So seeing as other TL threads lead to great musical findings in the past, I figured I'd see if any other people on here enjoy the epic musical yarn as much as I do.
Power Metal is a genre of music that fuses an ironic combination of classical orchestral music and heavy/speed meta, characterized by suicidal speeds, bombastic sounds, cheesy lyrics and extremely long, extremely pretentious guitar solos.
And that's precisely why I like it. It's refreshing in todays music world to find a subgenre of music that still takes itself just a little bit too seriously.
Most people when I tell them that I listen to power metal, they most often relate it to Dragonforce, and while Dragonforce is certainly power metal, in a genre that is notorious for sounding exactly the same, sounding exactly the same to even an experienced listener to myself is (in my opinion) intrinsically bad.
I think finding good power metal, much like my experience with electronic music, takes a good bit of luck, and a large helping of personal taste.
So here's what I'm listening to ATM.
Sorry I tried searching, but it's hard finding high quality videos on youtube of lesser known bands/older songs
If you're looking for cheesy pretentious lyrics, Rhapsody of Fire does it best, but I love them because they find a perfect way to balance classical sounds and modern guitar solos.
My favourite genre. I've been listening to almost nothing but Terasbetoni and Nightwish over and over again for the past 4 years <3 <3 also some Sonata Arctica.
I have a lot of other related music from these genres but I still love these two bands so much that I haven't and probably wont ever progress on to anything else haha :D
I always wanna watch a CS or WoW movie while listening to this kind of music. Back in 2002~ that's where i first discovered Nightwish, Hammerfall and Within Temptation. Awesome thread <3
I hope this thread doesn't get closed. Power metal is the best genre imo. As soon as i figure out how to post some kingdom for a heart, you'll get it >_<
Power Metal isn't called Power Metal because of orchestral music or whatnot, it's because of the rather impressive (usually high pitched) vocal performance.

You know I have to say I have been supremely dissapointed with their last two albums. BG was my fav band growing up pretty much and I keep giving them the benefit of the doubt, but I dont know if I will buy their next one.
