Witchcraft Mini Mafia III
Introduction: Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules: Cheating: Cheating includes (but is not limited to): 1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information. 2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox, or really any screenshots of things from the game. 6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host. 6.1. Whether or not you are allowed to post the wording of your Role PM will vary from game to game. 6.2. As a general rule, even in games where you're allowed to post the wording of your role PM, don't post the other stuff surrounding it (timestamps, who it was from/to, subject line, and so on). 7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip. 8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts. 9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits. 10. Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account. Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.
Posting: Mod Font: This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it.
Rules specific to this game are also shown in blue text in this thread.
Question Font: This is question font. Use it to ask the moderators questions about the rules. Please do us a favor and read the rules before you ask anything.
Activity: You must post in this thread once per cycle while you are alive and vote every day for both witchcraft and lynching. I'll probably try to warn you first, but if you fail to follow activity rules, you will be inactivity modkilled. Failure to vote of any kind will be modkilled without warning. If you are inactivity modkilled, I will be very sad ;_;
Off-Topic: Try to stay on-topic while playing. I'll let you know if it's off-topic.
Smurfs: If you want to smurf, let me know. Smurfs are welcome.
Hydras: If one of the players would like to hydra with someone else, that is acceptable. Please inform me. Your hydra can have any name, but the signature should be something like "Hydra of Blazinghand and WBG for Purgatory Mafia" so that people know which two players you are.
Spam: Try not to spam. If I think you're spamming I'll tell you to stop. Not stopping is strictly prohibited. If more than 10 posts on a page are yours, you're definitely spamming.
Editing: Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing is not allowed. Do not edit posts. You get one (1) warning for editing. After that, you will be modkilled. No editing. This includes indirect editing like linking an image, then editing the image. Editing your profile or signature are allowed, but if you try weird tricky things I'll get mad at you and do stuff. Yes, I'm being vague here, because it's fine to change your profile or sig or whatever, that's no good.
Inappropriate posts: If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, Flamewheel, or Mig before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally.
As a general guideline: Stuff like "this argument is dumb because XYZ" is fine. Stuff like "you are doing ABC, which is dumb" or "you're dumb because you do ABC, and ABC is dumb" is fine. Stuff like "you're dumb. lolooloooo" is not fine. Insults and abrasive play happen, but it must all be oriented towards trying to win the game. Don't be that guy. The main thing is: don't insult for the purpose of insulting only. I'm very verbal about people getting out of line, so if you cross the line I will let you know. I am not afraid to ruin a game of mafia for 10 people and 4 hosts just to modkill someone.
I haven't specifically outlined what exactly I find unacceptable because I'm lazy, but I'm not too lazy to modkill people for violating rules that only exist in my head and nobody knows about. As a general rule, I basically moderate entirely on my discretion. My goal is for everyone to have a good time. My co-hosts will also moderate entirely on their own judgement. Most of the time you will be warned directly and personally if you step out of line before any bigger actions are taken. The golden rule here is don't do anything I don't want you to do in terms of behavior, and act so that everyone has fun.

Reporting posts: The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, co-host, Flamewheel, or Mig before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately.
Ban discussions: Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game.
Play to win. This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. If you're not playing to win I will modkill you. But this won't be a problem, because if you don't want to win you can just not sign up k?
This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game.
You have been warned! bwahahaha
Voting rules: 1. Voting is done in the game thread. Do not PM me your vote. 2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote DoYouHas. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance. 3. No conditional voting. 4. You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game. 4.5. You can vote for a no-lynch if you want to. 5. This game follows an extended simple majority lynch. At the end of the day, if a player has over 50% of the votes, that player is lynched. So if there are 8 players you need 5 to lynch, if there are 7 players you need 4 to lynch. 6. Voting by the end of the natural day cycle is mandatory. 7. If there is no majority at the end of the cycle, you baddies just no-lynched! 8. Once the day is over, please do not post until the night-post.
Signups:
Eligibility This game is open to anyone, but we are using Wisdom of the Crowds, see below for details. Anyone may sign up for this game if they have played at least 1 game on TL Mafia. If this is your first game on TL but you have played elsewhere and want to sign up, please PM me and we'll work something out.
Special Signup rule: Wisdom of the Crowds If you do not wish to play with a player for any reason, PM me, if I receive enough votes against a player (five or more) then he or she will not be allowed to play in this game. Your vote against a player will be held in the strictest confidence. You *must* be signed up to vote against someone. I reserve the right to override this rule, and also to bar players from signing up for this game based entirely on my own arbitrary judgement.
Invites This is a NON invite game. Signups are totes open.
Game-specific rules: Modkills: This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM Flamewheel or post in the Ban List, and also type /sitout in the thread here.
Replacements I love replacements, but I hope never to use them. There are 3 replacement slots, so sign up if you're interested. Replacements will be made up until the start of D3. You're encouraged to find your own replacement if you need to replace out, and if you do so, I will smile upon you.
Clues: There are no clues. All flavor is just that-- flavor.
PMs PMs are not allowed in this game unless your role explicitly allows it.
Time Cycle: This game will follow a 24 hour night/48 hour day cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the deadline is 23:00 GMT (+00:00), but that is subject to change. Actions/votes will be accepted up to and including the posted time, but not after.
Credits: Thanks to anyone who has ever hosted a game. This list grows ever longer. Special thanks to Hapahauli, DoYouHas, jaybrundage, Acrofales, Forumite, and iGrok for helping me balance this game and make the mechanics work properly. Also thanks to Probulous since I stole this OP from him and modified it to my nefarious needs. Also also thanks to my beautiful cohost(s).
If you have not read all the rules, go back and do so. I might give you candy.
I am open to questions any time. If something doesn't make sense, please ask.

Roles and Setup information
This is an open setup. All roles and what the setup is is here in this post.
13 Players - 10 Coven (Town), 3 Inquisition (Scum) The Inquisition: 1 Priest (Godfather), 2 Witch Hunter (1-shot any-phase blue vigilante) The Coven: 9 Acolytes (VT), 1 Baptized Acolyte (Unaware Miller)
The Coven Acolyte (Vanilla Townie): You are a witch! You have sold your soul to Satan for fleeting dominion in this mortal realm, and he has granted you great powers. Your foul magic is otherworldly, and your profane prayers fill the town square with darkness. Life is good! However, your town has been infiltrated by three vile Inquisitors. Each day, you can cast a vote on who to lynch. Furthermore, each day you must channel your dark powers by casting Witchcraft votes via PM to the host. If you gain dark powers from Witchcraft, you keep them for 72 hours, and are vulnerable to The Witch Hunter during that time.
Baptized Acolyte (Miller): You are a foul witch! Little did you know you were baptized as a child by your God-fearing parents. Though they died, their piety lives on, and your should has been saved. Anyone who Scrys on you will think you are a man of God. Your town has been infiltrated by three vile Inquisitors. You return Red to Scrying. You are not self-aware.
Witchcraft: Each day, in addition to the normal vote, there is a secret vote done via PM to elect Blues. Each TOWN player, regardless of whether a regular acolyte or a miller, has X votes (See below) they can distribute as they want, but can't put more than one vote on a guy or vote for themselves. You MUST vote. Failure to vote will result in modkill.
The results are secret, though of course people can claim their votes in the thread... if they want to out the blues that is :D At the start of the night, the X top winners can choose from the following pool of Powers, which they retain until the next election: Scrying - DT check. Witch Hunter and Miller return RED, all others return GREEN. Blaspheme - DT check, Priest returns RED, all others return GREEN. Curse - Roleblocks target, preventing KP delivery and night actions. Hex - JK, protects and roleblocks a target, preventing night actions and getting hit by KP, but does NOT stop KP delivery Rodent Familiar - Tracker, sees who a target visits that night Cloister - Mason, pick someone and become masoned with them until the end of the day. Morph (up to 3 witches may use this per night) - Veteran, does not stop Silver Bullets
Calculating number of blues: Blues = (T - 3) / 2 rounded down, 3 max T is townies alive in the day of the selection.. So, if there are 7 townies, this means that there will be 2 blues and each townie gets to cast their secret vote for 2 players to gain blue powers. A blue counts as a "Witch" until the start of the next night cycle. You start off with 3 blues. If town lynches scum, get extra days with more blues-- but if they lynch town, their number of blues drops off more quickly. At 1-scum LYLO or 1-scum MYLO there are no more blues. + Show Spoiler +Townies : number of Witchcraft 10 / 3 9 / 3 8 / 2 7 / 2 6 / 1 5 / 1 4 / 0 3 / 0 2 / 0 Whenever a townie dies, I will post and notify the thread of the updated number of Blues electable in the coming cycle.
Coven Win Condition - The Coven wins when there are no more members of the Inquisition left in the game or nothing can prevent that from happening.
The Inquisition Holy Smiting: Each night, a member of the Inquisition delivers a Holy Smite to defeat an enemy.
The Inquisitor(goon): Born in a remote village in the Western Pyrenees, you were abandoned at a monastery soon after your birth. Weaned on goat milk and raised by the pious monks there, you learned a way of life that was quiet and glorious. You took pride in the tending of God's domain. As you came of age, however, you felt the need to rise in the service of God. After scribing and binding a few choice biblical passages into a reader for yourself, you departed the Basque Country on a pilgrimage. Traveling from village to village, you spread the world of The Lord and root out heretics. You come heeding the call of The Priest, who even now does battle with The Deceiver's minions. You are armed with only your Faith and your Holy Words, but you will not falter-- no Blasphemy can harm you as long as you clutch the words of your Savior to your chest. Innocent to Blaspheme, guilty to Scrying. Can deliver KP.
The Priest (godfather): Long have you lived and worked in steadfast loyalty to The Lord. In your youth you wandered the lands, a preacher without a pulpit. In time you settled down in a small town, but last year The Church relocated you to a large parish that services the town of Greysedge. As you settled in, you noticed something odd-- your people, they are afraid. Something bothers them, and some of them have dark looks in their eyes. Soon, you realize the truth: their souls have been given over to Satan. You preach fire and brimstone, you call upon the sinners to repent, but your words fall on deaf ears. You have hope, though, for you were once a wanderer and you know who to contact for help. The Church promises to send two young Holy Men to help you root out the infidels and apostates. You spend your days in the sanctified church building, but in your old age you often do not carry Holy Pages with you. Innocent to Scrying, guilty to Blaspheme. Can deliver KP.
The Witch Hunter (one-shot blue vigi): Most inquisitors think of themselves as hardened souls who stand fast against the darkness, but they don't know what darkness is. Many inquisitors die or retire before facing what you've faced. They chose the quiet life of ministry and silent faith. Who could blame them? You were never that sort. Your fate calls you to ever darker paths, to lands where your soul alone is the dim hope for God and Humanity. You have unearthed and sent back to the mud horrors that most men, most scholars could never even imagine. You are not one for talking when action could do, and when you hear the call of The Priest, you know what must be done. In addition to your Holy Pages, you bring your gun, loaded with your last Silver Bullet. Blessed by the Pope and bathed in Holy Water, this ammunition destroys Witches instantly if it hits— and you never miss. Once, at any point during the game, day or night, you can fire your Silver Bullet by PMing the host. If it hits someone empowered with Witchcraft, they die at the end of the phase, even if they are a Veteran. If it hits an unpowered townie, nothing happens and your bullet is spent. Can do this and deliver scum KP in the same night. If you are RBed, the bullet is refunded. Innocent to Blaspheme, guilty to Scrying.
The Holy Words and Pages: The Witch Hunter and The Inquisitor, both being traveling men of God, have brought with them copies of pages from The Good Book. Together, they pool their pages and the Inquisition faction gains powers as a result. Any time a member of the Inquisition wins witchcraft, instead of gaining dark powers he defends himself with the Holy Pages. When this happens, he may deliver a Roleblock or Masonry in addition to his normal night actions. This power resolves before town roleblocks.
Inquisition Win Condition - The Inquisition wins when there are no more members of The Coven alive, or nothing can prevent that from happening.
Sample PMs:
Acolyte Acolyte The Priest, your QT: ____ The Witch Hunter, your QT: _____ Scum, your QT: _____
Acolyte gets Acolyte PM. So does Baptized. Sometimes I will be lazy and scum will not get individual PMs, and their specific roles will be given out in the QT, so I just tell them they are scum and give QT.
Some Quick Q+A:
Q: When can the Witch Hunter shoot? Does the thread know a bullet has been fired? When is a person vulnerable to his shot? What happens? A: The Witch Hunter can shoot at ANY time. The thread won't know until the target is flipped, because he shoots by PMing me and the co-hosts. If the shot is successful, the target will be flipped at the end of the phase and will be dead, no longer in the game. This can happen during the day or the night. You are vulnerable to a Witch Hunter bullet for 72 hours after winning a witchcraft election. So if you earn your powers at the start of N1, you're vulnerable until the start of N2.
Q: What happens if the Witch Hunter misses? A: Nobody is informed except for the Witch Hunter / Scum QT.
Q: Do Silver Bullets work on Masonry Targets? A: Silver bullets only work on people who won the Witchcraft Election. Targets of powers are not vulnerable to Silver Bullets just because they were targeted.
Q: So how exactly should I send in my witchcraft votes? Do I have to cast witchcraft votes? A: PM me and the co-hosts any time during the day with a PM like this: "I am casting witchcraft for Blazinghand, Richard Nixon, and James Madison." and your votes will be allocated to them. You must vote. You can change your votes.
Q: Can scum cast witchcraft votes? A: No.
Q: Is the miller self-aware? A: No.
Q: Can scum win witchcraft? What happens? A: If a scum player wins witchcraft he is informed of this fact, but can't pick a power from the list. If he wants to he can use a power from his holy pages.
Q: Can't town just claim who they voted for to be blues? A: You're certainly allowed to do this, but beware the Witch Hunter and his silver bullets!
Q: Okay, I won witchcraft. Now what? A: Send me and the co-hosts your 3 top night actions based on the witchcraft menu. The player with the most votes picks first. So for example you could PM me and the co-hosts: "1) Scry on Richard Nixon, 2) Blaspheme against William Howard Taft, 3) Hex against Walter Cronkite". Let's say you had the third most votes-- guy #1 picks Scrying, and guy #2 picks Morph, so your action will be Blasphemy against William Howard Taft.
Q: I want to ask more questions. A: Pre-game you can ask them in thread. Once the game has begun, ask them via PM, or in the scum QT. I will answer them via response PM and/or post the answer here in the OP. Don't ask questions in thread and expect a direct answer in thread, though feel free to ask away-- if it's something like "herp derp I forgot the deadline" then yeah ask it in the thread, though leave out the "herp derp" that's so last year.
Q: The setup actually is a little complicated.... it does mean that town may vote in a mafia to be blue right? A: Yes. But the mafia can't use a power, basically Witchcraft is wasted if used on a Catholic. Make sure to elect town players! More detail: + Show Spoiler + Correct, a Scum player can win the Witchcraft Election. However, the winner(s) of the election each day are not revealed to the thread. If a scum player wins the Witchcraft election, he can't use any powers or anything, but it means the town has one less blue that night. So if Alice, Bob, and Cassandra are playing, and Bob is scum-- and Alice, Bob, and Cassandra all get elected, the town only gets 2 blues, not 3 that night. Bob absorbs the witchcraft power and makes it useless.
Basically as town you can choose to give powers to the most trustworthy (or least likely to get killed) people, but if scum is smart and manages to get a power instead, the scum are rewarded by there being one less blue power for the night.
I guess i'll be a bit more straightforwards and do a mock setup below to show how it could work:
EXAMPLE Adam Barry Casey Daniel (scum) Elephant Freddie 5 out of 10 townies remain 1 out of 3 scum remain
With 4 townies alive, the election is for 1 blue. During the day, votes happen. Adam votes to lynch Barry and give powers to Casey. Barry votes to lynch Daniel and give powers to Adam. Casey votes to lynch Barry and give powers to Daniel. Daniel votes to lynch Barry and give powers to Elephant. Elephant votes to lynch Barry and give powers to Daniel. Freddie votes to lynch Daniel and give powers to Barry.
Barry lynched with 4 votes Daniel witchcrafted with 2 votes.
Barry is lynched, and Daniel wins powers for the night. Because Daniel is scum, he can't use the powers, but because he got the powers, no townie gets to use them either!
Q: Is there any way for a Witch Hunter to get more bullets? A: No.
Q: If you win the Witchcraft election, do you get powers forever or what? A: If you win the Witchcraft election, you get to use one power from the list during the night following the election, and that's it. You'll be vulnerable to silver bullets that night and the following day. The power pool refreshes every day.
Q: Is a flip for an empowered acolyte different than a flip for a regular acolyte? A: No, all acolytes flip "acolyte" regardless of having powers or not.
Q: Does the Morph power (Veteran) protect you from Silver Bullets? A: No, it just protects you from the NK.
Q: How does the miller flip? A: The miller flips as a "Baptized Acolyte", rather than Acolyte. If he dies, you will know he has died and there are no more millers in the game.
Q: Can we chose to witchcraft vote for no one? A: No. You must vote for people during witchcraft elections.
Q: Can we abstain from witchcraft votes? A: No. Failing to cast a witchcraft vote, as a townie, is considered inactivity and will result in a warning or modkill. You will usually be warned before the end of the day if you have not cast a witchcraft vote.
Q: What happens if an empowered acolyte gets roleblocked? Does he still have a power? A: He still has his power as though he wasn't roleblocked. The only thing that changes is he does not actually do anything with the power, but it's still used up so others can't use it that night. The order of actions is this: 1) powers are distributed 2) scum RB, if any, hits 3) town RB, if any, hits 4) other powers hit
Q: Is a witch informed of what power he used at night? A: Yes. The witch receieves a pm at the end of the night with something like "you used power X, and got result Y".
Q: What cop result do you get if you're roleblocked? A: If you are roleblocked, he gets a pm like "you used power X, and got no result, because you were roleblocked"
Q: What if you have a power that doesn't normally give a result (like Hexing) and you get roleblocked? A: If you have a power that returns no result, you aren't told either way if you're roleblocked. You are still told what power you "used" though. So if you Hex someone but are roleblocked, you get a PM that says "you used Hex", same as if you weren't roleblocked.
Q: What if you have no powers and you get roleblocked? A: Nothing happens, you get no PM or anything.
Q: Can roleblock stop scum factional KP? A: Yes. If the scum delivering the factional KP is RBed, the KP is not delivered.
Q: What is the order of roleblock resolution? A: Holy Pages / Scum Roleblock, then Hex, then Curse.
Q: Does roleblock stop scum from using their powers, like Silver Bullet? A: Roleblock does not interfere with the Godfather power, and has no impact on the ability of scum to use Silver Bullet. It does, however, stop scum from using their Mason power, and it can block KP deliveries.
Q: Are players notified of Silver Bullet misses? A: No.
Q: Are players notified of hits? A: If they're Veteran and survive, then yes. Otherwise, no.
Q: Can you cast a Witchcraft Vote for yourself? A: No.
Q: What does Morph do? A: Makes you immune to regular Mafia NK
Q: What happens if you Hex the mafia delivering the KP? What about Curse? A: The KP is unaffected by Hexing the deliverer. Hexing the target will save him. Cursing the deliverer will block the KP.
Q: Does Hex/Curse stop Silver Bullet? A: Hex/Cursing the Witch Hunter stops Silver Bullet during the night, but the bullet is refunded. Also he can shoot again in the day. Hexing the target of a Silver Bullet will not protect him from Silver Bullet.
Q: What happens in a Witchcraft Vote Tie? Like if two people had 4 votes, who has priority if they both want the same power, or if there's only one witchcraft slot? A: Whoever got to the 4 votes first gets Witchcraft. If both got to 4 votes at the same time, whoever was put in position #1 for witchcraft vote submissions more. So, if I said I'm voting for FDR, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan, my FDR vote would be a "position one" vote, and the fact that he was my #1 vote would be used for tiebreakers. If both candidates have the same number of "position one" votes, whoever got their first "position one" vote first is the tiebreaker.
