I believe, that pausing without saying ANYTHING is very BM and I am not above just unpausing after 5 seconds if they dont say anything

I had a game recently were someone just paused without saying anything. after 10 seconds i unpaused and he paused right back. obviously by now i thought he was just trying to be obnoxious and unpaused right there. If people dont take the time to explain there pause, why should i take the time to ask? I 've had to pause and i always say pp and afterwards briefly explain whats happening ( door/ phone/bathroom) nso that the other person at least has an explanation and some reason to wait. I have never had people unpause on me when I did that.

If the opponent gives reason (eg: 1 sec please) for pausing i don't unpasue.

U should allways explain why are u pausing the game cause pauses can be annoying.

I am sorry but you are the biggest dick if you unpause after someone asks for a second whatever the reason may be. I give you that if they pause and in like 15 sec dont say anything you have every right to unpause. If someone gives a brb or pp though that is all you need and i will give them a min or two.

This is just me but if I during a game get interrupted by just about anything mildly important I'll just leave right away. That way there's nothing to be frustrated about and it's not like an extra win or loss in the statistics is of any importance. I just play for practice and realize that I'll never get into GM league so there's little point in caring.

Granted, since I'm putting an abrupt end to a match without a word it could be considered BM to some. But since most people rather get a free win than a good game I haven't gotten much smack for it. To be honest, I never say a word while playing, not even gg or gl hf, and I've never been called out on it.

If people BM me at any point in the game I won't ever pause and just continue.
When someone pauses without saying something I will first ask him what's up, if he doesn't respond I unpause in like 20-30 secs.
If someone just says he needs a quick pause its np at all.

Uh, well this only happens in teamgames as far as i've experienced. In 1v1 they always let me pause, unless I killed like 2 scvs with a probe or something, then they might unpause

People seem really BM about this, why would you unpause? Even if he doesnt give a reason i'll give him 5 mins to sort things out, how is it a big deal? Just alt tab and do something else for a few mins.

Sometimes i have to pause as well where i dont have time to give a reason. Spilled something or keyboard not working etc. If i have time i'll say "sorry brb 30 secs" or something like that, but sometimes i dont have time or i cant write anything before pausing.

I cant see how it's BM to pause as long as you apologize for it. Yea if you just pause/unpause without saying anything it's pretty BM. But there are a lot of reason why you couldnt write anything before pausing. I mean it's just a game, there is no need to be all upright about it.

If someone says "hey wait!" when you're playing football or whatever, do you just go "nope! didnt give a reason!" and just continue on? No, you wait and see what's up.

I honestly cant see how 5mins of your day can be such a big deal, especially not when you can just alt-tab to TL or whatever.

To me if someone gives pp with no further reason i will wait a maximum of 2 minutes.
pp + reason given (or just a reason given) and i'll be willing to give them up to 10 minutes.
A random pause during a game with no pp, and no reason and i'll unpause it in 30 seconds (of course i attempt to communicate with the player in this period)

On the off chance that i will need to pause I usually pp, pause, then give the reason. I think it's just bm to pause without saying anything, because you aren't even acknowledging the other players existence.

When I need a pause I will pause and then explain my situation, most of the time they are kind enough to wait a while.

As long as it isn't a ridiculously long pause, I will normally wait for my opp - if he has explained the situation. Pausing without saying anything, is pretty stupid (only reason i can see that being acceptable is if your keyboard stopped working)

If they have been incredibly bm i may unpause, though i've never had a situation like that

My rules for allowing pauses:

1. Explain your situation

2. Let me know if you will need an extended period of time (i.e. more than 2 minutes)

No explanation = I wait 30 seconds, then prompt if you're ready. I'll wait another 15 seconds and if I get no reply, I'll unpause.

If you give an explanation, I'll wait 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, I'll prompt to see if you need more time. No reply = unpause. I have better things to do with my time than sit around twiddling my thumbs while you pay the Domino's delivery guy.

I'll wait as long as needed if you give me a detailed explanation of why you're pausing and how long you'll need the pause. The information will allow me to alt-tab and do other things while I wait, like checking email, Twitter, etc. which is only fair.

The above, of course, applies to ladder games. I'll just leave in customs with randoms when they pause, and wait as long as needed with people I know.

I usually set aside time to play starcraft 2 when I know that I won't be having any distractions. If somebody pauses, and gives reason, I have no issues waiting for them, since I can just do stuff on my second monitor while I wait.

I just don't understand the mindset of people who instantly unpause the game. It's just plain rude and there is no excuse for it. Give the other person a chance to explain themselves. As others have mentioned, unpausing and playing while the other person is AFK defeats the purpose of the game and is no challenge. If they do pause without giving a reason, and I get no response back from them when I ask why they paused it, I will unpause the game happily, but I will at least give them a chance to explain themselves.

I always ask first and they usually allow it, but in the end, it's their time too. If they don't want to spend a minute of their possibly scarce ladder time waiting for you and you have something more important than the game, they have every right to turbo-unpause. Just ask before pausing and resuming, and try to avoid laddering when you know distractions will be happening.

The other day my mouse just failed mid game and I was like 'pp need to run upstairs get another mouse' and paused. And the guy was like 'lol no' and unpaused. I paused again, unpause.

So I sat down. I unplugged my broken mouse. And I said 'Son...I'm going to beat you with a laptop track pad.'

10 minutes. TvP. Track pad. Victory.

I've found as I started playing better people they would be more mannered about asking for pauses and about not unpausing when I ask to pause. I haven't had a bad experience with a high diamond or masters player yet, but people low diamond high plat just seem more bm in general.
