How reliable is this benchmark in terms of real performance? And how does the 960t at 4.0 compare to the PHENOM II 975 at 3.5 in games especially.

A lot of higher end systems isolate the rads to avoid this entirely, either by moving them, or by using multiple loops, so that nothing is air cooled. For only CPU, sometimes yes, sometimes no. You'll get ideal CPU cooling by using outside air across the rad, with an intake fan. However, if you're dumping the air into your case without a top exhaust, and don't have isolated GPU airflow, then yes, it can increase temps for them. Cooling in general is NOT a simple question or answer though. It might merit it's own thread, but it would need to be a collaborative effort most likely, and done by someone with the inclination to keep the OP updated. Definitely more of a "Broad question, Novella answer".

There are no benchmarks for this on the entire series of tubes, err: internet. benchmark: + Show Spoiler + ![]() How reliable is this benchmark in terms of real performance? And how does the 960t at 4.0 compare to the PHENOM II 975 at 3.5 in games especially. 3.6 sounds reasonable for a beginner, though I bet most could do 3.8 without breaking a sweat. Benchmark seems pretty reliable and about in line with what I've seen in many others. 960T compares pretty directly to the other 9xx series, though being a "Thuban" core (hence the T), I believe it has a better memory controller and possibly lower cache/memory latency, which benefits games quite a bit. With a northbridge overclock as well, the 960T will beat the i3 in most scenarios, but that costs more because one would have to get: 1) a decent motherboard 2) some decent air cooling This would add at least ~$50 more to the build, at which point one could get an i5 (which would leave any Phenom II in the dust, even compared to a typical overclock or even atypical such as 4.2GHz+ which is somewhat rare)

every time I leave the room to use the washroom/get food or drink, come back and just as I pass my desktop tower it to take a seat the desktop either shuts down and boots up again or restarts, its getting quite annoying, anyone know why this happens? any solution to fix this problem? sometimes I get lucky and it doesn't shutdown/restart on me.

Well, either you're so charming your personal magnetism is interfering with the electronics, your footsteps are shaking a loose connection, or you have some other sort of issue and bizarre timing. Or you're trolling, I suppose we can't ignore that distinct possibility.

Otherwise, get an exorcist. I'd recommend the traditional Korean kind, but if you're kind of anti-idolatry, I'm sure the local Catholic church can hook you up.

Basically, it lets you remove a variable and see if the problem still occurs. I DOUBT it's the power or reset buttons, but it's possible. Try checking your outlet first, though, like he said. Also verify that all your various power cables from the PSU are firmly connected, especially the ones to the motherboard.

Jinglehell is pointing you in the correct direction overall - same idea just more helpful and less specific. Somewhere there's a loose connection that responds to minute vibration. Or Jinglehell's wife is smarter than all of us. Very possible. Don't discount the exorcists, though. I mean, they might have solved their own computer problems at some point. ![]()

I never did find out what the root cause of it was except that maybe the coax being passed through the door under carpeting was being crimped introducing too much noise or power drop. I had to sidestep the issue and just install the modem at the basement and run cat5e the whole building.
