This, kubaton + switchblade or karambit.
It's not BAD to have a gun on you. It's bad to have one on you and not know how to properly use it. IE. Have not taken a weapon retention class, or shoot quals, etc. Because if you don't and you actually shoot somebody, you're gonna have to fight it out in court.

Hm I think other countries have it worse haha
But yeah sorry for the incident :<
I hope I don't ever get robbed... Better not wander around Baltimore ehehe (not that I do)

Well Compton is notorious of crime, shouldnt be surprised.
In my freshmen years in high school Ive seen a student get mugged in front of my face, they didnt rob me since I looked like a nerdy Chinese kid with nothing. Though later I was confronted during my senior years, it was a Hispanic kid that asked me for "a dollar" on the street when I was going home... we glared at each other(I said why or something like I dont have anything, the kid looked like a wannabe hipster/gangster) but after his friend caught up with him and pulled him away, we parted. That was about it, nothing serious. I think it had to do with the fact that he picked the worst place to rob someone since it was 2 blocks away from a relatively busy intersection and in board daylight. I live in NYC.
Since I never had such a extreme experience yet, so my mentality of it is unclear. Most of us think we could go all Jet Li on their asses, maybe but it will only delay the process.

In that situation its only self-defense, I mean if you do carry one because concealed weapons are pretty popular here and its allowed... well in most states(CCW). You would be responsible with it.

I don't think any of them were strong. The one choking me out wasn't properly doing it to the point where i could still breathe but with slight uncomfort. The other 3 were punching me but my body doesn't hurt at all even the kick to my face doesn't sting all that much(maybe due to shock, i think i might feel it in the morning). Now that i think about it i think some of them were doing this for the first time. It was extremely messy overall...which i'm glad it was. I'm pretty sure self defense is not the best solution to this kind of situation. I've seen it in movies but after encountering the actual thing its so much more different. The pressure of 4 males surrounding you is just way too overwhelming.
I've taken martial arts classes in the past but nothing they taught there prepared me to fight against 4 males regardless of their build/age/race. If i did fight against them i think i would've been brutally beaten to death or near that point. A part of me thinks if i just let them have my wallet and they tried to use my credit card then they could track them down and catch them..
Thank you all for your support. I do feel alot better now. I tried calling some of my best friends but they weren't picking up so i figured i'd head towards TL for some support

A surprise stab can be quite effective. You can nullify certain muscles by puncturing nerves, or you can be less merciful and puncture an artery. A kubaton would probably be a better idea then having hidden needles on you. I would recommend taking a simple self defense course and keeping kubaton on your key chain, or something. I've been doing martial arts for as long as I can remember and I can say you'd be surprised how much information and confidence you can get a simple 2 hour crash course in self defense. Self-defense classes won't do shit against 4 muggers. You're just going to get yourself killed while trying to resist. I've got a decade of experience, and I wouldn't even imagine trying to resist four guys since at least one of 'em could be armed.
Sorry if my post was a little miss-leading. I did not mean it would be a good idea to fight back in that situation, just meant it may be wise to have some sort of self defense knowledge. Also, most self defense courses focus a lot on making good decisions in stressful situations, such as the one the OP descried. It's not just fighting.
Great to hear your ok NokCha .

I seriously doubt you actually fought back against 4 guys in a car...
If you did, don't do it again.

I commend you for your courage. Well done.
Dangerous, but I would just cowered and gotten robbed.

I didn't necessarily fight back full on. I tried to fight back by pushing them back and elbowing kicking them away out of self defense and fear. I had no intention of hurting them. All i wanted to do was run away safely. But you are right. I've learned my lesson. No matter what i'm holding, nothing is worth risking my life over.

I actually got mugged a few years ago. Me + 3 other friends were walking through an empty mall parking lot on the way to the theatre when these two guys jumped us. It was a pretty dark/deserted area at 9 PM, so not like anyone would've seen it (Fairview mall in Toronto). One black guy, other was Filipino. We def. would've resisted but the black guy said he had a gun on him, so it wasn't worth the risk even if he was lying, you can never be sure. They made us empty our wallets, so all they got was a bunch of cash and subway passes which they then used to get away as they ran towards the subway station. Was kinda scary at the time, but it wasn't that bad and none of us got hurt.

To everyone suggesting getting a gun, that is a terrible idea. First of all, he's going to school and guns are definitely not allowed on campus. Second of all, he's not going to kill four guys for trying to mug him. If you end up using a gun as a scare tactic, there's a chance they see your bluff and have a gun of their own and shoot you. If you actually just shoot them, killing someone can be a lot more troubling than just getting mugged. Honestly, you should just empty your pockets and run. Your life is infinitely more valuable than a couple of your belongings. Don't do any self-defense nonsense either. Best-case scenario you end up saving a couple hundred bucks but you had to spend money on self-defense classes anyways. Worst-case scenario the four guys stomp you into the ground and leave you for dead. You don't have to be an expert on game theory to see which outcome is the best for both parties.
I really wish you the best of luck. Getting mugged is a terrible experience and I hope you feel better.

So when they told you to give them your shit they were out of the car? If they were in the car when they said it I would've ran.

Yes first one of them approached me and told me to empty my pockets then the other 3 joined in when they realized i wasn't going to give in. Their car was still parked and running about 10 feet away

Theres been plenty rapings and muggings around here but i never thought it would happen to me. lol, that's not a good area at all. You should definitely get something like pepper spray.

James sup it's ON_FIER
That sucks man, I wouldn't worry about it. It makes me angry to think about all the times people have beaten me up and stolen things from me but then I think about the times I beat people's asses when they talked shit and I kinda think it's better that you didn't actually hurt or kill them. Glad to hear you're okay, don't let them get to you.

I go to a community college in the LA area near compton.
why does it say South Korea in your location?
BTW, I live near that area. Well I live in the OC!!!! Yea, alot of stuff happens in the US. My sis got her bike robbed. When the economy goes down, crime rates goes up.

Thank you for the support man i'm still a little shaken up by it and i gotta admit i think i've become a little paranoid about driving out in the dark alone.
