Monday 9/29:
Off to a good start! The impetus from last week to get two solid sessions and exercise in before spending time at the computer is awesome! I'm feeling so much more productive and focused. I've always felt more focused early in the day and making sure that I dedicate those hours to advancing music is definitely a step in the right direction!
Today marks the beginning of Month 2 for my 5/3/1 Lifting Program and I am loving it! Today's workout I lifted 6x at the same weight I lifted 3x last month. The Big But Boring variation of the lifting program that I doing is pretty much exactly that however.... After this month, I'm probably going to switch over to the Bodyweight variation as I love the feel of doing lots of chin-ups and dips. In particular, my custom built dip bar is feeling lonely and looking at me whenever I go downstairs .
Props to FFGenerations for giving me some great stretching tips! My hamstrings finally feel like they're opening up! Ahhh sooo nice.
This week I feel the need to commit to posting write-ups every day. The days that I don't post are almost invariably less productive or confidence-undermining in retrospect. Just post up and take accountability for the day.
Blood Bowl!! Cyanide sucks so much and hasn't paid for good US servers, so today my opponent did a make-up match for the previous week's stymied date. I was pretty nervous going for two reasons: he's in a close third to me in the standings and I've never played against undead before. In the end though, I was pretty happy with the draw I mustered. My first half rolls were complete shit, doubling 1s on a 1+ skill check... This prevented me from getting the win, but I knock some ghouls out of commission and got level-ups on some key key players. My Minotaur will hopefully have at least tentacles next game (or if I'm super lucky Block!!!). Good stuff. Everyone in the OCC is super friendly and helpful to boot. I strongly suggest playing in the league if you have interest.
Tuesday 9/30:
A rather busy and rather frustrating day today.... Had a gig this afternoon that went painfully long in both time and chop commitment. This is going to sound heartless, but never give a microphone to elderly people. A ceremony that with two senators and a governor speaking should only take 45minutes went close to 2 hours. Uuugh... It was hilarious to watch the governor checking his watch conspicuously though. Bad form...
Got back from that later than expected and did my couple sessions and deadlift day. Dead day really takes it out of me... On the 5x10 I have to deload pretty heavily to keep form consistent. I'm always beat by the end of it. Also, with the upped weight, I was only able to do 5x on the last set. Hopefully I'll hit the benchmarks for the 3x and 1x sets.
I'm also going to take a video on my form on the DL and post it to the TL help thread... I think I'm doing something funny and need to isolate just what... Oh well. We'll see.
Practice was only so-so today and I'm kinda bummed about it. I spent a good deal of time on work stuff today, not audition prep. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day.
Wednesday 10/1:
Today I got my rank back in CSGO after being autodemoted due to a teamkill! Woohoo! That felt nice. Also I lowered my sens again to 1.4/800. It's feeling pretty nice.
But more importantly practice was better today. Full morning rehearsal and two sessions before computer worked nicely again. A later excerpt practice was pretty good as well. Not much to add tonight, just kinda tired and ready to sleep to tomorrow.
Thursday 10/2:
Doing a quick phone update. I would call today a smashing success as I had limited time to get everything I wanted to accomplish out of the way. The wife and I made a pilgrimage to hear Berlin Phil in Carnegie last night and it was absolutely amazing. They are hands down the best orchestra in the world by a substantial portion and it was amazing to hear them live. I haven't been moved to tears by a live concert in years.... And thus is despite being perpetually annoyed by European oboe sounds. It was a very special night all around. Stephan Dohr is a good among men. The ease and efficiency and pure musicianship he displayed stole the show. But the strings lived up their billing. And it wasn't just dynamic contrast and overall ensemble play... they were able to attain colors I've never heard before from a string section. Just absolutely amazing to hear and something I'll carry with me for a long long time.
Friday 10/3:
A lower energy day as I tried to recover from the lack of sleep last night. Sleep accumulation heading into auditions is very important, so I'm about to retire an hour early and read quietly. Nailed some final prep practice and some mental prep work. Wish me luck on the baby audition tomorrow! If I get back before 9pm, I'm going to try and get my squat session in so that I can begin the new week fresh on monday. We'll see though.
Saturday 10/4:
The audition... did not go particularly well on my part. I just didn't have the concentration and mental toughness to sustain me through the rounds. I made all the final rounds but didn't win the spot. At least I know what I need to work on! I'll be gameplanning that with the wife and will include the action plan with next week's blog post.
Sunday 10/5:
Knocked out my squat session immediately prior to helping a friend move his house.. Whew did that make for a long morning! After the move, we all ran over to play the afternoon concert. The practice session I accomplished before the concert was great actually! A real refocusing on good fundamentals. Consequently, the concert felt pretty darn good. I was very happy with how I played when playing principal in particular.
Other than that, the day was rife with bad eating opportunities which I deftly avoided. Dominoes was delivered after the move (I ate my chicken and rice) and pumpkin-tinis and pumpkin cheesecake were on display for the after-party (I stuck with the pumpkin soup and a ravioli serving). All-in-all a successful day diet-wise.
But I can't help but feel frustrated at my overall weightloss at this point. I'm eating 1700-2100 calories a day and not really losing weight... It's super frustrating because my basal rate should be pumping at 2400+... Ugh. I'll give it another 2 weeks at 1800 with upped protein. Going to shoot for eating 150g of quality protein a day and upping my fats to 50-90g. I think both have been lacking in the past months.
