basically, if its anything you cant ignore enough to finish the game for, it takes precedence over your ladder loss anyways

If the guy just pauses it without saying anything, I'll tell him I'm giving him 30 seconds and then I unpause it. If he tells me he needs to pause, I tell him I'm going to give him 3 minutes and then I'm going to unpause it. Anything more than 3 minutes, and you're not being reasonable and you should just leave. I've only had someone who had an issue with me pausing it once. I always say, "Mind if I pause a second?" and if they ask I explain. Maybe you should stick to customs when you're at a time when it's really likely you'll end up pausing and ladder when you're free for sure.

Usually it's just a small thing and I need a pause for 10-60s. But some people just turbo-unpause whenever you pause. Obviously this is an autolose for you, not very fun, and really just sort of sad. Sometimes when I say something about it, they call ME bad mannered for pausing. Then leave from game and start a new one, when you solve all problems. Why players must lose their fun from game, because other had some problems? But I have one rule. Player must explain reason, why he paused. After 10 seconds if there are no reason in chat, I unpause.

If you have the option after the "pp" and pressing pause, just say how long it'll take (10sec,1min,3min,...). I bet you will have far less people unpausing immedatly.

If my opponent pauses the game I'd like him to write something quick about why. I usually only wait a minute or two then unpause it if he doesn't say anything.

As far as pausing during a big fight or at some other critical time, this is somewhat more debatable. Obviously, the same real life stuff that can happen during any part of the game so clarifying what is going on should always be a priority. Bottom line, pausing should only be used to resolve important issues so that it may be respected as such.

if you just pause and I dont' know the reason, I'll wait 5-10 seconds, and if still nothing I'm unpausing at least that's what I'd do ._.

That rings pretty fucking hallow considering you're playing SC2. It's not like someone is coming into your house and forcing you to idle while you're doing your taxes. If you have time to play SC2 waiting a minute or two is completely negligible during a ladder session.
