Monday 10/20:
And so begins the mental toughness/resiliency week.... Honestly, I'm in a pretty blue state right now regarding work, my progress, and the process of improving in general. I'm spending too much energy focusing on end-goals and where my career "should be," (the plague of my mental toughness and concentration) and this is sapping my motivation and energy levels.
With that in mind, I'm going take my process a day at a time literally. While I am working on the rep for the auditions I have in a couple weeks, I'll be focusing only on what I aim to accomplish during that day with limited longer range goals set to the side. Staying in the moment and focusing on the process of daily improvement while monitoring self-talk at all times is the goal.
After a month or so of sniping on Craigslist, I picked up the fifty-pound weight vest I've been gunning for (that's ~28kg for the more enlightened parts of the world)! With this I hope to include my dog's exercise into my own routine. He's a six-year old Lhasa Apso mix that gets winded whenever we get close to two miles of walking. His low energy levels are actually pretty ridiculous. While he does make a perfect apartment dog, I do wish sometimes I had a dog that could run along side me. Oh well....
Evening brought a set of good practice sessions, a Modern Family date night, and loot drop win on my alt account! Good stuff!
Tuesday 10/21:
It may be a little early to tell, but I believe the melatonin my brother suggested as a sleep aid may be effective! Last night in particular, I slept continuously through the night waking only 10min before my alarm to vacate my bladder. It felt so good that I didn't take my usual 30min early afternoon powernap, which actually was somewhat counter productive because I got sucked into some Divinity:OS... . oh well....
Deadlift day just ended with some back activation achiness. Nothing pointed, but definitely present. Hmm... Next session will be important. I will videotape that one for the TLFI guys.
That TLFI post may include some requests for diet help.... The weight just isn't coming off as well as I'd hoped. Eating 1.8-2k calories isn't peeling pounds off at the expected pace. This is quite frustrating.... I'm contemplating an extended slightly above maintenance bulk, but who knows what's correct? I'm just pretty frustrated at this point.
Wednesday 10/22:
Morning work was rife with frustrations and pitfalls as I failed to center myself before a couple of big moments in the performance. We musicians have a penchant for focusing on the mistakes instead of letting them go and focusing on what's to come. This morning, that behavior really caught up with me early in the performance. Once I realized what I was doing though, I was able to pull myself out of it and focus on staying in the moment no matter what. The performance went and felt better after I pulled my head back into the right place.
Our sissy opponents cancelled the flag football game that was scheduled for just after work, so I was able to get a small weight-vest walk in with the puppy. Currently the weight vest is set to 25lbs and I'll be slowing adjusting that up to 40-50 as my joints get used to the load. I did some reading online of some bb.com threads and am taking extra care to avoid joint injury. Particularly impactful I find is consciously making my footfalls mid-foot and under center-mass, just like running. Any heel strokes instantly send pressure up my legs.
What a great day!! Had a great couple sessions of practice and also secured my birthday present to myself! For the longest time I was going to set aside my bday and xmas present from my wife for the 250$ investment in this two-monitor mount, but the latest Massdrop is going allow me to get the setup I want for 100$ cheaper!! Sooo awesome!
Thursday 10/23:
Quick after-the-fact update for this day. I had 5 hours of rehearsal and 3 of commuting, but still wake up and nailed my morning practice and workout routines. Spent a bit of time for downtime in the afternoon Divinity-ing, but was super productive for the rest of the day. I forewent the group dinner to eat my pre-packaged healthy food, practice an extra hour, and knock out my self-hypnosis. Good stuff!
Friday 10/24:
Good work thus far! Morning rehearsal was cancelled so I was able to get a good amount of practice and mental prep! Time for a quick power nap before 3 hours of driving and another 5 of rehearsal.

Sunday 10/26:
A great great day! The attention and focus on mindset has been paying off! Had a great set of early sessions and am lined up for a mock and small third session as soon as I finish this entry.
The OCC Blood Bowl League is over! I ended up taking second place in my group after a close-fought match vs the #1 seed just this morning! It was a very good game in which I was outclassed. The other player made great decisions with some pretty good die rolls on his side. I was able to procure one TD (only the third scored against him all season!) but it wasn't enough and his double Blitz kickoffs set him up to score twice against me. Really good and interesting game in which I was able to recognize my misplays. My opponent offered great advice to boot.
I played a couple CSGO's with my brother and he's actively improving by leaps and bounds.... I need need need to practice my aim! Let's do this! Let's chart the progress and see what we can do. I hate feeling like I'm undercontributing to him... One game he obviously out performed me and the second I was able to keep it relatively even. Oh well. Practice time for sure!!
