I'm looking for someone who would be willing to help me improve my understanding of Dota 2.

I don't mind whether you're more theory-oriented or practice-oriented, and I don't care what role or playstyle you specialize in. I'm interested in learning from different perspectives.

I don't want to take up too much of anyone's time. Ideally, we might talk once or twice a month to review games, discuss ideas, or check my progress. Casual conversations from time to time would also be appreciated. If you're willing to share your own replays, I'd be happy to learn from those as well.

For me, patience, good communication, and the ability to explain ideas clearly are far more important than MMR. Rather than simply being told what to do, I'm more interested in understanding how experienced players think, analyze situations, and make decisions.

I'm looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping others improve. I don't care much about titles or rankings. What matters to me is practical knowledge, good reasoning, and clear communication.

I also hope the connection won't completely disappear after one conversation. I don't expect constant contact, but it would be nice if you occasionally checked in on my progress or shared something interesting when you came across it. That doesn't mean we need to talk every day.

My goal is not to gain MMR as quickly as possible. I'm more interested in developing better game understanding, broader perspectives, and stronger decision-making.

I mostly play ranged heroes. I've won some matches around the 4k MMR level in solo queue (not by being carried or AFK), but I don't consider myself a 4k player. My current MMR is around 1300.

I'm not really looking for other types of advice. I know myself well enough to understand that I learn best through discussions with real people. Without that kind of interaction, it's difficult for me to stay motivated over the long term.

My English is not very fluent yet (I'm working on it), and I currently can't use voice chat. However, I don't think this is a major obstacle. We can still communicate through text, replays, videos, or match reviews. I'm only mentioning this in case it matters to anyone.
Other languages are welcome as well. Just let me know which language you prefer.
In return, I can help with Chinese language learning, translation, or cultural exchange.

If you think we'd get along well, feel free to reach out.

Good luck! Not sure what/who is active here and still plays dota, but those that were active were certainly friendly souls and reasonably high MMR.

You say you play 'mostly ranged heroes' - do you typically play a specific role, or do you hope to be versatile and play any role? It's relevant for coaching - A support main isn't likely to be able to provide feedback on how Mid works, for example.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, at the moment I mostly play a specific role. I only mentioned ranged heroes as a rough description of my current habits. To be more accurate, I think I struggle much more with melee heroes and probably lack some understanding of how they should be played.

I'm very open to playing different roles and different types of heroes. I'm very flexible and willing to learn from almost any perspective.

If someone mainly plays support and is willing to teach, then I'm perfectly happy to learn support. If someone specializes in another role, I'm happy to learn that perspective as well. The same applies to theory, strategy, decision-making, or any other aspect of the game.

My goal is not to master a small pool of heroes and gain MMR as quickly as possible. I'm more interested in building stronger fundamentals and improving my understanding of the game, with MMR gains coming as a result of that process.

if youre looking for advice on the absolute fundamentals of the game i can probably answer some questions.

mind you i havent played in about 11 years, but when i did play i competed against pros. dotas changed a lot since then but the fundamentals of the game most likely havent. especially for the level youre at, im pretty sure my old knowledge would still be relevant

Thanks for the reply.

I think fundamentals are exactly the area I need to work on most right now.

I’m not a new player, but even after playing for a while, I feel like I never really built a clear framework for understanding Dota. I often know that something went wrong, but I don’t always know what kind of mistake it was, or what I should have noticed earlier.

A lot of important systems in Dota are not clearly explained in the client, such as creep aggro, lane equilibrium, trading, pulling, map movement, and knowing when to fight or farm. How should I build a better way of thinking about Dota and actually apply it in-game?

I’m also very curious how you personally learned the game and started forming game sense. Especially when so many important things were not directly explained, how did you figure out how Dota was supposed to be played?

If you’re open to discussing fundamentals or giving some advice when you have time, feel free to PM me. I’d be happy to learn.
