There's the spoilers. Also, I'm kind of annoyed by the fact that SKT is beneath Stars and STX just because they happened to start off by playing KT instead of a team like Khan.
This thread and the community are still awesome. Now we only need analysts and writeups to give this season the hype it deserves. Anyone feeling up to the task?

I made mine, and there's one for Woongjin. Some of you should add your own, it's always enjoyable to read them if only to laugh at faulty logic.
Not much to cheer about for an OZ fan, I felt killer was looking good but in the end he lost both of his games. If he keeps playing well he'll pick up a few wins. But we need him to win in the same match as Hiya and Jaedong just to force and ace. Its looking grim.
Not a whole lot of hope elsewhere. I missed Perfectmans win I just turned off when I saw him come out and the score 3:1 asuming we lost 4:1. Don't have a whole lot of faith in him repeating this and clearly niether do OZ since the new guy Sky has been chosen over him twice. Sky didn't look completely aweful but he lost both his games. Where did he come from is he a pick up from another team?

I meant actual analysis the way we used to have it, in the ol' days where MBS was being scoffed at universally and the reason people came to TL wasn't because they could discuss the most recent day9 daily, or how race X is overpowered, or how kewl the latest Fruitdealer/IdrA/HuK music video is. I'm talking about the days where flamewheel and Heyoka wrote Battle Reports! (EDIT: I'm new, don't be too hard on me. They were a great read whoever wrote them. The articles accompanying them were beyond awesome as well.) Predictions! Indepth analysis of the maps/matchups/teams&performances! I'm a lowly subD- noob, and god how I miss all of that. Not even a liquibet or fantasy Pro League. I understand a lot of mods and writers have lots of stuff to do with the mindbogglingly large amount of SC2 tournaments and accommodating all the new members and swinging the banhammer. I can't blame them. What I can do, is request that someone who feels the same emptiness hanging over this community to try writing about the glorious start this season has had. Low standards is better than nothing whatsoever, and I bet a lot of the remaining BW community have something to say.

But TL is probably forming a new team as I am typing this so there is no need to worry.

Maybe the new coach will give Bee and Sky more chances so they can perform decently? Even though both lost their matches, in the STX Masters and recently in proleague, I wouldn't put it past them to start performing. Same with BackHo.

They'll probably get something done eventually. I'd write something if I found something worth writing about. Although I'm most inclined to write something about SKT being amazingly awesome, so if the opportunity arises, I'll do that.

I hope the news team can gather up to muster weekly reports of proleague. If they are overburdened i feel like we should find people who do it, not only for the BW community but also for all the newcomers of SC2 that might find it interesting to see from where did their game (and scene) como from.

Co-incidentally, these players stand within rubble that turns into.. a stadium! Are we going to get one just as there are going to be 10 or less people watching the games?
So I'm really disappointed in Khan and Oz for losing matches they could've and should've won. Oz had a pretty good chance at winning against KT if they sent Jesus(BackHo) against Violet instead of Lomo. Although I suppose it's forgivable since no one really expected PerfectMan to win(especially not me lololol) and Jaedong wouldn't even be the favorite against Flash(although he could still win). But Khan sending Jangbi to get crushed against Sea... *sigh* It reminds me of the slump of Bisu, except without some zergs to bail him out when he can't win, further shattering his confidence.

god it's about time T1 to take crown once again... woongjin will fall soon or later... oz has absolutly no hope... CJ has been a league power house but their line up doesn't look so promising w/o effort... KT is the only main threat... stx probly be at top for a while but they will fall eventually lol
I might be a fanboy, but I think that SK has the best chances. Of course there are no guarantees, but a look at the top 4 players elo on the teams just says: "SK will win".
The Fanta, Best, Bisu combo will normally get two wins. So SK only needs 1 more win out of 3 games to get it to ace. Now with Kwanro in the mix the opponents team might have to prepare for three races in the ace match as well. Ouch.
KHAN and OZ just look lost I'm afraid.
I first thought hite Entus would be great, but I'm not convinced anymore. How can your best player just retire? Who's left to lead? Hite's highest ranked player is Leta at rank 14(!). The next one up is Iris, who hasn't been looking great in a long time.
STX is also in trouble I think. What happened to Calm and Hero? STX have only one player in the top 30 and Kal is hardly going to be able to carry the team alone in Bo7 matches.
Sorry folks, except KT there just isn't a credible threat. And I fancy SK's chances.

Thanks for the chart. Would it be possible to have this uploaded on google docs / zoho sheets so that people can just see your update anytime they want by following a fixed URL?
And that could potentially be the "official" status update for Proleague since the current way of doing it is like 15th-century style.
God damnit, STX. Pull yourself together! On a sidenote, there must be more appealing tables there. While everything else is topnotch, the table feels a bit off. It's still tolerable, it just nags at me. Thank you for doing this in the first place, I can't really complain. We'll probably see the effect of Anytime returning soon enough, and that's going to be awesome.
Its far too early in the season to get a very accurate prediction, since team makeups/performance tend to vary as the season progresses, but if they keep this up, ACE might make the playoffs for the first time this year (also assuming we get a full season, w/ regards to the whole KeSPA/Gretech/Blizzard thing).
I wonder if Anytime can really help Oz when he gets back.

SKT bringing the hurt early on, especially with Bisu in top form <3 I hope they keep this up, need the Terrans to rally though and it will be a truly dominating year for SKT.

Honestly I'd have to say I feel pretty sorry for Snow, he has such an enormous amount of potential but his team is pretty bad right now. Had he been raised in Khan or SKT, he would've been absolutely phenomenal with such great players to learn from and practice with.

there's a little mistake in week 2 WeMade vs KT: hero's link leads to by.hero (STX), while WeMade's player is hero[jOin] aka hero[kas] http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/players/682_herO[jOin] easy to mix them up because both zerg and have the same ID
Nice to see Woongjin hold on to 2nd. Hopefully they'll take their last 2 matches with ease, and stx and can upset skt, along with a miracle performance from Oz against skt to solidify a 1st place for Stars :3!
What happened to Hiya? It was just a season or two ago when we almost named the team "Hiya Oz"... Bo7 format really emphasizes the deep teams, and KT's second stringers lost whatever temporary strength they displayed last season.
Turn really carrying Khan. Most of the key vets from the 08 winners are still here yet they all don't perform, such a tragedy.
Has MBC only used 6 different players so far? Well if Jaehoon has a winning record (so far), that's good for them.
Fantasy went from being the best player in 09-10 R5 record-wise to middling, but SKT's other stars have stepped up.

Yeah man, i thought all that practice for killer and perfectman on stage would make them BETTER than the other top b-teamers. I guess not lol OZ has potential, and that's why it's so frustrating!! if they ALL could just step it up, (beside jd obviously)
Maybe Anytime winning a game will give them a boost.
I can't believe jangbi's slump, it's ridiculous!
It's really interesting comparing performance vs predictions, my fantasy team this year would've been so bad!!! Lol
can't believe SKT is doing so well, especially since so many people think it's just a 3 man team with a bunch of scrubs; yet their scrubs have been coming through while everyone else's have been so-so.
WOW so impressive that Woongjin has so many wins even with 2 losses (meaning they made ACE set both times)...
I really hope SKT keeps up their momentum, I enjoy seeing a strong protoss in bisu for a change (we REALLY needed a protoss S class lately-_- just hope he can go up another level and knock down JD or Flash in a head to head match)
If Khan would just give their ace matches to Turn instead of Jangbi they should do a lot better actually it would be great if they could just play Turn instead of Jangbi for the rest of the season.
Anybody knows how many teams advance to the playoffs? Also, I'd be glad if OP also contained a basic text version of the standings table (I sometimes check the thread on the phone, and to conserve bandwidth, I have image loading turned off, so I have to turn it on again here, which in turn causes all the other images to load, and also is annoying. I would guess I'm not the only one, but who knows.)

Post season playoffs is top 6 teams I think.
Now that rounds 3 and 4 are WL format, will we be seeing 2 WL finals, 1 each after rounds 3 and 4 respectively or just 1 WL final after round 4?
since the bracket isn't updated i've noticed that bottom bracket has teams that seem like they don't belong there if all of these series were bo5 and not bo7
7. Samsung Khan 8. KT Rolster 9. Air Force Ace 10. Hwaseung Oz
If KT and WeMade win their games today ranks 4 till 8 will all have win ratio of 44.4%. If ACE don't lose 0-4 today they will end the round higher than Oz =S.
Poor Light, he's 3-7 because all of his opponents have been fairly strong (losses to Fantasy, Stork, FBH, Flash, Zero, Kal, Roro and wins against Jaedong, Hogil, free)
SKT is kicking ass but another round of being undefeated is very very unlikely. Sure, SKT was throwing newbies in with their usual vets but they got to Ace twice, most of their victories were 4-2 and I don't see any 4-0 victories in there. A few wrong games (Bisu won't be pulling wins out of terrible positions forever), or a bad Ace game will mean a loss so you SKT fans ought to brace yourselves now and not develop absurd expectations.
I think SKT fans should be happy enough with: -getting a record -their main trio performing very well at the same time, instead of one or two slumping -at least one SKTzerg who seems to get wins -new talent in by.Sun -good performance in R5 not being a fluke -KT's finals win over SKT looking like a fluke and most of their team sucking (for those who love schadenfreude)

On TL's calendar: Set 1: Benzene Set 2: Empire of the Sun Set 3: Central Plains Set 4: Grand Line SE Set 5: Icarus Set 6: Circuit Breaker Set 7: Aztec

Yes but problem for protoss is that central plains was so blatantly protoss favoured that only pvp's played on it so protoss' ended up sniping each other.
I have a feeling that Bisu is gonna have a field day with that map. I mean, he said the biggest trouble of PvT for him is scouting, and just look at how much work it takes to deny scouting through the edges. Easy scouting is such a protoss feature.

Wouldn't it be easily stopped if the opponent mines out the minerals on his side of the gates quickly? For that matter, why are the minerals on his side of the gate even there? (I guess one legit use might be evacuating workers from a threatened expansion, but that's very situational)

Well, I don't know how many minerals are there, if it's a 0 then yes, but if it's like 60-80 then no you couldn't. It's probably meant for scouting.

That version of Bloody Ridge to which you are referring is an older version. The new one does not have the small in-base mineral patches, among other things.
Just got confirmation from OGN caster 엄재경 that Central Plains has officially been replaced by Blood Ridge, in case there was any doubt left over in peoples' minds.

KT Rolster is lagging behind with 3 wins and 6 losses? Hoho, *evil grin*. I have officially changed my allegiance from SKT1 to Stars temporarily... because I have my reasons. Don't worry, I might be back with SKT1... or MBC! =3

that's amazing, the stars have aligned to boost SKT and Woongjin, take a dump on KT and OZ, and balance the middle. 5 teams with same wins and loses is insane.

I think it's good, makes the league more competitive for the spots in the playoffs. Making it Bo7 was a good idea. Of course I can't wait for the 2 rounds of Winner's League. Who knows what might happen then!

It seems that the proleague schedule has changed again? According to the Kespa website, STX plays MBC and Wemade plays Oz on 11th Dec. The rest of the schedule is different too.
SKT sure is trying out a lot of new players this season. A shame they had to lose one, but it doesn't look like they are beatable with FBB and the best 3 supporting players. STX got the best lineup possible and SKT was trying all of their new players and they still only barely managed to pull out a win(with a great degree of luck). Also, STX is actually doing really good. They'll probably take the 2nd place from Stars, whose free/zero seem to be slumping.

Damn fantasy build, always making things difficult for us SKT fans. No worries, SKT still has an ungodly win differential. But Park needs to stop experimenting and just go 4 toss+ fantasy+1 risk a bit more often. + Show Spoiler +
To be honest, I see hard times ahead for SKT, at least for a few weeks. The zergs probably have had their confidence crushed from so many losses and Fantasy may be down from that game against Modesty, Paralyze is unimpressive in PL, and Best is sick. For now it's gonna have to be Bisu who holds things together. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm a bit worried. It probably won't be this bad, but I expect maybe a 50% winrate for R2.
once at TLDP, Bisu vs Zero at Bloody Ridge appears as "Central Plains" with a link to the incorrect map. That's why Bloody Ridge doesn't show this VOD on its Game list.

Can anyone confirm whether or not line-ups are determined before hand? I've noticed today in the KT vs SKT1, after every match when the teams do their huddle. One Kespa ref walks over to each huddle. The coaches seems to give a piece of paper to the ref and the two refs meet in the middle of the stage, and return to the coaches giving them a piece of paper back. I'm guessing this is is their next player writen on a piece of paper, and the coaches are given a few minutes to talk over the strat with their already designated player.
I've been wondering about this because a lot of people have been saying that line-ups are still predetermined and that Kespa just withholds them until the actual match. Like the other day, reading the LR for the SKT1 vs Hite match, all the SKT1 fans were calling Coach Park a troll for sending By.Sun before Bisu and Best. But I'm pretty sure he had his reasons for sending him, and that he wasn't trolling with a predetermined line-up.

Excuse me for asking, but this has been bugging me for a while. How do you know? Because, afaik, there has been no definite confirmation either way. Rather, the fact that the coaches send in little notes before every game seems to imply that they chose during the series. But like I said, I have yet to see anyone post proof for any theory.
i think generally coaches plan out their lineups beforehand (it's better to have a player practice on 1 map for a while then all maps for a little bit), but they are allowed to send whoever they want to right before the match starts. i have no idea how that rumor started that all the lineups are exactly like it was before but they just dont publish them, but it's wrong. multiple player interviews (saying that they hadnt practiced on the map or werent expecting player X to show up) have confirmed it (as well as how it was described when the change was announced ffs).
I've been saying the same thing as Ideas for some time but many still think the line-up cannot be changed before the start of each game. Simply not true.
Anyway, this season is really too close to call. SKT had the best performance round 1, Hite seems to be having a great round 2 but who knows what will happen in Winner's League.
Afaik, it's 6 rounds set up like this: Round1: 2 weeks with 9 matches for each team Round2: 5 weeks with 9 matches for each team (round 1 would seem more stressful to me!) Round3/4: Winners league... All 10 team plays, or just the best 3/6? Round5/6: didnt we just play the winners league? Postseason: ... ehm? what's this? Grand finals: Winners of 'winners league' face somebody?

Winner's league is just a weird name for proleague rounds 3/4. They don't determine the actual winners of proleague. It's named winner's league because the format is different. It's king of the hill format so one player can play all four sets needed to win. Depth matters much less in these formats.
Postseason is the upper half of teams fighting to get to face the rank 1 team in the Grand Finals.

Winner's League is part of the regular season and possibly also its own thing as a mini competition with its own winner (which is decided with a playoff from the 2 winner's league rounds). The Winner's League rounds count towards the regular season, and are BO7 all-kill format (http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Allkill_Format) The WL results get added to all the results like R1 and R2 get added together. R5 and 6 are like R1 and 2 and everything gets added together for the final results, which then comes to play in the Grand Final. Postseason is probably going to be something like the STX Masters Cup where the teams play against each other for another trophy (last time IIRC it was bottom plays second bottom, winner plays third bottom etc until the final team left plays STX because they sponsored it, and winner of STX vs other team wins the competition). That's a secondary competition, not the main Proleague playoffs, which are decided by the Proleague Rounds 1-6 results all combined.
Winner's league is indeed where the epic all-kills and reverse all-kills happen.
Rank 1 team goes straight to the playoffs. The format last season was this, may change with team reduction though: A: Rank 6 vs Rank 3 B: Rank 5 vs Rank 4 C: Winner of A vs Winner of B D: Winner of C vs Rank 2 Grand Finals: Winner of D vs Rank 1
I've been tracking PL games this season, and I went to the extent now of pulling out team matchup records. (I'll be updating my thread at the end of the round over the New Year's weekend.) But here's a spoiler/tidbit/preview:
Guess: Which team/race matches up best, statistically, against Terran this year? + Show Spoiler [Answer] +
If you guessed "ACE Zergs", you just won the jackpot. If you didn't guess right, I'm really not surprised. SKT Protoss come in... fifth. Samsung P? 14th.
Even more fun, ACE Terran is the #2 unit against Protoss. ACE pretty much universally sucks against Zerg, but I'm really curious how ACE manages to reverse the general imbalances.
My huge-ass leaderboard thread (originally Team Race Matchups, now with lots of extra features) has been updated with the main stats through Round Two, and updates will be completed over the next day.
Wow, what the hell at Woongjin. I knew they were doing badly but they are almost at the bottom now. Didn't they finish the first round at second place?
I just saw on milkis's twitter that Kwanro just got back from medical leave. Does anyone know when that started? I thugh he was just out because he was sluming hard in practice, but if he was gone the entire time, mabey he's still doing fine.
Correct; Kwanro has just came back from his vacation of recovering from getting dental treatment and from his slump. From Fomos, it seems that he got his vacation after he was eliminated from the OSL in the Round of 36 by Hydra and entered a slump after losing to Really last time SKT faced off against Woongjin Stars on Dec 8th. Rumors have been flying around that Kwanro has been missing because of internal conflict, but it seems that health issues along with recovering from his slump have been the main reasons why Kwanro was granted a vacation.
But that's not the point... The whole point is...... + Show Spoiler +
Kwanro is going to return in the Winners' League and is BACK! Expect KT to get KWANROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLED on the 8th! Fellow SKT fans rejoice :D
Kwanro was one of the only zergs I really liked (along with zero and yellow,) Then he came to SKT, and I was so excited for the kwanroooolllllage. It hasn’t happened yet, but winners league will usher in Kwanro's greatness.

A minor request - for the "maps" graphic, if the map is relatively balanced in a matchup, rather than coloring both percentages, why not leave them both black? Then at a quick glance a colored percentage would indicate that a map favors a race in a match.

Yeah I know but I wasn't surei f there was a 2010-2011 WL finals because of new format
How does the WL final work? It doesn't seem fair if two teams get an extra game to count towards their ladder position
iirc, WL of last season has 4 teams (based ONLY on the WL standing) seeded into the WL Playoff, then the #3 and #4 team battle each other, winner gets to battle #2, then the winner of that match battles with the #1 team, that's the WL final. The games in the WL playoff and final do not count toward regular season records.

However, asking for updates really doesn't make any difference, because I do it when I get around to do it. So you might as well save your breath, or typing in this case.
Oz has managed to crawl into reach of a play-off place. Ace is almost out of contention. The last round is going to be the most exciting I think. Personally, I'm tired of the Winner's League format now. I wish it wasn't two rounds in a row.

After three weeks most teams have played 6 matches, but some have only played 5 (because of the uneven number of games a team plays per round). My guess is that liquibet hasn't been updated yet, or maybe some games were missed.

No, the current Liquibet started in week 2 of round 4, not in the beginning of the round. Some of the matches are "missing" because they were a part of last round's Liquibet (season 22).

I can't read korean, but playoff positioning is baced on both R3 and R4.

I think there's a playoff for winners league only (R3 + R4) and then there'll be the proleague playoffs at the end taking into account all five rounds. But who knows, I could be terribly wrong.

Is there a place to check the overall rankings? The final results for R3 seem to be missing.

http://www.e-sports.or.kr/ has updated results for overall rankings. I think the overall rankings right now are, in order,
SKT, KT, Hite, Khan, STX, Oz, MBC, Stars, Wemade, ACE Assuming I'm reading the website right...

The KeSPA website normally has fairly recent overall rankings, although sometimes they are a day or two late.
The final results for R3 were actually in the OP. Admittedly they weren't very accessible, but now you can find them right when you open the R3 spoiler.

Looks like they will
KT was trying to make things interesting by giving all the other teams a head start. Looks like they must lose round 3 as well, seeing how this advantage isn't enough.

KT, Oz and Hite are pretty much guaranteed, the last spot depends on KHAN and SKT's performance.

KT, OZ, SKT and Hite made the WL playoffs.
The first match will be between SKT and Hite on March 26. The winner of the first match will play OZ on April 2. The winner of the second match will face KT in the finals on April 9.

Damn, I had hoped that it would 1 v 4 and 2 v 3. Now SK edging hite on won games didn't matter sadly.
Am I correct in assuming that there won't be any regular Proleague games until after the conclusion of the Winners League final?
(Also, thread is up to date! I might get around to doing some player stats on the weekend.)
i was wondering what effect the winners league playoffs have on the overall proleague season? Do the games in the playoffs count toward the teams' records? Does the winner of the winners league get anything for the overall proleague playoffs?

As far as I know, the Winners League playoffs have no bearing on the rest of the season.
Hopefully both teams put their best feet forward...I expect to see an epic JvF on set 7
I realize Fantasy starts with F too, but doesn't JvF generally refer to Jaedong vs Flash? I've never seen anyone refer to Fantasy's matchups as FvX before.
Alright SK, here we go. Last chance to beat KT in Winners League for quite some time...
Congratulations to OZ on their third place, although I expect that it'll be a while before they can smile about it. I really do think it's a good achievement considering their trouble in the first two rounds.
Can anyone tell me when regular PL is starting up again? I know the WL finals is April 9th, but I can't seem to find info on TL, and I'm not well versed in the korean BW infonets.

OZ managed to climb one spot this week, courtesy of STX!
Due to KT's loss, SK no longer needs to share the throne.
Yes, but they are still threatened by the likes of ACE. So you know you're still having problems at that point.
I don't think they're threatened nearly as much by ACE now, since there's Oz is currently 18W/20L vs 10W/28L for ACE. Oz is in 5th place now, with the possibility of taking 4th if Khan loses their match and Oz wins their next one, if we're going by set W/L differential, I think.
According to KeSPA's team rankings, some teams have penalties deducted from their point total. Can anyone who can read Korean translate the reason for the penalties? It seems that come teams have multiple offences too but still have 1 point deducted.

Considering that Round 5 will be over soon, it looks like the first three places will be split up between SKT, KT and CJ. That leaves the remaining three playoff places up for grabs to pretty much everyone else but ACE, sadly. Although I have to say that FOX have been looking pretty weak this round.
I thought I read somewhere at the beginning of the season that it was only the top 5 teams since there's only 10 teams now. But that source could've been guessing, wish there was more info on this :c
On May 24 2011 01:49 VGhost wrote: I'm assuming either a 4 or 5 team playoff, but do we know which?
The top 6 teams qualify for play-offs, unless they change the format.
The format will probably be like this:
Match 1: Rank 3 vs Rank 6 Match 2: Rank 4 vs Rank 5
Match 3: Winner Match 1 vs Winner Match 2
Match 4: Rank 2 vs Winner Match 3
Match 5 (Final): Rank 1 vs Winner Match 4
It's a weird format, but it is normally quite tense. Match 5 will be a single series (1x bo7. The others will be two to three series (bo3 x bo7).
Fun fact of the day: SKT is already qualified for the playoffs!
KT needs one more win for a guaranteed ticket.
Yeah, I know it's been like that before... but a playoff with more than half the teams seems a little odd - also WL playoff only had four this year and I think that was different (won't swear to it).
On May 20 2011 08:53 nodule wrote: Wow, just realized KT is 20-4 since end of round 2.
Yeah if it wasn't for their abysmal R1 and R2, they would be miles ahead of the competition in the ranking right now.
More like if it wasn't for Winner's League Format, they'd still be in the dump
Because they've been doing so bad in round 5. oh wait..
Hell even in SWL they didn't even rely on flash for all their wins. In fact, they won 6 games where flash didn't even get to play. Try again.
I didn't say it was all flash. Stats randomly stepped up to all kills. It doesn't change the fact that KT went from being one of the last teams at the start of winners league to being tied for first at the end of it.
Does anyone have the finals format? I know last year's was with 6 teams (and the format is listed in this thread), but that was also when there were more teams playing.

So spots 3-6 are basically the same, and whoever is 3rd out of SKT/KT/CJ has to fight it out against 4-6 before touching #2 - heh, sucks for whichever team that happens to be.
Must be pretty nice though for the rest of the pack, fighting for 3 spots instead of, say, 1 spot like the WL playoffs.
Damn Khan is falling apart when it matters most again 3 loss streak. Only reason their still in playoff contention is because woongjin is on a 4 loss streak =S.
SKT, CJ and KT have already qualified, ACE is out. For the other teams, the estimation by pundits is that a 6-3 record this round will be enough to guarantee a play-off spot.

with the way Round 6 is going right now, probably KT. SKT and CJ have ridiculous point differentials.
Prognosis: Woongjin has an edge in the race if they can get it together because they have fewer losses (25), as many or more wins (23), and as many or more games (6) than every other team still in contention and more games. Winning five of six gives them a spot for sure. Four will probably do it: three might but 3-3 would be dumb. Rooting Tonight: Woongjin Stars > Samsung KHAN (obviously), Air Force ACE > Wemade FOX (loss for another contender).
Thank you for that. Oz is edging their way into the spot with - what, three games or so still to go before playoffs? I'm hoping for a team other than STX in there (even though nothing is decided yet it seems), but the top three notwithstanding, I think Oz and Wooongjin in the playoffs would be really awesome. I guess that means Woongjin is my second favorite team.
Woongjin Stars Report: Win over KHAN solidified their position in 4th. Games remaining: vs OZ, vs ACE, vs CJ, vs KT, vs FOX. Other games influencing position: KHAN-MBC, KHAN-FOX, STX-OZ, OZ-KHAN, FOX-STX Woongjin's in a good/bad position. With three of remaining 5 being against other contenders, winning those three would give them a playoff spot for sure. Winning two of three might do it. One game against ACE should be a gimme. Woongjin should comfortably go 3-2 the rest of the way and take the 4th spot with a 27-27 record. The next four teams will likely bludgeon each other (though OZ is showing a big edge in determination). MBC is likely out: with only one game remaining against other contenders, they have no way to directly make up distance.
Rooting Tonight: CJ > KT (rather face KT in playoffs, I think), SKT > MBC (ends any practical playoff chances for MBC; if I read this right in only puts them within 1/2 game (I think) of elimination but I don't see them winning out).
the only guy i'd miss from stx is bogus but hell i prefer wemade than stx want to see some 1on 1 baby action and yes i know i'm sick lol but not on expense of oz so stx pls lose ..
can't believe STX is still in playoff contention with the way that they're playing... Oh well I just hope that CJ can catch up to KT and secure that spot in the finals!
News: CJ and SKT continue to pull away. They play each other the last week of the season. With the loss last night KT lost its last shot at the #1 seed. With the loss last night MBC is effectively eliminated though not (I believe) mathematically until they lose again or everyone ahead of them wins two.
Woongjin Stars Report: No changes. MBC dropping is good news.
Rooting Tonight: Woongjin Stars > Hwaseung OZ (because duh), Air Force ACE > STX SouL (damage another contender).
News: Woongjin continues to solidify 4th place. With the loss, OZ is in danger of losing playoff position if WeMade wins over SKT tonight. (If KHAN beats CJ, OZ is still ahead on game differential.) Rooting tonight: Woongjin is comfortably better than all the other teams still in contention for the 4-6 spots. SKT and CJ winning would push WeMade and KHAN closer to elimination; WeMade or KHAN winning might put them in position for playoffs, and as I believe they're weaker than OZ or STX that can't be bad either. In other words, I don't immediately care. At this point, we have to look long-distance: SKT gets more scarier with prep time than CJ does, so I would rather see CJ take down the #1 spot. Rooting: CJ Entus > Samsung KHAN, WeMade FOX > SK Telecom T1.
Playoff Reports: SKT secures 1st place and Grand Finals with: 1 win or 1 CJ loss. CJ places 1st with: 3 wins, SKT loses 3. CJ secures 2nd with 1 win or 1 KT loss KT places 2nd with: 3 wins, CJ loses 3. KT places 3 with 1 loss or 1 CJ win. Woongjin places 4th with 3 wins. KHAN places 4th with: 4 wins, at least two Woongjin losses. OZ, STX, FOX, MBC can all still theoretically make the playoffs as well. Obviously the easiest way to do that is going to be to win out.
Games between playoff contenders: Week 4: Samsung KHAN vs MBCGame HERO, Samsung KHAN vs WeMade FOX, STX SouL vs Hwaseung OZ Week 5: Hwaseung OZ vs Samsung KHAN, WeMade FOX vs STX SouL, Woongjin Stars vs WeMade FOX
Woongjin Stars Report: Finally playing well. This week's opponents: Air Force ACE, CJ Entus. 1-1 on the week will likely secure a playoff spot. 2-0 should secure 4th place.
* With the end of the week I double-checked the standings. As best I can figure out, the result of MBCGame HERO vs STX SouL was left off the standing chart published here before Week 3.
Rooting interest tonight: KT Rolster > WeMade FOX, MBCGame HERO > Samsung KHAN. In both cases, reason: keep the competition for Woongjin's spot as badly-off as possible.
News: MBCGame HERO is eliminated. KT Rolster places 3rd. Woongjin Stars Report: Samsung KHAN is making a strong push at the end; Woongjin has to win as many as possible. Rooting Tonight: CJ Entus > STX SouL, SK Telecom T1 > Hwaseung OZ
So, let me get this straight. The only way CJ can take the grand final spot is if they win all remaining games, SKT loses all their remaining games AND CJ wins their games with a big enough margin to get a higher game differential then SKT?

I think SKT has the grand final spot secured
There is no margin requirement. If CJ wins out and SKT loses out then in the worse case scenario (for CJ) CJ has a +42 game differential and SKT has a +38 game differential. So if CJ wins out and SKT loses out they automatically have the differential advantage and thus the tiebreaker vs SKT. SKT still has a magic number of 1.

Oh, didn't know that CJ and SKT haven't played eachother this round. Would be pretty epic to have a tiebreaker of that caliber as a final regular season game. Although I prefer SKT to secure grand final spot as soon as possible
Your wish has been granted Vazze. The first three spots are now set in stone.
No ranking changes today. STX missed their chance to go past OZ and FOX. Those three teams are very close. FOX boosted their chances by winning yesterday. They've also got a game in hand. Stars will probably be fine. KHAN has to be careful, but it's in their hands.
Your game score totals for WeMade, STX SouL, KT Rolster, SKT1 and MBCgame seem to be off by one.
WeMade vs. Khan tomorrow is going to be big and it is so hard for me to choose who to root for. I like WeMade's players so much, Roro, Baby, Wooki and even Shine by now On the other hand we have Jangbi and SBG. I want Oz, Khan and WeMade to make the playoffs. Too bad that one or two of them has to not make it.
I also like STX but I don't think they would deserve the playoffs because their performance over the season was not satisfying. They have Bogus, a slumping Kal and that's it. I don't even know how they managed to get as many wins as Wemade and Oz.

Woongjin Stars Report: With OZ and STX losing last night, Woongjin needs to win one match in their remaining four to make the playoffs. They play ACE, CJ, KT, and FOX and should go 2-2 (win over ACE, loss to CJ, one win and one loss to KT and FOX but I'm not sure which will be which).
Other playoff scenarios: Woongjin, KHAN, and WeMade all control their own destinies right now. Woongjin secures a spot with a win tonight: even with a loss they remain in fourth with the easiest path. If KHAN wins tonight vs FOX, Woongjin and KHAN take the 4th and 5th spots barring miracles. STX would control their own destiny since they have matches against OZ and Wemade remaining. If FOX wins, they takes the upper hand and likely only need to win one more to secure a spot. KHAN would keep an edge in match record but would lose the tiebreaker (if necessary) to OZ.
Rooting tonight: Woongjin Stars > Air Force ACE (sorry guys), Samsung KHAN > WeMade FOX (gives the best chance for Woongjin even if they screw up). (On the other hand, a Stars win and a FOX win gives Woongjin a playoff seed straight up.)
Thanks VGhost, your updates of the playoff situation are much appreciated. Your Woongjin Reports have been even more appreciated ^^ . Assuming a disaster doesn't occur, it's going to be really cool seeing Stars in the playoffs again. (After missing them for so many years)
News: Well, Woongjin faceplanted (surprise?), and Samsung continues to win. Apparently MBC isn't eliminated after all.
Remaining Games vs Contenders: WJN plays FOX. KHAN plays OZ. OZ plays KHAN and STX. FOX plays WJN and STX. STX plays OZ and FOX.
Playoff Scenarios: WJN and KHAN each need one win to clinch a playoff spot. At least one of WJN and KHAN will make the playoffs. STX controls their own destiny (vs OZ, vs FOX). If they lose either match they are eliminated on game differential. If they win out, WJN, KHAN, STX make the playoffs. OZ and FOX play independently of each other for the remaining matches. OZ currently holds the tiebreaker edge by two games. WJN, KHAN, OZ, and FOX could all finish at 25-29. KHAN currently is five games behind WJN in the game differential tiebreaker. MBC must win out to make the playoffs, together with not better than 1-1 from OZ, FOX, and STX, and a lot of help from game differential.
Rooting tonight: No real rooting interest as far as Stars-fandom is concerned. Hwaseung OZ > STX SouL eliminates STX on game differential. KT Rolster vs MBCGame HERO is MBC's last chance. So I'll just go with personal preference: Hwaseung OZ > STX SouL, MBCGame HERO > KT Rolster. /irrational Killer and Jaehoon fandom

Oh, point. Although STX is actually eliminated if they lose because their win differential is so very damn bad. Let me re-run figures and edit.
Woojin Stars: need 1 win OR 1 loss from two of Oz, STX, WMF OR game diff remaining schedules: CJ, KT, WMF
Samsung: need 1 win OR 1 loss from two of Oz, STX, WMF OR game diff remaining schedule: Oz, ACE
>>> If Woojin and Samsung lose all their games then they fight it out on game differential with any other teams that may have 25 wins. Both SamSung and Woojin will lose based on game diff to Oz and WMF in that case. They may beat out each other. >>>Samsung starts -5 game diff to Woojin, but Woojin has 3 games to take a possible severe beating.
Oz: 2 wins and game diff if WMF wins out OR at least 1 loss from both WMF and STX and game differential remaining schedule: STX, Khan
STX: 2 wins remaining schedulle: Oz, WMF
WMF: 2 wins and game diff if Oz wins out OR at least 1 loss from both Oz and STX and game differential remaining schedule: STX, WJS
>>> if STX loses one game, they are worse than WMF or Oz by game differential barring penalty points. >>> if STX wins out they eliminate both WMF and Oz >>> Oz starts off with a +2 game diff over WMF.
MBCgame: 2 wins and at least 1 loss from all of Oz, STX, WeMade and game differential remaining schedule: KT, ACE >>> MBC starts off -5 game diff to Oz and -3 game diff to WeMade.
edit 1: > Oh yeah, at least 1 loss from two of Oz, STX, WMF translates to any Oz or WMF loss. So either of Samsung or Woojin can secure playoffs for both of them by beating Oz and WMF respectively. STX can do the same by beating either of the teams.

Testing for the possibility of playoffs is easy enough with a monte-carlo method and enough trials, but that's not very valuable. But for playoff scenarios, it'd be fairly difficult write a program that gets the logic correct AND gives meaningful breakdowns.
It's certainly possible and would be an interesting exercise. Unfortunately, you have to feed in the remaining schedule so always takes a bit of data entry. PL playoffs happen twice a year so it's not very useful, and most playoff scenarios aren't that complicated. Usually, it's three or four teams and simple.
Proleague is really imbalanced at the moment. The top 3 are so far ahead of the rest. 2 rounds of WL was probably too much. I hope they revert back to the 5 round (including 1 WL) format next season.
If there wasn't Winners League, ACE would have made it to the play-offs. :O I am wondering if next season will have two rounds of WL.
Anyway, I would like these 4 to advance : - WMF because that disbanding rumor scares the shit ouf of me - Khan because I want to see the Stork / Jangbi duo to do well, and because I wanna see January trolling playoffs line-ups - Woongjin, because they have a great and deep line up, too bad Woongjin players are rather inconsistent. - Hwaseung Oz because JD is on a killing spree, but unfortunately his teammates still suck (although Hiya played really well against Bisu), so unless they hurry to recruit PirateZerg and MoustacheZerg, they have literally no chance.
With todays match STX beats OZ 4-1 and OZ is officially eliminated from any chance for the playoff.
KHAN is 100% in with 5th/6th place secured even if they lose both of their games and even got a chance for 4th if they win their remaining games and WJN start a losing streak.
Only STX and WMF got a chance for 6th spot where WMF needs to win 2 matches against STX and WJN and STX just needs to win their last game against WMF.
While doing nothing themselves, Khan and Stars are now secure in their playoff spot thanks to STX's victory over Oz. MBC is eliminated by their loss to KT.
The key set is still WMF vs STX. If STX wins, they are in. If WMF wins against both STX and Stars, they are in. Oz still has a chance if WMF beats STX but loses to Stars.

So even if STX beats WJN 4-0 and KHAN beats FOX, they're out if they lose to FOX? :O.
Sorry about that! I had a typo in my write-up on (3), wrote FOX > KHAN instead of (as is now corrected) FOX > WJN. Apologies for the confusion.

Both SKT and CJ were only 10-8 during the two rounds of WL. It was KTFlash and Jaedong Oz who took advantage of it.

Yea, I would like to see WL reduced to one round (or even shorter) as well. The teams are in such a state that it overwhelmingly favors the larger, stronger teams.

Yee, I've been rooting for Fox ever since that rumor emerged. There's a couple scenarios where fox makes it even if they lose to woongjin, but if it means Stars have to take a loss for WmF to make it, I guess I wouldn't mind :x

Since there's 10 teams now I doubt they'll go back to 5 rounds, since they still want to saturate with ~54 matches per team. (9 opponents x 6 rounds, vs 11 opponents x 5 rounds before the contraction.)
But as long as we're fantasizing about changes to the PL format...how about back to Bo5? Or a schedule where each team plays only once a week at most, so that the players' workload is lighter and the greater prep time for matches leads to higher quality games?

Hahahahahahaha, who am I kidding?
If it's 6 rounds and once a week, then each season would last 14 months after taking into account the breaks between rounds.
I don't want a 5-game series; I want my Bo7 because it gives teams the chance to showcase their depth; and less all-kills to boot; makes them much more valuable.

The Bo7 format is definitely better. Two rounds of Winners League was too much though. I would guess that we'll see some changes for the next season, but it seems difficult to predict what will happen.

Why? What is wrong with winners league?
Winners league can sometimes look as if it's not a team league, but just aces duking it out. Also, even in the shortest "normal" format match we get to see at least 4 players from both teams. In Winners League sometimes you only get to see one or two players for several matches in a row. I like watching teams field a multitude of players who all have their own strengths, weaknesses and personalities.
When Winners League came around this season I quite enjoyed it initially. But at the beginning of Round 5 I really wanted the normal format back. Maybe they should not have two rounds in a row.

Woongjin Stars Report: Well they played somebody's B-team and stomped them. This is much better than the last lol-tastic match vs CJ Entus. At the same time, probable opponent KHAN is a much scarier proposition right now than KT, even if we're talking A-team lineups.
Speaking of which...
Tonight is for all the marbles. Or at least all the non-playoff marbles. OZ needs to win, and win big. Meanwhile, STX plays to clinch, while FOX plays for one last shot.
Woongjin's rooting interests: I'll be perfectly honest. We don't want to play KHAN in the first round. For that to happen, Samsung needs to drop its last two games, and STX or FOX needs to win out. So I'm rooting for OZ to beat KHAN (unlikely as that seems), and FOX over STX since WeMade has a better shot at winning the game differential tiebreaker. Also I'd rather play Mind and Shine and RorO than Bogus and Calm and Kal, whatever their current form says. (And finally, I want to see FOX win because if we can't avoid playing KHAN anyway I want to see OZ make the playoffs and if STX wins tonight that's impossible.)
I like winner's league. Still, it's strange that it would count towards the overall score. I want to see it as a separate event of its own, but that's basically what STX cup is.
For the Khan vs. Ace match January should seriously consider losing against Ace on purpose. KT seems much weaker than Woongjin Starts atm. KT has an injured Flash, an okayish Stats and not much else, Stars with Soulkey, Light with his improved TvP and Zero seem like a much tougher opponent.

I'm fine with that. Stars vs STX gives Woongjin a better chance to advance as well.
I'm happy Stars is playing Khan first round rather than STX. They should be able to advance and then I want to see Zero take down Flash for revenge in the Ro4!

But it is difficult to change as long as they allow six teams into post-season.
I also doubt KeSPA would ever change the core format, regardless of the number of teams.
The only thing I don't like is how the 1st team gets an automatic seed to the finals, but given the amount of teams, there is very little they can do. I hope the rumors about Fox are untrue, because I don't know what they can do with a lower amount of teams.
There are 10 teams in PL, so it wouldn't be weird if the top 5 teams advanced to post-season. The result would be one less round (four is a bit long, no?) and the elimination of the semi final seed:
Quarter Final A: 2nd vs 5th Quarter Final B: 3rd vs 4th
V
Semi Final: Winner (A) vs Winner (B)
V
Grand Final: 1st vs Winner of Semi Final
Currently the 3rd to 6th place teams have beyond a dismal chance of winning the championship. A team could fight through three rounds (!) and make it to the Grand Final. However, they become so worn out and studied to death by that point that they get demolished by the 1st place team. Even the Masters of the Universe couldn't get it done last year.
The majority of the league shouldn't be in the playoffs. The above format provides some relief to lower seeded teams.
The grand final seed almost hands the championship to the 1st place team - it interferes with the spirit of competition. If only the top 4 teams were allowed to participate in the playoffs, there would be one less reason to maintain the seed.
Semi Final A: 1st vs 4th Semi Final B: 2nd vs 3rd
V
Grand Final: Winner (A) vs Winner (B)
PL is a far cry from MLB, NBA, and other major professional sports leagues (no ticket sales, minimal profit from merchandise sales). The weaker teams would be left in the dust year after year. They would receive less publicity and their sponsors would have less incentive to continue supporting them.
But if 10 teams were to become 8 without causing the league to fall under, it might work.
I rather dislike the direct seeding to the final. The fans of the first placed team hardly get to see their team during the playoffs. I think I'd prefer it like this:
Match 1: 6th vs 3rd Match 2: 4th vs 5th
Match 3: Match 1 winner vs 2nd Match 4: Match 2 winner vs 1st

In that case you should give the first a 1 point lead in the match, the same way you do when in a dual elimination tournament the winner of the losers bracket meets the winner of the winners bracket. Otherwise there is not advantage at all to finish first.

Maybe the higher seed gets to choose maps or gets to thumb down more maps on a larger pool of maps to choose from?
What Simplistik proposed is essentially the NFL playoffs format without the home field advantage.

The NFL has a 16 game regular season, though, while PL had 54 this season. They need the stronger seed advantages to keep up interest for 54 regular season games.

MLB/NHL/NBA all have much longer seasons. Of course, MLB has a smaller postseason, while NHL/NBA first rounds are mostly ridiculous.

SPL has 3:54 game ratio
MLB has the flukiest post season series by ratio while NBA and NHL are the most steady. NBA games are far more predictable NHL games though. SPL is on par with NFL except when a single 7-set decides the winner in the Grand Finals.

Not sure where you're going with this?
NFL Teams: 12 teams out of 32 = 3:8 (> 1:3). Games: 16 game season. Playoffs are 4 games. 1:4.
MLB Teams: 8 teams out of 30 = 4:15 (> 1:4). Games: 162 game season. Playoffs are 3 rounds. At least 12 and up to 21 games. Assume an average of 18 (probably high). 1. (Somewhere between 1:13 and 1:8)
NBA/NHL Teams: 16 teams out of 32 = 1:2 Games: 82 game season. Playoffs are 4 rounds. At least 16 and up to 28 games. Assume an average of 24 (probably high). 2:7. (Somewhere between 1:5 and 1:3)
In comparison, SPL Teams: 6 teams out of 10 = 3:5 (Was 6 of 12.) Games: 54 match season. (Was 55.) Playoffs are 4 rounds. At least 7 and up to 9 matches. Assume an average of 8 (no idea). 1:7. (Somewhere between 1:8 and 1:6)
TBH while I love the thundering conclusion of drama that a single best of seven, win or go home, gives to the grand finals, it would be much more equitable to play out the Best of Three like the other series (the 2008-09 league played the same format as the opening series).
Anyway, my point is that of all the major American sports, SPL has a postseason closest to MLB in relative duration.

China should bring a team or two to korea for SPL imo. They worked out the broadcasts to china and all, and with the Korean Air OSL and now the SPL finals, China is getting more involved (only as spectators atm). They should send a team :/
These two teams have more finals appearances than all the other teams put together. One with a tradition of winning (sometimes back-to-back) and one with a tradition of omg-so-close-every-year.
When I see this match up, I imagine SKT is a force of good. Heroes who have long battled to keep a perennial evil threat (KT) from getting their claws on the chalice. Granted, last year evil grew too strong while good grew stagnant. The realm was lost. But now the champions of good have returned to restore peace and balance.
