David Cooper is the fucking man! That sound!
Time to get back to it! Yesterday was a glorious little vacation day with the wife. With my travelling so much last week and being stressed throughout, my wife declared Monday a vacation and date day . We caught Imitation Game, a movie she's been wanting to see for a while and also checked out another episode in our slow viewing of Reply 1997. It was a lovely day, but updating the blog and practicing fell to the wayside. The day's de-load workout was completed, but not much else.
I did however knock out the final game of the Blood Bowl season, and at the same time get knocked down to last in the standings. Once again my luck was remarkably bad. Inducements brought me access to a Lord Borak the Despoiler who I was hoping would crush some dirty elves into pulp. On turn 4 however he rolled two double-downs (a .08% chance of happening) and then proceeded to Casualty himself (at a 4.2% chance) and remove himself from game. Ugh.... On top of this amazing string of bad luck, I had 4 wasted minotaur blitzes (a 2+ dice fail). My opponent was gracious however and offered some good advice as I was playing really timidly after a third of my blitzes failed. Next season will be better!
Good news on the Blood Bowl front though! I did roll and amazing 12 on a Chaos Warrior turning him into a STR5 Juggernaut! Can't wait to get tentacles on him!
Today began with a buzzing, clattering and some local anesthetic as I completed some minor dental surgery. I was unable to practice all morning, but is sure was fun doing Two-Face impressions over coffee. Practicing after was refreshing but unremarkable.
I've reached something of an impasse with Dark Souls. This first run is complete at ~30hours and a 1.5 weeks in. It's been great! It's so fun to play through with the wife backseat gaming :D. Not since Skyrim have we had this much fun together. But I'm at the point where I need to figure out whether to buy the expansions now or wait for the bullshit Scholar of the First Sin to release as that will include all previous content... Grr.... To the TL Other Games forum!
This week I want to start playing CS:GO again.... Been away from it for a while and I'm itching to get back into a bit.
Wednesday 1/21:
Usually recording sessions are stressful, demanding and incredibly time-consuming undertakings. Thankfully, when you're recording a bunch of worthless marches all of the usual stresses of a recording session fade away. I spent most of mine this morning reading up on my Blood Bowl strategies and also researching cheap miniatures options. Man I wish I had taken the plunge on the Bones 2 Kickstarter.... At 150$ today it's still not a bad deal, but the original 100 would be just insane. Granted that came with a 1.4 year wait time. Yea perhaps 150 isn't too bad for the year of aggravation.
A good practice session today! I'm about to head out and do the final de-load workout and walk the puppy.
I also am tempering my DS2 time somewhat. The wife wants me to do a playthrough with a sorcerer for contrast and that seems like the best option for now. Admittedly, I'm a bit under-enthused about starting fresh right now. I did however fire up the Wasteland 2 campaign that I've been planning for a while, and also played a bit of Covert Action, one of my favorite games in my early childhood. It translates pretty well and is still challenging and fun!

Another recording session this morning passed without incident. The only thing of note was that I explored the world of Peter Jackson's Sorcery and found it delightful! It was the perfect timesink for tedium
Saturday 1/24:
Yay!!! A good day thus far! This morning I knocked out a good practice session leading into a pretty good Press Day. I was only able to get 6 on my 5+, but Press is my weaker lift right now so I'm not too surprised by that. We'll see how the remainder of the workouts progresses.
D&D tonight!!! Wooohooo! The last two hours have been devoted to setting up tonight's action, and I'm super pumped at the prospect. I feel my strength as a DM is in reacting to initiative developed by the characters. I absolutely love the improv environment of the "yes, and..." answer to a character question. It's just something that tickles me pink. Second to that is world-building, but that's another topic entirely. My group of late just doesn't seem to be taking initiative or exploring as much as I would hope they would. And when they do explore it's somewhat listless and haphazard. They don't assess situations before jumping into action. Recently, they were punished severely for under-estimating a drow mage and getting pummeled by a massive cone of cold.
At any rate, I ramble.... Tonight I'm upping the ante, giving them a bit more guidance in the adventure and accelerating the rate of discovery. I'm also going to make a concerted effort to improve ambiance and descriptions of environs throughout the night. At least one fight tonight will also feature a terrain trap or impediment to spice things up. Hoping it's fun!!! Looking forward to it.
Sidenote: I've been practicing Blood Bowl pretty consistently of late! It's taken the place of CS:GO for now. My practice is two-fold: watching replays of RTSD a OCC D1 Chaos player, and playing more 2min/turn pickup games in Nagg. I'm contemplating reaching out to the BBTactics forum for coaching, but that will probably be next week.
