not necessarily bad. I liked it
