Sometimes stuff like this happens but, there's not much you can do unless you want to move to a safer city. Just give them what they want and don't walk around with $700 in your pockets lol.

also, you're not really in "shock". shock is when your blood pressure drops rapidly and your tissues can't be perfused. at most this is an acute stress event. but yeah, i don't think it's fair to say what you did was stupid, especially in the circumstances. it's always easier to say that you'd act some way rather than actually do it.

Tips: Don't walk alone if possible. Keep your hands in your pockets. Carry a weapon, even a pocket knife is enough most times. Walk fast and hard. Don't ever stop for anyone, just walk harder.

Yup korean. i think one of the reasons why they chose me was because i was wearing a nice dress shirt. I go to class right after my work. Good tips though some of them i didn't even think of.I live in Torrance which is completely opposite of ghetto.

I called the cops and they called me in 2 separate times to try and look at some pictures to see if I could ID the person but I never once saw a picture of the guy that took my money. Walking alone especially after dark is not safe to do in some areas.

These cities are ridiculously safe (okay maybe not so much Gardena) but since you're including both cities I'm assuming you're on the border of the two. Yea i live pretty deep in Torrance where even thievery is unheard of so i never really expected to get mugged especially when its at the border of Torrance and Gardena.

Wouldn't exactly feel safe walking around Gardena at night though. I've lived in the South Bay almost my entire life too where crime is seriously almost nonexistent. Only happens like every couple of years or so. I knew Gardena was somewhat ghetto but i never expected it to be this bad considering i was mugged literally at the entrance of Gardena not even deep inside where it really is dangerous.

Also I don't know what specifically you're wearing, but especially in winter there's no reason to go walking around flashing your tie and suit if you have a scruffy overcoat or parka to wear over it. Best wishes. May you not face these troubles again.

Anyway OP you've just reminded me that I'm definitely going to buy a gun when I turn of age and learn how to use it well, and maybe even think of getting a license to carry it with me.

They're actually not that expensive, and it's merely your opinion that it's bad to have a gun on you for self defense. I try not to carry so much cash that if I have to hand my wallet over I won't feel too badly about it. I'd rather go home minus my wallet than to end up with a knife in my ribs, a hollowpoint in my gut, or just generally getting the shit kicked out of me because I decide to put my pride over surviving.... Anyway, we all know fighting criminals 1v4 for your wallet is a retarded idea, no matter what weapon you are carrying. If you want to feel safer in a good way I would seriously say learn some Parkour! There are a ton of great community sites where you can meet up with local groups in your area. I did, and its super fun, a ridiculously good workout, and makes me feel far safer in pretty much any circumstance. Once you have a good wallrun and a few smooth vaults, good fucking luck to anyone trying to catch you.
