[SPL] STX SouL vs. WeMade FOX

Modesty, the Sniper with potential?

Role on the Team
STX Soul is known for being one of the deepest teams, with a large collection of players the competition would be right to covet. Until recently, Modesty was not part of that pantheon. Used almost exclusively as a ZvZ sniper, Modesty did not make to garner respect from the fans quickly. Because his matchup is considered by many to be a boring coin flip, he did not play the epic fan-pleasing games. This season has changed Modesty entirely though. While his ZvZ is still some of the best in the business, a whopping 58.5%, the change that came about a newfound ability when playing other matchups. In the past few STX matches, Modesty has only gone out to beat Baxter. It appears that he is being given lots of time for his individual league by the coaching staff. In a team so deep, and getting deeper, they have that luxury.

Current Form
At this point, one cannot talk about Modesty without bringing up the seven-game win streak that he is sitting at the top of. With the streak almost entirely consisting of OSL games, Modesty is at the threshold of the round of 8. I think it goes without saying that this is a new high in his career. In fact, Modesty's performance in this OSL makes him look like an entirely reforged player that can't be counted out against any opponent. Modesty recently won his first 2 round of 16 games against Fantasy and Hydra, who are both in absolutely top form this season. With those names freshly tossed in his wake, I don't think anyone in the other booth can be truly confident.

A Step Forward
While Fantasy cries map imbalance, and Hydra's defeat was in a rather scrappy game, these two wins reveal a level of long-term planning and strategic play that is new in Modesty. As a rookie, confidence is certainly an issue, and a solid showing at the STX Masters has to be a good way to transition into a new season. A victory over Best at the end of the last Proleague was instrumental for Modesty, who says that after that game he could get comfortable against Protoss. In his interview after making the round of 16, he boldly said that he was hoping to face good Protoss players.

With a jump in his practice time ushering in some OSL success, Modesty seems to be losing his rookie jitters and coming into his own. Calm and Hyvaa, the new acquisition from eSTRO, provide a wealth of experience and help for a budding Zerg. As Modesty casts off his bad tenancies and discovers some broader elegance, he has proven himself a whole new beast this season. Expect to see a lot more Modesty in the future.

Patience and comfort beyond the first phase of the game are attributes that Modesty has only recently gained. This OSL game against Mind is a drawn-out brawl where Modesty keeps a cool head against biomech build he could not have seen coming.

RORO, THE DESTROYER OF FPL




Role in the team

Roro is the second zerg in the Proleague brick wall that is Wemade FOX, the team with arguably the best overall lineup the current Proleague. Similar to his fellow teammates Baby, Midas, Pure, and Shine, Roro has exhibit solid play ever since late 09, only dropping games against the best of them, such as Movie, Leta, Calm, Jaedong, Yellow[Arnc] (who?), Kal, Jangbi, and Bisu, and some other scrubs here and there, such as Frozean, and maintaining a solid 50% winrate up till this point, despite the less-than-stellar record at the beginning of his televised career.

And, oh, he destroys FPL.

What makes him such an FPL noobtrap is that, despite the fact that he loses early in single leagues and loses against high A-class players in Proleague, the fact is that he gets fielded often – ever since the start of his career he got to play a game, sometimes 2, in almost every week in the season – and while he may have lost to good players he was good enough to rout a lot of the active a-teamers, and even S-class players like Jaedong (back when JvZ still existed) when he feels like it. His win/loss streaks in the early half of his career also make for some lulzy trades.

Current form

Roro is currently a pretty solid player, losing to players better than him but beating just about anyone else – Movie, Horang2, Light, Midas, and FBH are some of the people he beat since the start of Shinhan 10-11. So far, he has dropped 7 games (9 if you count the 0-2 loss to Tempest in OSL offline qualifier), but 5 of those were against Jaedong, Bisu, and Flash, and 1 to ggaemo (who has exhibit extremely clutch play recently). He also managed to qualify for a spot in the MSL ro36 and even beat Midas in the Wildcard tourney, only to lose to Bisu again next round. If there is ever a good time to get him on your FPL, it is now.

STX vs WeMade, who will claim rank 3 in SPL?

STX and WeMade are schedule for the battle for 3rd place.

As of today, STX/WeMade/MBCGame are all tied in terms of the win-loss record at 8W7L, but the game +/- differentials have set them aside, putting WeMade at 3rd, STX at 4th, and MBCGame at 5th. Now, in the 4th week of R2, all three of those teams are scheduled to play. The battle for 3rd place could not be any more intense.

STX vs WeMade match is anticipated to be a fierce affair. The winner will claim 3rd place in the SPL ranks, but the loser could fall to 5th depending on the result of MBC vs OZ game. Since SKT (rank 1) and Hite (rank 2) have both surpassed the 10-win hurdle, other contending teams must keep winning in order to close the gap.

Both STX and WeMade have well-balanced and deep lineups, so it's tough to predict a clear winner out of this one. STX features a Protoss line of Kal-Shuttle, a Zerg line of Calm-Modesty-Hero, and Terran line of Bogus-Classic. WeMade has a Terran line of Baby-Midas-Mind, a Zerg line of Shine-Roro, and a Protoss line of Pure.

In this battle of well-balanced teams, the key factor to victory will be the entry battle of the coaches. The coach that is able to predict the opponent's entry and counter it with a sniping card will most likely be able to claim the precious match victory. Both coaches are experienced veterans around the league with their own know-how's, and it will be fun to watch how this mind battle unfolds.

Both teams have claimed to be the most well-balanced team in the league. Now is the time to decide which team is able to convert their strength into a victory.
