The guy in the clip could be the replacement actor perhaps.

Frankly I would be impressed if they found a way to make a worse interpretation than the prequels.

As for the sword. First, mission accomplished it got people talking. Second, I agree that something needs to explain the part of the hilt that looks exposed (exclusive materials/recipe/crafter could explain a uniqueness. Valerian steel style) Thirdly, are people serious about the 'danger'?

Having spent some time at the wookipedia there is some potential explanations for how the hilt material that would fit within the world.

Also, why so much Tatooine? One of my biggest problems with Episode 4 was that like half the movie was on Tatooine. Didn't feel like a galaxy. One other planet mentioned, one seen (and destroyed), and a moon we're on for five minutes. I really hope we can see other worlds, especially those we haven't seen in the first six films.

They did saber activation thing for effect.

Ep 4 was on Tatooine because that's where it starts :p there's no real reason to go to other places, but you'll probably get what you want with abrams doing this one.

Even still, it's mostly focused around the Lars homestead, and then we get to see Mos Eisley at the very end. You're right that there's no real other reason to go places, and I can't think of a way to redo the plot to remedy that without significantly changing it.

The closest I can come up with is what Adywan did in A New Hope: Revisited, where the Death Star is introduced floating over some other world that isn't Alderaan.

Maybe something more subtle, or hints to a more populated world. I'm not saying Coruscant should have been introduced in Episode IV, but maybe some sort of mention of a lesser Imperial world in passing, and then a few scenes happening on that world later in the trilogy. Like a glimpse of at least what the average Imperial Joe does in this galaxy, or at least where his house is.

Maybe not Coruscant, but Naboo, is basically what I'm saying.

The trailer looks great, but let's face it, most trailers do, even when the film is a croc of shit.

Something which gives me hope for this version is that JJ Abrams is directing it, though the other screenplay writer isn't someone who seems to have much sci-fi history. If Joss Whedon had done the screenplay, I'd be salivating at the prospect.

I seriously hope they get the music score sorted this time, other than the wooden-ish acting of Hayden Christensen in the latest films, I thought the absolute killer was the bland, wish-washy music. The originals had stirring brilliant music, there can't be many people out there who have a passing interest in films who couldn't hum you the theme.

edit: In fact I know you are huming it right now.

Isn't it Lawrence Kasdan, the same guy who wrote Empire?

And wtf the prequel music was probably the greatest thing about the movies. Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, Anakin vs. Obi-Wan (I forget if that one actually has a different name), and the amazing string part that plays as Order 66 is executed, to name a few.

Yes, but what if, they're using them as practice for rookie pilots? Or maybe it's a simulator. Who knows?

They have some upgrades, according to io9. Still look the same to preserve nostalgia factors. I mean, tie fighters and the MF are still here, it wouldn't surprise me if many of the older ships have small or no upgrades at all. I want to see a star destroyer now so fucking bad.

Christ you're right. Whewn I looked into who was doing what, the wikipedia page didnt list this in the chart of his stuff, but it does say about Empire in the main block of text (note to self, read dont skim!!).

After he sold his screenplay Continental Divide to Steven Spielberg, George Lucas commissioned Kasdan in 1979 to complete the screenplay for his Star Wars sequel, The Empire Strikes Back after the death of Leigh Brackett, who wrote the first draft.

This pleases me. You won't ever be able to change my view on the music in the last three films though, I personally just didn't like it!!

I'm glad they kept the "used up" aesthetic of the original series. Looks like abrams won't disappoint on that front. Although that lightsabre... who thought that shit was a good idea?

Maybe that was the one thing George Lucas got to do as part of the deal with Disney.

Nah, he probably got to give the Sith Lord a cringy name.

Sidious, Tyranus... I'm surprised we haven't had a Darth Evil yet.

Loved the teaser.

Looks like they are going back to the "style" of the original movies. I don't think the prequels were horrible, but they didn't have that timeless charm and "re-watchability" that the originals had.

On another note, I find it completely ridiculous that so many people are "outraged" by the lightsaber design. It's a movie. Everything doesn't have to make sense. The lightsaber itself is impossible so who cares?

Can someone more knowledgeable about the lore and universe of Star Wars enlighten me as to why is the stormtrooper black? Aren't they all clones? Or maybe they're changing it so that they're not clones any more or that they are but Jango was black too?

Nevermind, I think I figured it out. He's not a real stormtrooper, just one of the protagonists dressed as one. Am I right?

I get the desire for it to make sense in the created world as someone mentioned. What I don't get is why people think the guys who are using these light sabers to block particle beams, can fight using them with the force, and so on, are going to do something as stupid as hurt themselves with their own lightsabers come on now...

As for the making sense part there was this from a previous episode. Don't know how long his armor would hold out but it clearly was enough to stop a direct lightsaber blow.

There's nothing that suggests the change between Episodes III and IV (where we see Stormtroopers of different height and obviously different looking officers), but in Battlefront II, there's an incident where the Kamino cloners rebel against the Empire, and once Boba and the Empire suppress the rebellion, more conscripts and clones of other templates are drafted into the army, and the only pure-clone outfit left is the 501st Legion.

Canonically, the boarding of the Tantive IV, one of the contingents of the Battle of Hoth, and the defense of Endor (the Emperor refers to them as his "best troops" to Luke) were all carried out by the 501st. Apparently half their number was also stationed on the Death Star, but I'm not including that because we don't know if the heroes ever ran into them. Nearly every battle involving clones that you see in Revenge of the Sith also had some of the 501st participating.

As of Episode VII, the Empire's been in disarray, so they have to take wider and wider sources of recruits to support their army. Even before the movie was announced, there were a lot of mentions on Wookieepedia about the widening variety of conscripts, to even non-humans being enlisted as Stormtroopers a hundred years after the destruction of the Death Star.

Although someone suggested (and I like the sound of this theory, EDIT: You just mentioned it too), that the black guy is actually a Rebel (or New Republic) spy.
