Wednesday 11/19:
I cannot adequately describe how good it feels to be back home again. Immediately following my successful audition run, the only thing I wanted to do was to go back home and practice. After touching base with my old teacher and some friends, I was bursting with good ideas and energy for my own improvement. Issues in my playing that I've been dealing with were addressed in some of the lessons I audited and I couldn't wait to implement them.
That impetus towards self-improvement had to be waylaid somewhat though, as the next week was consigned to a Puerto Rican tour. The initial workload didn't leave much time in the schedule for practice sadly, and I felt myself submerging into frustration over the first several days. We finally had a light day in which I could practice after a spell, but nothing compares to getting home and having all my time to myself.
Puerto Rico itself was beautiful though! I loved the 90deg weather and the sunshine! Old San Juan, its forts and the surrounding ocean front was breathtakingly beautiful. My one complaint for the trip was the island mentality of the service industry.... Waiting for 25 minutes in a Kmart checkout line and having to insist on coffee/water refills irked me somewhat.
Re-acclimation to the lifting routine is going to take a little bit of time. I'll spend this week doing the down-week of the current program and then begin a new program next Tuesday. That will establish daily workouts but also ease me into the process. Sadly, Puerto Rico and Dallas/Houston didn't have readily accessible lifting options (though in truth I didn't look extensively for Texas trip as I knew I'd be pushed to my limit as it was).
Time to settle in for work!! This week, in one of my local orchestra gigs, I'll be playing some Chairman Dances which I haven't played since high school. Should be fun to play an oldie but a goodie!
Press Day was pretty straightforward. Sorry it won't register on my JeFit profile! I forgot to update the routine and couldn't be bothered in the moment to manually customize the program on the fly. It's not the most user-friendly app, and I didn't feel like taking off my gloves as it's 30 degrees in my workout space. One more practice session and some self-hypno before tonight's opening rehearsal.
Thursday 11/20:
This will be the last sissy day of not weighing-in! While I'm not looking forward to the damage done during my travels, my body recomposition will be a long process. Now that I think about it, it will be good to know exactly how much two weeks' worth of mixed diet and spotty exercise will set me back. It's just information... not a value judgement on myself ... keep repeating that. Looking forward to Deads day!
I'm about to head into a Blood Bowl match against a fearsome looking Norse Squad. They are much better leveled than I and feature some fearsome looking killing pieces.... I hope I survive intact as my av8-9 has been failing me of late. The gameplan is to play defensively and try to snipe the pieces he presents.... This is a matchup where I sorely miss Jasnah Kohlin II, my recently slain Killer Beastman. Oh well... what can ya do? Wish me luck!!!
Oh man.... that game was a poor poor effort from start to finish.... I made two rather huge errors on the first drive and was soundly punished for my mistakes. My early cage and ball retrieval efforts went well, but I failed to account for a werewolf's tackle zone after a risky dodge attempt, and he was able to blitz my ball carrier down. After that, I failed an earlier than necessary Minotaur double down re-roll. My dice were abysmal this game to boot, but my play wasn't much better. I had a total of 4 double downs, two failed 2+ Wild Animal rolls (wasting my blitzes!!), and one amazing failed triple-down. I've never seen 3 red death heads together before. Of course the RR failed.... Hurray hurrah. My opponent soundly trounced me, but I was able to maintain some dignity in gouging his big guy's eye and scoring on the final turn to bring it to a respectable 1-2 loss. Oh well. Poor poor play on my part for sure.
Friday 11/21:
Today was a fairly busy day all things considered. All the major subsets of things I wanted to accomplish were handled. The dog and I walked for a mile or so with myself ramping up the weight vest to 35 pounds. I prepared the wiki for Temerant, the upcoming DnD 5e open play group. In addition, I prepared my custom dnd screen with some good reddit-sourced materials. I also got some good practice in and also prepped a couple pieces that I've been asked to principal on this weekend. Yea, I feel like I've accomplished a fair amount but somehow I still feel underwhelmed and under-energized. Hmm... It's probably due to lack of sleep. I only got just under 7 hours last night and have been dragging most of the day.
For the rest of the day, I'll get one self-hypno session in and another small practice session. Other than that I'll be trying to take it a bit easy and collect myself for tonight's sight-reading.
Saturday 11/22:
Tonight's concert went particularly well! Offering to swap over and play principal on some of the smaller pieces paid off as I got to play first on a Dvorak Romance with some nice horn parts. I got some good feedback on it and was pretty happy in general.
Other than that the day was pretty productive. I had to curb practice time for general face preparedness. My mental prep session went a little hazy halfway through and I fear I fell asleep for a moment or two... Oh well. No harm no foul. My lifting session was forgotten today as I misremembered the rehearsal/concert schedule and ran out of time in between the two sessions.
Right now I'm kicking back with a Yuengling and hopefully some csgo with my bro!
