Would need biggest implosion by Arsenal in their history plus utd winning all games. No way both things will happen together

Was surprised to see Ajax drop out to Benfica. After their group stage they were looking like dark horses for the whole thing

Ajax never found that last good touch or shot, Benfica defended well and had 1 set piece from a soft call and scored from it. After that, the usual shithousery made sure no football was being played for the last 20 minutes. Not quite as dirty as Getafe though, gotta give 'em that.

So saudies are fine, they can buy all the PL clubs they want. Only if the combo of football governance and actual government let them, as they did with Newcastle.
But let’s not pretend there wasn’t a huge amount of public outrage and NGO lobbying to prevent that particular transaction.
United weren’t too terrible last night in football news, not great either. They struggled to create much of anything and Atleti did their thing, but nothing too disgraceful. They’re a Ro16 level club these days, assuming they qualify for the thing.
Actually almost more excited for the Europa League these days, interesting ties and a good mix of names.
CL has the quality when we get to the deep end sure, but it’s increasingly a small group of the same teams every season.

It seems Dutch clubs have been eliminated in the last 7 eliminatories against Portuguese clubs in European cups, so a lot of people expected it despite Benfica being terrible in league this season, lol.

Sad that Tomiyasu isn't starting again, but I think that we can pull out a victory today. Will be a close match for sure

The pressure is really on with how defensive Liverpool and us are being. Given the performance so far, I think it'll probably end up 0-0

Hopefully not. A vocal minority (well I hope minority) of Chelsea fans have embarrassed themselves recently
Arsenal have been alright. Liverpool are just a better team, there’s a clear gap between the top 2 and the rest atm. And Chelsea and the rest of the league when they’re on song.
There’s still some gap to close, Arteta’s building quite a tidy unit, with a pretty young core and you can generally tell what they’re trying to do.
If I was an Arsenal fan I’d be pretty chuffed with the general trajectory and a return to the Champion’s League being doable, and pessimistic on them closing that other gap. It’s a bloody chasm at the minute

There was no way Arsenal wouldnt lose to Liverpool without Tomiyasu. The wins against lesser teams made Arsenal a bit arrogant again imo.

Yeah, that was sad on our part. I just want us to get back to CL at this point and use that to keep building

Ronaldo made Juve overachieve

Ronaldo made Juve overachieve To be honest, I don't think they were that good even with Ronaldo for the last two seasons. UCL exits vs Lyon and Porto and all that.
Securing a future key piece like Vlahovic and still managing to stay in UCL is probably as good as they could hope from this season.

Ronaldo made Juve overachieve They should be better, granted they’re taking time. Unlike say a Man United, it’s not purely a footballing thing.
A club like Juve, rich in Serie A terms yeah, Ronaldo is a huge financial strain to keep on board. Over time they couldn’t reinforce areas they needed reinforced in, so the overall squad has dropped a bit.
Ronaldo was bought to be the final cutting edge to take a squad that was competing in the latter CL stages, over that line. You either get over that line, or you rebuild and refresh a squad that’s been peaking for a few years, you couldn’t do both and IMO they made the wrong call.
Ronaldo is a giant millstone around club’s necks nowadays. There’s a select few, City notably for one I think could absorb him and benefit from his skillset.
Everyone else he’s effectively a deluxe Filippo Inzaghi at this stage, but an Inzaghi you’re getting pressured every time you bench him.
Juve were already railing league title after league title before he came in after all.
Sarri gets hired to play Sarriball and change Juve’s stile of play well, yeah you can’t. Novice coach like Pirlo, have fun dealing with the world’s most famous player who’s paid way more than the rest of your team. Ragnick’s no doubt loving the same scenario.
One selling point is the presence of an all time great and model pro in the dressing room rubbing off on the players around him. Have we seen that either? Ronaldo’s is a very personal professionalism, it’s the work he puts into his own game. If those around him are in a good place, I can see that aura and standards rubbing off.
If they are not, that can swiftly be intimidating and this is certainly not helped by his tendency to berate teammates constantly. Maybe it’s not a factor at all, I’m reading between the lines and other factors may come into play. Of all the players Ronaldo was meant to help teach the tricks of the trade it was Rashford (plus another), and his confidence looks utterly shot.
Ronaldo’s undoubted predatory instincts and clutch factor are only worth accommodation if the rest of a team doesn’t have to lose potency or balance to accommodate him.
If Ronaldo played like he doesn’t now, but was 22 I mean is he getting anywhere near some of these teams?
Went a bit TLDR, I’m not a hater, he’s been a great player to watch over the years. Be it on or off the pitch I don’t think what he currently brings does anything but have a net negative impact on clubs of a certain position nowadays.

tbh i agree that ronaldo has probably been a net negative for man utd since he joined. its great that hes pulled us out of a lot of poor games and moments like his hat trick are still enjoyable to watch, but the truth is his very inclusion in the squad puts us in scenarios where he has to be brilliant to get us out of. and the problem is ronaldo isnt good enough to do what he did close to 10 years ago which is just score goals for fun. if ronaldo wasnt at united we would have less clutch goals and highlights moments but the team would probably be pretty balanced overall. personally i thought ole did a great job last season and varane/sancho was going to solidify another top 2/3 finish. im pretty sure ronaldo joining last minute is what cost ole his job. the moment he joined we stopped playing counter attacking football and adopted some weird press, that clearly hadnt been worked on during pre season, most likely because ronaldo doesnt have the fitness to play counter attacking football.
