I probably would have bought a DAS, but shiny finish on keyboards is suuuuuch a dumb design choice. I'd rather sacrifice the extra features than have a keyboard I need to wipe down every day.

I don't see how you couldn't get it regularly smudged. I mean, it's on your desk, and, if you're using a keyboard like this, it stands to reason that that's a place you're going to be a lot (never mind the perfect typing posture needed so that no part of your hands ever touches the edges). Every review I've read of it mentions that it gets smudged insanely fast and that it practically requires regular wipe-downs to continue looking nice. When you're talking purely about practicality it's something you have to take into consideration. There's a reason why the Filcos are so popular -- beyond the progamers using them -- without having all of the fancy, space-age designs and bells and whistles. However, with the lack of Filcos, there's a chance I would be considering one of them if they had a Tenkeyless (especially if it kept the extra USB ports).

The only option I've got right now is the Das Ultimate but I'd prefer a matte black design with a less ostentatious look. No need for bright LEDs either. Also, any opinions from people who have tried both the brown and black switches would be appreciated. FPS gaming and RTS.

You can read about it on this thread at geekhack.org. First, I doubt he'll see it, but I would like to give a massive thanks to sixty here, as I am not a GeekHack member and am a lurker rather than contributor. This review is great, and is the perfect mix of depth and succinctness. I highly encourage you to read it, but I shall give you the salient facts. Here is what, undoubtedly, you guys are looking for from that wonderful review: The Leopold FC200R is a very solid and well designed keyboard. There is no doubt that it can keep up with the Filco. The few clever differences such as the improved stabilizers or the removable cable might even make it more desirable to some. Those of you who were afraid that Elitekeyboards would not be selling “elite” keyboards anymore should not worry too much. This is a very worthy replacement and will not disappoint new buyers and maybe even a few Filco fans. The Elitekeyboards newsletter already hinted that these would be priced at a more competitive value which is a definite plus too! According to the Elitekeyboards newsletter, the keyboard is currently scheduled for January or February 2011. I must say, this really assuaged my fears. Basically, for the price of one inch more of width, we get an improved Filco (nothing major, but improved nonetheless) for cheaper (which is what I love the most)! Another thing that some people might like is that, inferring from sixty's wording, the LEDs are not as bright as on the original Filco (sixty says "medium-bright grade" but also mentions something about people not liking bright LEDs, so I take from all that that he is talking about LEDs as a general complaint -- someone please tell me if you know differently, since I actually care about this part of the board for night gaming/paper writing). Overall, I think I shall remain optimistic. P.S. For another tip of my hat, I'd like to thank Fwiffo, who seems to be a continual font of knowledge in all the equipment threads I have the pleasure to talk to him in. Continue on, good sir! Edit: ripster, who I consider to be the Almighty Guru of GeekHack from my modest amount of lurking, has noted that the current conversion rate from won to dollar on these keyboards shows a price of $115. Considering this is a tenkeyless with NKRO and the Filco one like this went for $132, I'm thinking that we're not going to see too much savings unless some miracle happens. Also, build quality is being lauded for this, with emphasis on the better keycaps (than both Ducky and Filco, which the people here are talking about most) and how the keyboard is, like the Filco, very heavy and durable.

i looked at the das keyboards before i bought the filco. i like the shape and appearance of the filco better. and that is horrible placement of usb ports. i would never use them because im right handed and my mouse goes to the right of the keyboard right there... so for me, the das doesnt even have usb ports!

Apparently the Leopold is significantly better, with everything from soldering and the overall board to key spacing, straightness and overall layout being better than the Filco. On top of the, apparently, outstanding keycaps, everything adds up to make it look like the Leopold is a solid choice and something you should wait for instead of going the Filco/PCHome route. TL;DR: GeekHack says the Leopold is the coming of the Keyboard Messiah. Wait for it because it's awesome.

One of the things I really like about the Leopold is that they give you the logo as a separate sticker thing so that you can go brandless with your keyboard if you want. Sexy.

I hadn't exactly considered that. But usually there is enoughs pace for a usb cord to be curled back behind the keyboard. At least at the distance my hands are when I play. Also, usb drives would definitely be in the way but I don't need to have them plugged in while gaming. The das is the top contender for me atm. Which did you get from PCHome? Did you just use google translator or is there an english version of the site? And I wouldn't hype up the leopold that much, to say it's the keyboard messiah. It looks to be almost exactly the same as the Filco. And there has been hype over it but it's not close to perfect. The feel of the plastic, to how it wears down and gets shiny, and the too bright LEDs, and lack of usb/audio features makes it good but not great. And wasn't it already uncovered that the keyboard fruitdealer used was not a majestouch but an older filco with different switches anyway?
