SPOILER WARNING If you only watch the show, this thread will spoil you of future events in HBO's Game of Thrones. Thread contains discussion of all books of the series A Song of Ice and Fire Click Here for the spoiler-free thread.
And who are you, the proud lord said, that I must bow so low? Only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth I know. In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws, And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours. And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere, But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear. Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall, and not a soul to hear.
The production value isn't as good but I think it's way better. I love that little bit of history and it makes Tywin so much more awesome. For those of you wondering or who don't fully remember, the history is as follows if I recall correctly: - The lords of Castamere rebelled because they thought the Lannister's were weak (Tywin's father) - Tywin wasn't happy, obliterated the houses and burned all their shit down - Later, when some other dude was planning on rebelling, Tywin simply sent him an envoy who played this song. That was enough for him to reconsider.
I can't believe the tickler is dead. I'm raging hard right now. His death is my favorite scene from the books and I was really looking forward to see how they pull it off on TV. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU

They didn't build him up in the show at all. The only time he was ever mentioned by name was when the hit was ordered.
That doesn't mean that scene can't happen later... it just won't be the exactly same.

thanks for this, thanks a lot, i ll have the rains of Castamere on repeat Btw Tywin killed all of them, the Reynes (whose hall is Castamere) were made extinct, every one of them. And later he sent a bard to sing it not an envoy (nitpickingnitpicking)

I thought 'obliterated' was a strong enough word. Apparently not. But yeah, that's what I meant. =P
And a bard can be an envoy. :D Anyways, your welcome. I'm glad someone else enjoyed them.

A bard can be sent as an envoy ...
True, but Crazyeyes was also right in the first place.
"Some years later, when Lord Farman of Faircastle grew truculent, Lord Tywin sent an envoy bearing a lute instead of a letter. But once he'd heard "The Rains of Castamere" echoing through his hall, Lord Farman gave no further trouble." p.272 paperback aSoS/final page of Tyrion #3 aSoS.
What the literal fuck? Argjhhhhh this episode made me pissed on so many levels. Taking of Winterfell Capture of Ygritte (seriously? Could they have made that any cheesier?) Jeyne (thelesia???) Rodrik being killed (where is Reek!!) Amory (Did they drop vargo hoat?) Myrcella crying (when it spefically mentions she doesn't) Dothraki getting slaughtered/dragons getting stolen???

Hahahaha omg. I read this thread before watching the episode and now I'm laughing. I've read the books so I didn't think anyone could really spoiler something from the show, but the Dothraki getting slaughtered/dragons stolen - really?
some of the stuff made sense to move the plot along like osha freeing bran and rickon now so they can move out... i can also kinda understand robb falling for some random chick instead of jeyne westerling... but the dragons being stolen (by the warlocks i guess?), looks like they're cutting out dany taking on the slavers i think she's going to take over qarth now. that's okay too...

BUT
WHERE IS SER BARRISTAN THE BOLD
if they cut him out of the series im gonna be pissed
yeah but after she can't get ships from the rich guys of qarth she goes down to the docks to try to get some and that's when he shows up, i don't think that's going to happen now, i hope he does show up anyway but they'll have to introduce him in a different way now.

Seriously. I didn't mind the minor deviations from the book up to now for the sake of making it more accessible for tv, but they're just totally rewriting it now to the point where it's barely the same story. I just don't see the point of writing in the dragons getting stolen and writing out Jeyne, like at all.
Then they totally redo the whole Osha scenario to get some more tits in there, which they seem very dependent on to keep the non book readers interested. I guess they're just going to meet up with the Reeds later now too, or what. It would be kind of ridiculous if they're written out too.
It's kind of feeling like this is a turning point for the show where people watching it for a depiction of the books are going to be continuously disappointed. I thought they'd been doing a pretty decent job, but honestly I wouldn't be watching this if I hadn't read the books, and I'm definitely starting to lose interest.

I disagree with your last point. IMO Dany's stuff was boring when she pretty much just hung out at Qarth. They're trying to spice it up a bit, and it seems like this is gonna actually provide some impetus towards visiting the warlocks. However, her standard "take mine, blood fire, raaar" acting is getting sort of boring and I'm beginning to remember why I didn't care for her that much in the books.
edit: wasn't clear who I was responding to, added quote.

Ser Barristan the bold was an interesting element that helped flesh out the Sansa character, but he is not really needed in the tv shows. In the end he wasn't that important anyway. I feel her later interactions with littlefinger are much more interesting and they can make much better use of time by focusing on them. It is not like Sansa is relevant until then anyway. EDIT: I completely misremembered who ser barristan was. Sorry.
However I don't like how they are deviating with the dany and bran storylines. Without Reek and Osha (that was his sister's name right?) it seems like Bran and the viewers will very suddenly have to come to terms with his "powers". In the books it was clearly suggested over a long period that he may be special and have some powers, and it took a long time for him to come to terms with it. If he just suddenly can control Hodor and Summer, then it will seem like a Deus ex Machina and wholly uneccessary except for the purposes of following the books.
With regards to Dany, I don't mind changing her storyline as it is quite isolated from the others at this point, but I hope they don't choose to skip the part about the slavers. I felt it was instrumental in developing Dany. Thinking more about it I guess that they could take an alternative route, but I really hope they don't botch it. Dany is not just a small sidestory. She is important and if she don't get the chance to develop as a character to someone a bit more pragmatic, then I will be sad.

If they wanted to spice her storyline up, they simply could have shortened her screentime. In books 2-3 she had less chapters then the other main characters and for good reason too. But HBO seems to think she needs to be in every episode, always doing something or another.

Ser Barristan becomes Dany's right-hand man in A Dance With Dragons, he's a pretty important character.

she's the hottest female protagonist in the series well tied with sansa and she's the one with the dragons so of course HBO is going to want her on screen as much as possible

well, the warlocks stealing her dragons is also an excuse for her to say im done with qarth im getting out when she gets her dragons back, instead of being frustrated with making no progress and leaving like in the books.
