I was on my way to class and got attacked and robbed in a residential area near my school. A old red toyota with 4 black males drove up to me and they came out and said "empty your pockets man". I told them "You don't want to do this" then i tried to run. One of them caught me and started punching my liver and my back while the others were tugging/ripping my shirt and grabbing for my pockets. I resisted and tried fought back but that didn't really help. I struggled towards an open street and thankfully a car passed by but ironically didn't hesitate nor even jerk slightly to help, it just drove by while i was struggling with 4 black males and reaching out to them for help(bystander effect :[).
My wallet had about $400 in paychecks because i received them yesterday and a $300 mp3 player(cowon j3) in my hand and thankfully they didn't succeed in stealing those. What they did steal was my Klipsch Image S4 earphones but they ripped it in the process of grabbing it from me. One of them dropped his phone and when i reached for it, one of the other guys kicked my face in before running to their car and driving off.
Called 911 right after and the police came and interviewed me asking me for a clear description. I could barely remember what they looked like as it all happened too fast. I overheard one of them saying that if they drove to a certain direction there would be no way of catching them..
Have any of you guys been mugged? I'm still shaken up from the entire experience and i honestly think i would have died or been brutally beat if that single car did not pass by. I'm dissapointed that i fought back because i still don't know if any of them wielded a weapon and if that car wasn't there i would certainly been in big trouble if i continued to resist/fight back.

My 2s partner was mugged about two years ago by 4 black kids as well. I don't think any were over the age of 18. He was about to step out of his car and they snatched the door open and held a gun to his head. They took everything of value from his house, but got caught about 15 min after they left. They only thing they didnt recover was his wallet. He is now a proud gun enthusiast, and I feel sorry for the next group of thugs that try to rob him, because won't be as lucky I'm afraid.

sorry to hear it, you should probably invest in pepper spray

What city was this?
My university campus is in the downtown core and every other day the campus police chief sends out an email recapping some event (robbery, break-in, etc.) that happened on campus...

Or what the guy above said, invest in a gun >__<

Almost all 4 of the people were younger than me. I'm 22 and i'm pretty sure 3 of them were around 17-20 while one looked 20-25. This was in the city of Torrance/Gardena. About 20 minutes away from compton. Theres been plenty rapings and muggings around here but i never thought it would happen to me.

Well one it would be stupid to fight back and i don't see how i gun will help you in either situation. Your life is infinitely more important than what you had in your pockets so let it go. Don't cry imba about life just take this as a lesson so next time you wont travel in the wrong area alone.

run to the nearest door and slam the door with your fist while shouting "Danny open up the door and bring your shotgun."

Hi Green Tea -_-
Fuck man you should've booked it asap to a nearby house or something. Like you said, never fight back especially if it's 1v4 and they coulda been armed too. You too crazy~
Did they just get away with your IEMs?
It's not too bad since you still got your J3 + money... with the 4 bills you can get SE535s/IE8s/X10s/ or pretty much any top tier universal as a replacement.
How did you even hear them though with your earphones on? -_-

I'm not crying about it or anything. I'm still shaken up because like you stated i knew it was stupid of me to fight back considering if they had weapons(which i still don't know if they did) and the fight continued on i would be seriously hurt. The area i was in was NOT dark or narrow. It was a very open residential community so i honestly didn't expect a mugging of any sort. I've been parking at this location for almost 3 years with no trouble.
I'm just asking to see if anyone else experienced something similar.

I did attempt to run but one of them caught me and wrestled me down while the others attacked me. They drove up next to me glaring at me and i thought they were asking for directions so i took off my earphones and the first thing they said was "empty your pockets man, you know what were talking about". Everytime i kept saying "Don't do this, don't do this" and they kept saying "shut the fuck up and give us your stuff".
They grabbed my iems so hard that one of the buds completely ripped off. I wasn't intending on spending any of the money in my wallet as its meant for living expenses and without it i'd be pretty much royally screwed.
I'm a little dissapointed and frustrated that the car didn't even jerk slightly when i saw both the driver and passenger's face looking at me getting jumped by 4 black guys.

Sorry to hear that you got mugged, that sounds quite scary. To protect yourself, you don't really need a gun, they're quite expensive and it's bad to have one on you. What you can do is keep needles hidden in various parts of your clothing (ie, embedded in your belt loop, sticking in your wallet, etc), and then learn how to fight using needles. A surprise stab can be quite effective. You can nullify certain muscles by puncturing nerves, or you can be less merciful and puncture an artery.

I don't wanna offend anybody but were you being serious? I mean I can see it happening in a Jet Lee movie or somebody with some knowledge of acupuncture, but I would still get my ass kicked even if I got some good stabs in.
IMHO I'd just fucking run to a nearby house or jump through fences or something. If I felt I needed to arm myself, maybe a standard switchblade? But still if it's a 1v4... no chance of winning the fight -_-

My apologies i just wanted to get this out rather than bottle it up. I'm just looking to relate.

Damn that sucks I would feel the same if a car didn't stop to help. Were they like women/elderly or just like two guys?
At the very least they coulda stopped and knocked on a person's door for help.
Sucks about your IEMs ... but try to stay positive be thankful you're still okay + J3 + money for living expenses. ^^;

Anyways I applaud to your courage, I would've dropped down and just given everything I had. Things like these just happen I guess. I've never been mugged in my life so I really can't give you any advice (sorry ) But there is one TL Staff member who beat the shit out of the people who tried to mug him. Hopefully he will read this thread and help you out what to do on those situations and etc (not saying you should go jackie chan whenever some wants your stuff)
I still don't know what went over my mind. I completely admit what i did was absolutely retarded but when they were heading towards me i was terrified as hell and when i tried to run my legs felt like jello and i only got about 20 feet near an open road. The only thing i could think about was hoping to struggle long enough until someone saw and scared them off. I guess its too hard to think straight when under pressure.

Two Caucasian middle aged men. The sad part is they didn't call 911 either. When i asked the police officer if anyone else reported a mugging they said i was the only one.

I'd never live in a city simply because of the amount of trash human beings that exist there.
It would probably be a good idea to only park at your school and at home. Walking around alone is always a little risky.

Anyway, we all know fighting criminals 1v4 for your wallet is a retarded idea, no matter what weapon you are carrying.
If you want to feel safer in a good way I would seriously say learn some Parkour! There are a ton of great community sites where you can meet up with local groups in your area. I did, and its super fun, a ridiculously good workout, and makes me feel far safer in pretty much any circumstance.
Once you have a good wallrun and a few smooth vaults, good fucking luck to anyone trying to catch you.
