It would probably be a good idea to only park at your school and at home. Walking around alone is always a little risky.

I've been parking there to save up money as it was only 5 minutes away from school. But i've definately learned my lesson. I'm heading out to buy a parking permit. No point in trying to save a little money while risking my life.

Interesting...4 black males in Korea. I know that VERY FEW, black people live in Korea. Hmm, theres a company that makes masks that look real. I wonder if they could be wearing the mask.

I have never been robbed but these things do happen. There was little that you could have done in that situation. I commend you for your courage. If I was in that situation, I would have forked over my MP3 and try to reason them to keep my paycheck since it would be useless for them.

Thanks kinda too paranoid/pessimistic no?
Things unfortunately happen, but you still have jobs/school/things to do and there are always going to be people that have similar agendas as you. I live in like the center of Toronto and it's just a fact of life.

Btw NokCha forget my comment about the switchblade thing it's illegal -_-;

Fortunately you never ever get mugged in Korea (unless you're like 12, which is stupid because your wallet has like $3)
I guess that's the high point of being in Korea, you never get mugged

Same thing happened to my friend (who is disabled). Three hispanics jumped him, took his Ipod, and money, and gave him a black eye. Not much he could do. But, good thing you didn't get severely injured, those areas near Compton are pretty bad.

I don't know. I live in a 50% suburban 50% rural farmland area.

I figure since he is walking to school he could probably eliminate that risk by parking at school.

Sorry to hear that you got mugged, that sounds quite scary. To protect yourself, you don't really need a gun, they're quite expensive and it's bad to have one on you. A surprise stab can be quite effective. You can nullify certain muscles by puncturing nerves, or you can be less merciful and puncture an artery.

A kubaton would probably be a better idea then having hidden needles on you.

I would recommend taking a simple self defense course and keeping kubaton on your key chain, or something. I've been doing martial arts for as long as I can remember and I can say you'd be surprised how much information and confidence you can get a simple 2 hour crash course in self defense.

Man... that sounds horrible. The worst thing they did to me was try to choke me out and kick my face in. My college has had handfuls of rapings and muggings but i almost never hear about those cases being solved.

You did fine, man. I don't think you acted stupidly at all. You were in a dangerous situation, and you made a run for it. That's been keeping us and our ancestors alive since the Pleistocene.

And you survived without (it appears) serious injury. So that's a plus, too. I know the lost valuables and living expenses are a real problem, but look on the bright side: you just got jumped by four dudes and you're still in one piece enough to post about it on TL.

So yeah, man, don't judge yourself too harshly, and don't let something cruel like this embitter you against life or humanity. You were resilient enough to walk away from the mugging. Be resilient enough to pick yourself up, learn what lessons you think apply, and then brush that shit off.
If it were not so, I would have told you.

Yep, had a similar experience---in my case I didn't get to decide whether or not I should fight back, I just got tackled from behind and another guy came up and punched me in the face... I woke up on the ground. Fortunately I only had 7 dollars in my wallet.

My thoughts: It's probably pretty normal to be shaken up. You'll get over it eventually, so don't feel bad if it takes some time. And don't worry too much about whether you made the right decisions at the time. Your experience is going to screw with your head enough, you don't need to add to it.

That's a relief dude, I would never imagine something happening like that where we live. But then again some dude came into our house when we accidentally had the garage opened and stole my mom's purse D: Stay safe and definitely get a parking permit. Not worth getting jumped..

Self-defense classes won't do shit against 4 muggers. You're just going to get yourself killed while trying to resist. I've got a decade of experience, and I wouldn't even imagine trying to resist four guys since at least one of 'em could be armed.

I used to have to walk through a sketchy neighborhood, so I took a couple of preemptive measures that are a bit more passive. I never carried more than 40bucks on me, and I also bought a gray beanie and a used jacket at Goodwill (going for the "not worth mugging" image) to wear when walking through the area. I also never wore my headphones during that walk. Needless to say that during the entire year, I didn't get mugged once.

Edit: Oh yeah. It's great that you're okay!
