Monday 3/16:
Another week and another successful Squat Day! The sixth rep on today's 5+ attempt was a real challenge. I was ecstatic with the effort of the day. The glute-ham negs were a bit rusty but still strong. I'm going to up them to 5x6 from 5x5. Starting to hit all 5 consistently.
Speaking of assistance work, now that my pull-up bar no longer freezes my hand on contact, I'm going to try and incorporate a bit of Grease the Groove into my 5/3/1 to up my chin-up numbers. The stall I'm experiencing on chinups needs to be addressed and I think this will be the best way. Also next week I'm going to swap the assistance work so I'll be doing 5x10 of the alternate exercise as well as whatever supplemental motions accompany them. Should be a change of pace and fun!
My current go-to book-on-tape is The Power of Habit, a book I would strongly suggest to anyone. The book itself is well-formed and accessible. My only minor gripe is that the actor for the edition that I have available isn't to my taste... But after Dick Hill I'm a bit spoiled.
With the Power of Habit in mind, I've made some changes to my daily routine. Instead of the public posting of daily goals and benchmarks, I've opted to use Google Keep to share with only my wife (which also coordinates grocery lists nicely). As I try to improve my meditation practice, I've also given myself a consistent reward after the session of a quick shoulder self-massage and tennis ball session. The tennis ball does wonders in between my shoulder blades. I find myself looking forward to meditation sessions more now than before. We'll see what happens!
Off to do a late-night baby practice session while watching Misaeng! Have a good one!
Tuesday 3/17:
Sadly, many of the updates this week will be have to be phoned in as I have a terrible travel week ahead of me. I'll be rehearsing 3-8 hours a day while driving at least 5 hours on top of that. Getting my daily reqs in well be quite a challenge, but I'll do my best. With that in mind, I probably won't be able to update the little symbology with each date until the end of the week. Today I had silver practice with all food and weight accomplishments and also did some self hypno. Good day overall!
Wednesday 3/18:
Wooowhee... Second day squat DOMS are no fun at all! The little impromptu rowing HIIT session I did yesterday probably didn't help as much as a longer session alternative. Oh well, hindsight is 20-20. Crazy crazy day today but I've cut out enough time for Press Day. Will keep this posted later!
I kicked my wife off of Cities:Skylines during one of my 90free minutes to quickly update this blog. Press Day was abridged obviously because of time constraints, so I only finished my main 5/3/1 lift and one accessory exercise. I only hit 3 on the 3+, so two months from now I might do a reload... We'll see. What can ya do? Off to stressful work.
Thursday 3/19:
Nailed Deadlift Day with a 5 on my 3+ day. This totally makes up for the previous weeks fail in my eyes. I'm getting the bar better now and didn't suffer a skin pinch in the workout. That shit feels like it will to calluses and tissue right open....
Friday 3/20:
Got to today's rehearsal a bit early so I'm able to write a bit by phone... Damn does diving suck the life out of me after a while. 5 hours of commuting is no fun at all. Books on tape help pass the time but don't eliminate the fatigue I feel. The main thing to help I find is keeping his nutrition and water levels, but water levels are tricky when you drive 2.5 and don't want to stop to pee. Oh well. I also have the bad habit of craving sweets when on long drives. To compensate for this I chess a great deal of sugar free gum, but it feels a bit humbling to enter upwards of 10 sticks of gum into MyFitnessPal. Hehe what can ya do?
About to head into another rehearsal so wish me luck. I'm paying with a new ensemble in a newish city for me but still see some faces I recognize so that nice. Don't know if I'll pay here again as the commute is just a killer.
