That might be good but metagame is always shifting and I feel a lot of the build orders in wikipedia are outdated, except the super standards.

I think easiest thing is just to add new build orders from our fellow guys making guides at the sc2 strategy forum. They are pretty neat.

Only thing that I could give feedback on with this is if it was possible to "add" more into it, when going into midgame etc. But perhaps making two guides for that is the solution so just swapping if you got high apm or time.

Pretty much this. I was toying with adding a parser for sc2builds or something, or even making a public db on appengine.

Also, having hotkeys for different builds is something I'd like to look at.

It will probably work in the latest Mono. Not so sure about the overlay though.

Could you somehow make the background be changeable? I would prefer mine pitch black rather than transparent grey. Otherwise good job

The grey is just while it's in unlocked mode. Double click it and everything but the text becomes invisible.

I don't think it's a question of cheating or not. Since it doesn't interact with the game, it's akin to having a written build order list on a notebook next to your computer.

However, I do think it's bad practice. Do you think you'll see this on top pros' computers when they compete in matches? They wouldn't need it. That's because they have all their build orders memorized by heart. If you have to look at an overlay, no matter how convenient, you're dumping precious attention into something other than the actual game. You may say, "I'll just use it until I do have it memorized," but I see this more of a crutch than an actual learning tool. I can imagine how easy it would be to become dependent on this to know what to do next.

That's why I prefer Yabot. With the -o setting, it forces you to remember what to do next, and then it gives you feedback so that you're actually learning (and not just following directions). After a couple hours of this, I have it memorized very well and am ready to go into multiplayer without needing any third-party help.

I see it this way... BOs list consists of two branches "My BOs" and "Build-in BOs". User edits "My BOs". At any given time he can press the [Import build-in] button and the program imports the BO library from a text file hosted anywhere (or in program autostart).

All further reduces the formation of this file. Community responsibility, so to speak. =) And news about it "removed BO1... added BO1...".

I think the program should be extremely simple. Adding complex mechanisms would make it uncomfortable.

Eh, personally I've already found it useful. Build orders aren't especially hard to memorize so I don't feel the need to use any sophisticated method to learn them. Normally I'd just play a couple games against the computer with a notepad file open on my second monitor, then practice it a few more times without the notepad file open and this would be more than enough to learn the build. This tool just gives me a more convenient way of going through that process.

Very cool, gonna be handy to learn builds of all races. To echo what other people have said, it's obviously not cheating as it serves the function of a second monitor for those of us who haven't been blessed by two .

WIthout doubt this is one of the easiest ways to learn builds without having to take your eyes off your main screen. Thanks!

It looks like a neat tool. However I don't think it would be used all that much by a Zerg player. My only concern like others mentioned before was if it is against the Blizzard Entertainment Terms Of Service. Basically meaning that it is against the rules.

If an overlay is cheating (ignoring whatever is contained in the overlay), then all those streamers using logos/ads in their overlays are "cheating."

Given that the actual application of SC2 is not being affected in any way, and this duplicates various notebook, sticky note, or dual monitor setups, in a more "tech" solution; there is nothing wrong with it, and those opposing it as cheating are being fallacious.

overlay = cheating imo

its just the same as having it wrote down and stuck on your monitor, which am sure a lot people do anyway.

big difference between having a little sticky note on your monitor or a gigantic piece of paper stuck on, than an overlay that is directly within the monitor. It's not the same thing, so stop saying that it is. Also, can someone check if this is against blizzard rules? i love the tool but I believe it is against the user agreement.

It's exactly the same thing. How is it any different? If anything, this overlay gets in the way of the action on-screen, which makes it worse than having a piece of paper stuck to the side of your monitor.

(I love my, "LOOK HERE, MORON! BUILD MORE PYLONS!" sticky-note stuck to my monitor ♥)

then dont use it.

lmao dodger. The cellaphane thing MUST be cheating LOLOLOL.

Whoever says that this is cheating, prove it instead of saying "omgomgomgo it's against ToS". It's not like a build order alone wins the game.

@OP

I love this. This makes learning builds and applying them on ladder SOOO much easier.
