Monday 9/8:
Monday was a rather frustrating day due in part to my failure to get the blog posted. I had a quite productive morning, but got sucked into Hearthstone in an unproductive fashion later in the day. As of this post, my play of HS is going to be curbed somewhat. I just don't get as much out of the process of improving in that game as I do with something like SC2 or CSGO.
Practice stagnated after 3 good sessions, and I felt like I let myself down in that regard. I really wanted to knock out a mock audition but failed to do that or even some baby mock starts.... Ugh.
At least we had a nice Mid-Autumn Festival dinner with the wife! Mooncake is great! Get the good stuff, not the faux-lotus knockoffs for sure.
Tuesday 9/9:
Today is off to a good start! This morning's practice, despite the lack of adequate practice space at work, was quite quite good! I spent a good portion of time focusing on playing exactly in the center of the note and letting the horn do the work. Really felt nice to blow through efficiently. I find myself bending and weaving moreso when I play at work. The inefficiencies just compile upon themselves when playing in an ensemble in which you can't hear yourself 45% of the time. I really have to commit to not contributing to noise pollution while focusing on fundamentals... Ok... /rant
On to the rest of the day! Which went very well! I was happy with the rest of the day and the mock auditions I ran. Good stuff by and large.
Wednesday 9/10:
Honestly this was an underwhelming day. This was the first of the days that I gradually purge caffeine from my system, always an arduous process. Consequently, I felt tired and hungry while sporting a nasty headache for most of the day. I got two pretty good sessions in but nothing to write home about.
I did suck it up and get deadlift day done. Today's form on the 5x10 sets was much better and I didn't feel the massive lower back activation that I felt last week. The extra focus on valsalva and the fixed back paid dividends. I'm definitely de-loading the weight on the 5x10s as prescribed in the book. Damn does it make a difference.
Thursday 9/11:
Today, I decided to act on the thought that I don't get nearly as much done when I sit and spend time on the computer. I did have a lazier day, but spent it downstairs watching Mostly Walking for a good portion of the day :-). I did get a nice nap, a good Blood Bowl game, and multiple good practice sessions. Not bad for a good day off!
The Blood Bowl game was against some crafty sneaky Skaven who were understaffed from previous bloodbath vs. some Ogres. They entered the game with a TV 600k short of mine! With that they were able to purchase a very very scare MVP who cut down my team several times during the game. I was able on turns 6 and 14 to knock him out however with some lucky rolls and mitigate the damage. The skaven rushed down the field early, establishing a foothold in the center of my back field. Even though he knocked my Minotaur down and out for the first 4 turns, I was able to slowly strangehold the early aggression and squeeze the life out of their little rat bodies, one by one. The turnover happened on turn 4, and I was able to hold off the potential re-take, but not advance the ball. I took some risks on turn 7 and left a potential scoring opportunity open on turn 8 with my bad play, but the rolls (and his lack of RR) were in my favor in the end. The halftime was scoreless. The next half I advanced slowly but surely into scoring position and passed the ball on turn 13, getting a second level-up on a Warrior! With the MVP falling on a higher leveled Beast, I was able to garner two level ups for next game! Looking good!
