Speed of Light always starts playing in my head whenever anyone mentions them.looked through the past 3 pages, I know most of bands (so much Kamelot and Nightwish) and like most of em (except Dragonforce) but I woulda thought Stratovarius is more popular... they released a new album just recently Anyway, here's Pyramaze, they're badass. Their old singer was really good and now they have Matt Barlow from Iced Earth and it works really well.

My friend who is a big metal fan neverlets me forget that there are around 100 different versions of Metal, and he tries to show me the difference but I just don't here it. Can someone please explain to me how they have manage to generate that many versions, and why they feel the need to have so many? Metals been around for ages. Like almost any genre, people come up with different styles and evolutions and new bands come and copy them. I think it all becomes too convoluted at some point, but the same could be said for any genre labeling. IMO, It really doesn't matter and you should just enjoy the music for what it is.

As metals been evolving the genres are becoming less sharply defined, you might find alot of debate about what genre a band fits in. A death metal band may borrow elements from power metal and vice-versa: heres are the main genres, however there are many subgenres that branch off from there. Power Metal - Fantasy themes, high pitched vocals, high energy, glorious melodies eg; Blind Guardian, Wintersun, Dragonforce, Stratovarious, Demons and Wizards Black Metal - Monotonous blast beats, Screeching vocals, Satanic Themes, Corpse paint makeup eg; Mayhem, Burzum, Gorgoroth, Celtic Frost Death Metal - Heavy distortion, lots of palm muting, galloping riffs, Low gutteral vocals, Violent themes eg; Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Nile, Necrophagist All the subgenres like 'Viking metal, Blackened Death Metal, Doom Metal, Slam Death etc" all basically branch off from these 3 main genres. Sure ensiferum technically would be called viking metal or battle metal or some shit, but really its just power metal with a few death metal elements. It didnt fit perfectly into the power metal box so people just made up a new genre.

However, i don't see a real connection between power metal and "symphonic metal". Nightwish as it was posted does definatly have power metal roots, but there is some symphonic metal that is far deeper than most of the metal songs posted before. I'm pointing to the songs that try to escape modern song structures and get closer to experimental music. i'd like to post some videos without further commentating them (as it is my taste of music and i'm not here to diss anyone, lol) HAGGARD - Upon Fallen Autumn Leaves EPICA - Consign To Oblivion EPICA - Kingdom Of Heaven The last one is more of a doom/gothic metal band, but this song has classical influences (it's actually a musical excerpt wrapped with metal) so i'll post it anyways. DRACONIAN - On Sunday They Will Kill The World

I'll touch one some yet-unmentioned songs, all quite good imo: Edguy - Tears of a Mandrake Secret Sphere - From a Dream to a Nightmare Avantasia - The Seven Angels Edenbridge - Skyline's End Falconer - Catch the Shadows Freedom Call - Thunder God And perhaps more 'Progressive Metal' but still the same vein; Pagan's Mind - Into the Aftermath Redemption - Love Kills Us All / Life in One Day
