So, here's the deal. I work at a newspaper as proofreader like 60%, and I play poker on the side. Enjoyed doing that very much for years, did decent money. Then I started to dislike poker, and that became a problem, because I just can't work 100%. No judgement if you can, I just can't, I need to have a life I can't only work, that's a me thing. As poker was beginning to feel like work, I was working two jobs for more than 100%, and that's not really something I can do.

So I ended up playing less poker, and now I don't really make money. I usually have a little less money every month, it's close but I'm losing a little.

So this is a post about why I'm kind of okay about getting fired at my newspaper, which just happened yesterday, they fired all proofreaders. My arrangement didn't really work for me anymore.

I'm considering only playing poker, at like 60%, even though I don't enjoy it. If I can get enough money from doing it, I have this spare time that is the most important thing for me, and I think that would make the whole thing bearable. I would set myself some fixed limit on lowest amount of money I have to my name, probably like 100k or something, and if I go below this, I'll look for some other job at 60%. It's risky and it's probably not advisable, but I'm pretty sure if I don't try it I'll always wonder if I should have. So, there we are, pretty sure I'm going for it.

I think it is a good idea. Sounds like you have the cash to take the risk, and right now seems like a good time.

Otherwise, like you said, you will always wonder.

I'd say go for it with the only caveat beeing, I don't know if/ who else is depending on you making money.

Otherwise get a job where you can play onlinepoker at. Like nightwatch at a parking lot or sth

anything you do for a consistent, steady, ongoing profit stream will eventually start to feel like work. that's just the way it is man.

I assume live PLO? I haven't studied it myself but my impression is that if you know like 5 things you have an edge on 90% of the field

In Switzerland it's non-existent so not really; maybe once adults have power in the US again and I can get back to Vegas I'll give it more of a shot.

Vegas has become kind of a tourist trap hell hole. I'd recommend checking out casinos in areas you'd already want to visit, like Parx by Philadelphia, some of the Connecticut spots by NYC, maybe Atlantic City if you want a "boardwalk experience" (though tbf it is also going the way of Vegas IMO).

Will have to admit that Vegas is a great place to have a base of operations to visit all the national parks in the surrounding ~3 hours of driving though.

Vegas has become geared towards super rich people and that’s about it, from what I’ve read. Seems to be where the world is heading anyways.

Good luck Nebuchad, be careful with your bankroll. It’s easy to go broke.

If you figure out there is no fun in it, you are clearly smart and resourceful enough to find yourself a satisfying job.
