With so many characters, no single character has gotten enough screentime to be considered a "lead actor". The same thing happened back then with The Lord of the Rings, where all the "main" characters have been suggested to be nominated for best supporting actor/actress.

The question is: How much beyond seven are we going to do? Obviously we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven. [Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are] feel like there’s two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now. I would be open to anything that Dan and David wanted to do—about Game of Thrones, or any subject matter. […] It really would depend fully on what they wanted to do. I think you’re right, there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel, if George and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on the next few years of the show. We haven’t had any conversations about that at this point.

Ian McShane, best known for his terrifying turn as the foul-mouthed anti-hero of Deadwood, will be returning to HBO, by way of Westeros. According to Entertainment Weekly, McShane and his unsettling eyes have been cast in an undisclosed role for season six of Game of Thrones. Source

If McShane is to have a role in GoT I assume it will not be a small and insignificant one. If it is the role I think it is then I am actually abit hyped, even though I will probably imagine him to say "cocksucker!" every other sentence.

Wonder who he'll play. He's got such gravitas/power it has to be someone of real significance in this world, so the options are actually pretty limited for people we haven't seen yet. We've met the leadership of every house in Westeros, the leaders of Pentos and the important power players in Bravos. #LordOfLightIncarnateHype

I really loved Deadwood, and McShanes performance was superb. My biggest problem with McShane though is that I keep seeing Al in any role that McShane does, even the role McShane had in Kung Fu Panda. His performance in Deadwood was too good. All that talk of Deadwood, I knew I knew the name from somewhere. He's Lovejoy! Anyway, now I have to watch Deadwood ![]()

I don't think they can bring Stannis back, they built him up so the audience would root for him (it was pretty heavy-handed imo). Then pulled the rug out with Shireen and tore him down. You can't bring him back without walking that arc back. Not that that arc was great (like I said heavy-handed and cheap shock value), but I think the series is close enough to the end and any role Stannis could play inconsequential enough that they'll stick to their guns on this. I liked how the producers tried to deflect the hate they got for Stannis' arc on GRRM too. And maybe it really was how GRRM wanted Stannis' arc to end, in which case they definitely won't be bringing him back.

Before this I was not exactly rooting for him because before this season (including his scenes with Jon) he was just honestly one of the most boring subplots of the series with no real particular interesting events going on around him. The Shireen arc highlights how he knows what he has to do and even though he REALLY does not want to do it he believes that if he does not then she will die along with the rest of westeros so he has no winning move that saves his daughter. That choice actually made me respect him a lot more then I would have because he knew what had to be done.

@Plexa, it's interesting that you say his arc isn't really about him, because I think that's why I disliked it so much. The way they handled Ramsay's 20 good men for starters... This isn't Starcraft, you can't just send your reapers to cliff jump and the factory / supply depots aren't neatly labeled for you to torch in the middle of the night. Then they can't seem to decide how to handle the Red God. In Season 2 Mel birthed a shadow baby, Thoros raised Beric from the dead several times, Mel implied she could even control wildfyre! Then in later seasons she's wrong about everything, admits to Queen Selyse that she uses literal smoke and mirrors to get people to believe in her power (despite previously having actual power), she's powerless to manipulate the fires Ramsay's men set. I guess you can go 50-50 on if burning Shireen did anything (melted the snow, didn't bring Stannis victory), but that and the leeches all seemed to fall flat if we're supposed to believe she has real power. We'll see what they do with her next season. Fan theories already say she's conveniently at Castle Black to magic Jon Snow back to life, but how exactly has the show lead us to believe that's something she can do with all the undermining of her supernatural abilities to this point?
